So did anyone catch that Jeff's mom said he got tangled up with some bad people in ABQ? Sounds like that could come back into play.
I took it as explaining how he recognized Saul. Just some random loser so I think the story is done with him. That said, using Carol Burnett for this part does make me wonder if there us more to her role
I wish they never did black and white for the Gene timeline. They didn't do any B&W for BB flashbacks (just the for a few minutes here and there for season 2 teasers). Not sure why they chose to do so here. I was not a fan of watching the entire episode that way. I hope we don't have much more of that. It's not like this is Schindler's List or anything.
Gene has been a flashforward, not a flashback, not that comparison to anything done in Breaking Bad is relevant to their Gene scene choices anyway. I took it more as living as Gene, in a mall, not running any Slippin Jimmy scams, is a dull, drab, colorless experience for our protagonist.
Then yesterday's episode should have been in color. It was the first time in Omaha that he was doing Jimmy scams.
Correct. I think it was a little bit of them doing the "hey dummy" to ensure a casual fan understood there was a connection but may not remember the exact scene where it tied back to.

This is a good sumary of it. It's a stylistic choice. Seems like most have no problem with it, but I could understand not wanting to watch a black and white tv show. But they have established themselves as the kind of show that makes these decisions, just think of every cool/neat shot they have done. You either appreciate it or you dont.
So do I have the timeline somewhat correct? ... Walt dies on Sept 7, 2010. The tu/Nebraska game was about 5 weeks later.
(And the Gabe Bock "Meathead " moniker was born on Texags later in the season, after Brandon's camera was assaulted.)
When packing up his office and destroying evidence in March 2010, Saul tells Francesca to be ready for a call November 12th at 3PM. Said as in "that year". So Francesca to get called by someone on November 10th, 2010.
Username checks out.
Oh good lord, a typo. Corrected - and added a bit more I forgot to type.

Some people should stick to Transformers and Fast & Furious movies.

It would have been a cool (and maybe a little ham fisted) if they had Gene looking at the ring in black and white, cut to commercial, and then come back with him wearing it and the scenes being in full color.

It could also always be in black and white since he is living without Kim - but then you may counter with why aren't Breaking Bad Saul scenes in black and white (despite not yet even having a BCS show). The writers wouldn't be able to win with you, your preference is your preference. It's possible we understand it better in a future episode.

Ironic, since this board LOVED the Transformers movie and I hated it. (And I have never seen any F&F)

Saul and Walt get "disappeared" in March 2010.
When packing up his office and destroying evidence in March 2010, Saul tells Francesca to be ready for a call November 12th at 3PM. Said as in "that year". So Francesca to get called by someone on November 12th, 2010. November 12th 2010 was a Friday, that date wasn't their wedding anniversary or anniversary of scam leading to special tequila bottle, I couldn't find any significance to the date.
Gene and the security guard talk about Martinez's record freshman passing record in the Oklahoma State game that occurred Oct 23rd, 2010. So that is getting close to November 12th. Of course, no guarantees there aren't flash backs or flashforwards in next 3 episodes to fill time - that call might be in the final episode.
November 12th is Jimmy's birthday. They showed his license I think in the episode they get married and it shows his birthday as 11/12/1960. I think that will surely play in to the Gene timeline. I'm thinking it could be the one day a year Kim calls him, but also he tells Francesca "tell'em Jimmy sent you," which would not make sense if it is Kim since she is well aware of Francesca and her connection to Jimmy.
How about the message that BCS is over being that the intro video that has been increasingly deteriorating all season, finally died. That to me was absolute foreshadowing!!!
Missed that. Will have to go back and check it out.

Nice! That is correct, that is his birthday - great catch. He has no family to call him, Marco is dead, so I think it's fair to guess it would be Kim calling. Any ideas as to who else it could be? I'm not sure why Jimmy would plan to call someone ELSE on his own birthday, so I don't think it's Jimmy calling the number on November 12th. Having said THAT, it's common for people to call on a birthday but not at a specific time of day, so perhaps that alludes to the fact the call from Kim (or whoever) has to be clandestine and it's a pay phone or something similar being called? I know, I know - just be patient and watch.
I'm not sure who else it could be. It sets up a way for Kim to find out Jimmy is in Nebraska and ultimately lead to a reunion. For BCS though, that seems far too simple and straightforward.

1. Carol Burnett was gd brilliant. Outstanding work by her. Outstanding. Godspeed to that lady.
2. When the store manager called out the fake invoice number, the last digits were AE35. I'm wondering if this was a call out to the infamous AE-35 unit from Arthur C Clarks's, 2001.

I was aware that the opening sequence has been breaking down little by little with each season but must have fast forwarded over it last night. The perils of not watching live. Lol.

HG Wells's The TIme Machine shows up in his possession twice, so a sci fi fan perhaps?

I find it funny you feel the need to fast forward through a ten second opening theme.

Didn't really feel any need but the recording starts with the end of the previous show so I start fast forwarding and if it stops past the 10 second opening sequence I don't go back & rewind to watch it, especially when they usually don't change from one week to the next.
I rewatched the phone scene. It's from Season 4, Episode 5 "Quite A Ride"
Quote:
Saul: Okay, when the cops come talk to you - and they will - what are you gonna tell them?
Francesca: Talk to my attorney.
Saul: Yeah.
(SAUL DIGS A CARD OUT OF HIS WALLET AND HANDS IT TO FRANCESCA)
Tell them, uh, Jimmy sent you.
Okay. Where are you going to be on November 12th at 3 PM?
Francesca: I'll be there, but if it doesn't ring at 3 on the dot, I'm gone.
Saul: Don't worry. It's gonna ring.
Seems like the "Tell them Jimmy sent you" has more to do with the cops calling, Francesca calling a lawyer, and Saul telling Francesca to tell the name on the card that "Jimmy sent her" as opposed to being about the Nov 12 call.
We know that's not how the vacuum guy operates, and that's the only other card we've seen really featured.
Now I'm wondering if Saul handed Francesca a card for an attorney. We now know that HHM is gone, and the people there that knew him there are gone. I doubt Cliff Main would do Jimmy any favors. Maybe Kim moved away and got back into the law, and Saul he handed Francesca Kim's card. That's about the only name I can think of that would help a friend of Jimmy's.
My total guess (and I do not read reddit or twitter about this show, so this is 100% off the wall from my brain): Saul has Francesca makes contact with Kim as her "attorney." Saul calls Francesca on a payphone at 3PM on November 12, after Francesca has presumably made contact with Kim. Saul tells Francesca to tell Kim where he is hiding, thereby facilitating a Nebraska reunion.
If Saul and Walt got disappeared in 2010, Jimmy is coordinating a call on 11/12/10, and there are references in this episode that place us in Oct 2010, wouldn't Walt still be alive in NH on that timeline? And Jesse is imprisoned cooking for Todd/biker gang? If Walt/Jesse make an appearance in the Gene timeline, wondering how they pull the off? Maybe I have my timelines messed up.
Someone mentioned a couple pages back that Walt died in September of 2010 - how they know that or how accurate it is, I'm not sure. Walt was in New Hampshire while it was still cold and snowy so that had to be early 2010.

I believe Walt died in September 2010. Either way, I don't see any way they would show up in Omaha.

It was snowy when he left, though. I guess he could have been on the road for a while before the showdown at the compound. Seems like that would a long time, though.
