What besides The Wire has Simon done that is good? I found Treme (the little I did see) and Show Me a Hero to be boring as hell.

Treme had lots of good and lots of boring.

I thought Show Me a Hero was fantastic.

The Deuce was great as well.

I've seen the Wire 4 or 5 times. I've only seen BB more. But I have no such desire to watch Show Me A Hero again. I would say city level politics bores me, but I loved it in The Wire. So go figure.

I thought it was really well done and interesting, but man, it was depressing as hell. Will not revisit.

Am I the only one that liked the corner? I never hear it mentioned with his other stuff.

The Deuce is soooooo underrated. Absolutely incredible show and wildly entertaining. I loved Treme but I definitely understand the boring sentiment.

Pimps, hookers and porn stars are much more entertaining than chefs and musicians... not to mention two Francos!

not to being F16 here too much but i think it's probably necessary because Simon doesn't really hide the fact that his shows are overly political. The Wire is my favorite show of all time and he (generally) was fair in his portrayal of police, not being overly critical and casting them in a mostly good light.

that said, this seems like it may be an attempt to cash in on the anti police sentiments of the last 10 or so years or so. i'm worried this could go over the top.

It's simon so he gets a lifetime pass with me, but i just wanted to put my concerns on paper

The Baltimore GTTF was a pretty ****ed up situation. While I can definitely understand feeling that sentiment viewing the trailer, there's enough in there to make be believe Simon will do good by it. But at the end of the day the subject matter is not a pretty look for the police so I don't know how you avoid telling it like it is.

i get it and agree with you and am holding out hope. Simon has earned that. I may be one of the few on here who actually enjoyed Treme and that certainly wasn't the nicest depiction of police (rightly so).

but it's hard for me not to watch something like the Wire, and Treme, and now this, which are all based in crime ridden hell holes, and have Simon complain that police are the problem.

Marlo as a cop should be fire though

I don't think Simon has ever complained that police are *the* problem. His whole theory/theme/thesis has always been that the SYSTEM is what's broken/the problem, and police are merely a part of that system. There are good cops/bad cops, good politicians/bad politicians, drug dealers/prostitutes trying to do right but getting sucked back in, etc. I've always felt that Simon has shown a moral spectrum across a broader, broken system of ineptitude and corruptness, from the streets to the highest rungs of power, and the police just happen to be right in the middle of it all.

100% this. He shows police as flawed, but I mean, they are! The best thing about the wire was that every facet of the system was part of the problem, with the exception of the kids who were just fodder for the machine to screw up and chew up.

The first few minutes of the intro, sucked me in this show. 20 years since the first season of The Wire, the millennial in me is now feeling old.

Now that Bosch ended, I'm glad to keep seeing Jaime Hector.

wanted to come back here and eat crow after Ep 1. it's certainly critical of Baltimore PD but i didn't feel like it was over the top. so far it's being fair in showing all sides being culpable in Baltimore being a complete and total cluster F and it's got its hooks fully in me. i can't wait for the next one.

Poot, Marlo, Slim Charles already in ep 1.

inject this show directly into my veins

With all the great TV on right now, the pilot felt a little dry/procedural in comparison, but then, yeah, that ending totally sucked me in.

Loving this so far and enjoy jumping around the timeline. Jenkins cracks me up. How is this thread way down on page 3 with no posts for 11 days? Too much good tv competing for bandwidth?
