For those of you that like Texas Country, check out Kolton Moore. He's great. I think he's from the Weatherford area.
I have no clue how he never got big, but I discovered him a few years ago and he's now the favorite of everyone in my friend group that listens to Texas country. He hasn't done much in the last couple years but is supposed to start touring some again next year.

I can't be the only one. But, as a general rule (and there are some exceptions) I find most of the songs that mention Texas and Texas landmarks to generally be completely hacky and cheezy.
It sounds as bad to my ears as red solo cups, longnecks, trucks on back roads down to the river w/ chicks in jeans.

Completely agree. It's lazy songwriting if nothing else. Someone mentioned She's Like Texas earlier, and I'm sorry, but I find that song absolutely terrible.

Never been a fan of Josh Abbott, and don't get why he is so popular . Poor mans Randy Rogers at best.
Doesn't appear anyone has suggested Lyle Lovett. Klein Texas boy and Aggie who has done good. Just a few I like - including some covers I think are better than the originals

Love Eric Johnson! I'm seeing him in April!
He did lots of "mini lesson" videos on FB during the pandemic shutdowns and asked people to donate to their local food bank if they enjoyed the lesson.
He's also been on Rick Beato's YouTube channel a couple of times. Once for an interview in Rick's excellent music room, and again for providing an alternate solo for Stairway To Heaven (along with two other guitarists).

That video he does with the luthier from Fender is really good. The whole history of the Virginia Strat is cool. Nice story. And some of the things he does while playing the Strat really impressed the luthier. You know that luthier has heard plenty of great players working as a custom shop builder. Probably met some big names.
The smiles he makes while Eric is doing some licks and tricks kinda says it all.
