Why would Kim be in prison at this point?

Questioning this as well. As far as we know, she had nothing to do with any of his crimes.

So was this Gene's breaking bad moment at the end of the episode?

You didn't miss anything. He just a sleazy guy that buys the identity info from them.

I was hoping to catch some of Saul's audio in the booth in the rerun

I'm sure someone will find a way to decipher some of his conversation before the last 2 episodes

Did anyone watch with subtitles? I know at certain times in BB the captions would give you some info that wasn't audible with the audio, specifically when they were killing all of Mike's guys in prison.

I watch almost everything with subtitles. None of this was subtitled

Fantastic episode. Couldn't have asked for more.

So next episode opens with the phone call from Kim's perspective, is my guess. I just can't believe they'd leave us hanging on that conversation.

Whatever that conversation was was the reason he fully "broke bad" and flipped back into Slippin' Jimmy. Him going back to the cancer guy's house reminds me of S5 Walter White. Actually made me uncomfortable to watch.

Loved the flashbacks. Walt and Jesse bickering was perfect.

"He who must not be named" = Gus, right? I'm trying to think if Saul ever encountered Gus, but he didn't, right? I'm assuming Mike never tells him anything about Gus and just talks about "his employer".

If I had to guess (but maybe this is too obvious), camera guy that Gene fired is the reason they finally get him.

Also, of all the people I could've guessed to show up in this episode, Buzz from Home Alone wouldn't have been on that list.

I initially guessed the phone booth conversation (I assume we hear the audio in final 2 episodes) was pertaining to one of the following, in decreasing order of likelihood

1) Kim talked to him and said she had to tell the authorities about call
2) Kim talked to him but said she never wanted to see him
3) Whoever took the call wouldn't let him talk to Kim

But after thinking about it after episode, I think the most likely thing is someone told Saul she was swept up in the investigation and sent to jail.

All money, gone. Kim, in prison. Life boring and a mess. Nothing to lose.

And I was wondering how writing staff would handle an ending for Saul, it seems they love him as a character and they gave Jimmy so much depth throughout the series. But showing him having zero quit in stealing from a terminally ill guy, a guy who did not come across as an ******* at all, kinda tips the writers's hand I think.

What if he was told Kim is dead.

Maybe Gene was told that Kim is dead? I hope not. I really want to see her in his timeline.

Would have made him cry more than mad, but the reaction seen would be possible. I just don't think the show writers send her out like that.

Knowing what we know now, I'm surprised Mike works for Saul. Figured he would be making a killing being Gus head of security.

Also, the transitions in this episode were so spot-on.

Some more B&W scenes for the goobers on the thread. At least you got some color scenes.

Another fantastic episode. Didn't care for what AP was doing with that voice, but at least he dropped a "yo" for us. Didn't realize Kim was down in Florida! Seems like they had a lovely talk…

Liked the flashing back and forth. Is this Slippin Jimmy trying to save up enough to try and flee down to FL for Kim!?

Also- I got the bingo for not one but TWO Yacht Rock songs "Brandy" by Looking Glass and Summer Breeze during the karaoke scenes.

So what don't you get then? Why he's doing both? He's trying to earn money for Kaylee.

Like I said, with him being the head of security, I figured he would be too busy and making way more than enough money to not have to run errands for Saul.

Once the Salamancas were handled there wasn't a ton for him to do. We've seen how he has plenty of free time.

Not everybody is a Gilligan-fart-smelling- fanboy.

This episode did a great job of documenting Saul in the BB world, the transition after everything came crashing down, and setting up some possible endings to Gene's story.

We definitely needed last week's episode to set up this week, but that doesn't mean I needed a whole hour of an elaborate Slippin' Jimmy caper last week. They somehow managed to pull off this week's caper using only about a third of the airtime.

I thought the same.

Time is undefeated, but you'd think Aaron Paul could have made his voice sound closer to what it did back then.

What does everyone think Gene's drink of choice at home is? Looks like two bottles of clear liquid with lemon juice.

A well made episode, but just didn't land 100% for me. Lots of great pieces, but the sum was less than the whole of the parts. Trying to figure out why - maybe because Gene came off as Saul much so than Jimmy to me in that episode. Saul doesn't really garner much sympathy, whereas I find Jimmy a very sympathetic character. Of course Kim would tell him off in that phone call (that's what I think happened) after all those years of him living the lifestyle as Saul.

Was thinking about this too…..vodka and vermouth? Tequila/vodka with some kind of liqueur?

Well I've lost all sympathy for Gene here (was kind of feeling sorry for this awful lonely life he's now living) with that last ruthless con. He just couldn't stay away or even let this one go….

This is definitely the equivalent of Walter White saying "I'm in the empire business!"

I don't think the writers will let him off here… he will meet his death or prison time soon.

Definitely felt that way. I've gone from thinking him and Kim get some sort of satisfying interaction and/or reunion to know thinking that he ends up in complete ruin. Though I do think we will see Kim one more time, just that it will only be painful for everyone involved.

It shows his drink in the very first BCS episode flash forward if people want to go back and watch and see what it is:

Throughout all the Gene scenes, across the entire run of the show, I've always felt and have hoped that Jimmy had finally been "humbled" in a way that at least made him remorseful. To the point where, even after everything he's done, I've felt a bit of empathy for him, seeing him so sad and alone. And because of that, I've always wanted him to get *some* kind of bittersweet ending, where he's not "saved" or cleared or free or anything along those lines - he still has to pay for his crimes - but at least finds some kind of relative peace again, be it via a brief encounter with Kim, or he gets a better, more fulfilling job, or something along those lines.

But that changed tonight.

Or, at least, I thought it did.

Because, like many here have been saying, for most of the episode I had this sense of dread and a resigned acknowledgment that Jimmy truly can't let Saul go, that this is who he'll always be, that he's going down the same poor-decision-road yet again, etc. And that no, he's not going to find any kind of solace, he's going to get his comeuppance, for good this time, be it via jail or death.

But what if that's what they *want* us to think.

Because they obviously obscured/muted that Kim phone call for a reason, if he even managed to get through to her at all and wasn't just talking to someone who knew her. And what if the reason they obscured it from us is because Jimmy's not going after all that money just to save enough to go down and see her in Florida, after she rebuked him, but he's collecting all that money to HELP her in some way?

In other words, Jimmy's either up to old tricks, in order to show up unannounced on Kim's doorstep, even though she doesn't want to see him, and this all ends horribly - or - Jimmy is up to his old tricks, but it's somehow to do something GOOD this time, and potentially even help Kim out in some way.

The only thing that makes me think it's the former is the whole cancer thing, seeing as f/cking over a guy with cancer feels like a bridge too far, even if Jimmy were to ultimately be using the money for good. So, my gut says Saul has won the fight for Jimmy's soul, and now we're just watching a slow motion car crash, but my heart still has hope that there's something bigger and more hopeful at play here.

Don't know how it will play out but Carol Burnett is suspicious of Gene now.
