I remember watching this wondering what the point of the show was basically up until the finale. The moment of them reconnecting is truly impactful (it got very dusty at that moment), but I'm not sure if it justified the other 7 hours of content. A show that I don't think I'd recommend, but would be excited to talk to someone about if they had seen it too.

If I recall they don't even reconnect in the book.

Agree with the previous poster that the show may have been better than the book, although I enjoyed both.

They don't even meet at all in the book, let alone reconnect. To me, that relationship is the heart of the series. The book just... Doesn't have it.

Strange but enjoyed it. Mostly the Jeevan/Kirsten story and especially episode 7. The rest was largely a potpourri of artsy fartsy strangeness, albeit well acted which helped save it. Kudos to the writer that converted it for tv because from what I've read about the novel, his creation of the Jeevan/Kirsten relationship made and saved this whole series

Btw, the "Doctor Eleven" score created by Dan Romer was awesome too. Really helped land the climax of ep 7 and the Hamlet scene in ep 10

Just binged this after finally paying for HBO Max. Kids have been begging to watch Tom and Jerry like at my parents house (weird I know).

One of the better book adaptations I've ever seen, truly loved the way they took the series ending as compared to the book. I love me some post apocalyptic media and this was down extremely well.

Young Kirsten, Frank, and Jeevan just nailed it. Fantastic character development. After reading this thread I get that this won't be for everyone. One of the slowest burns I've ever watched. Also one of the best series I've ever watched.

Finally watched this. Absolutely loved it. It started a lil slow for my taste but the payoff was worth it.

One thing I missed or maybe it was some metaphor over my simple minded head was why were Jeevan and Kirsten in blizzard like conditions for so long?

I don't remember much of a blizzard, just lots of snow on the ground. I think it was partly because they left the apartment in winter to walk across a frozen lake Michigan and partly to symbolize a "dead" world they were now living in.

The split in opinions on this one is pretty remarkable. It seems to be either really loved it or really hated it. This is about as divided of reviews as I can remember.

It's definitely the type of show where I can see this. I was actually somewhat down the middle. Some parts I loved mixed with some measure of WTF. I think the artsy-fartsy types really go for this kind of thing; whereas it is more likely to fall flat with the "just tell me a good coherent story" types
