One of the most fascinating things of the last 6 or so years has been watching the posters that might have been right or left leaning but didn't wrap everything in politics change into these snowflakes that get offended with everything and have come to view the other side as the "other".

I am not sure if it is due to the average age of posters increasing and the natural conservative shift that happens with age or if the echo chamber aspect of this site has worked to radicalized them.

I feel this is a pretty biased and unfair take and tend to feel at first glance that your own beliefs might shade this view. I mean you accused people of looking at the other side as "other" and then immediately did the same yourself both before this comment and in the very next sentence.

I think the problem a lot of people have is how politics, particularly left-leaning politics, have become so intrusive and insidious. I'm not sure when everything became so completely intertwined but if anyone right of progressive has an opinion they are called "snowflakes" and "to watch something else". The problem is...what do you watch? Sports have become disgustingly political. You certainly can't watch anything out of Hollywood if you don't want to be preached to or condescended to.

I lean conservative for fiscal reasons but am pretty open on social issues until the point that you're telling me how to think or how I can speak. I would never want to watch sports or movies that preach incessantly about conservative values either. I want an escape and to be entertained, not preached to...by either side. There's already enough of that nonsense in the world as it is.

Literally at no point of my watch did politics nor religion creep into my mind. The series (and I'm assuming the book) seemed to make it an intentional point to zero in on the characters, their experiences, and their processing of a world-ending pandemic through the lens of their very personal relationships and coping mechanisms (IE, art, performance, etc).

At no point did is see where this series zoomed out to make a comment/judgement on society/politics/religion as a whole one way or the other.

Again, I literally thought about it or noticed it ZERO times. It was only until Boo's post where I was like 'WTF?' - that's a terrible way to approach entertainment content. Didn't even cross my mind that need to view things through a perspective they accept or else, but I guess it is what is these days.

Like someone else said, either watch it or don't.

Anyway, just finished. This was one of the best things I've ever watched. Not perfect, but still one of the best things I've ever watched.

The thing is, Boo just asked a simple question, then was called weird for asking it. So he came back and explained why he asked it, then was told "watch it or don't". It's unfortunate the politics has creeped so far into our entertainment, so I think the question was reasonable.

I am glad Station Eleven stayed away from politics. This is probably my favorite miniseries of the last 2 years.

Yeah no way can it be that Hollywood, entertainment and even sports has been more and more infused with one-sided politics over the years.

Finished this today. Was happy with the last 2 episodes but not sure I'm ready to proclaim this the best thing on TV. I saw nothing political or religious one way or the other.

I can't recommend this series enough. I'm probably going to buy the book as well.

It's easily in my top 10 ever and there's a case to be made that it might be top 5. Fascinating story, incredibly well acted, beautifully shot.

It's awesome.

Haven't read the book, but the show ended week enough that I don't really care for the idea of a sequel

Ordered it today. $11 after tax on Amazon. Haven't read fiction in years and I'm stoked.

If you find that you like Station Eleven... I recommend Justin Cronin's trilogy... The Passage, The Twelve, and The City of Mirrors.

Because that's what Station 11 needed, some vampires (and I've read all 3 - penned by a former Rice prof).

Or just stop at the Passage, which is a classic. I don't think the other two measure up, although he does stick the ending pretty well IMO.

Rewatched Episode one last night after finishing the series. Its amazing watching it with the knowledge you get from the end. Him catching the heart attack at the start plays way different now.

That was a confusing autocorrect because it worked both ways!

Giving it a few episodes is good advices. It's a bit of a slow build but man it's worth it. I liked it a lot more than I thought I would. Beautifully shot and scored and really great storytelling.

This is good to hear. I am 2 episodes in and giving serious thought to pulling the plug. I will give it a little more, I guess.
