Star Wars was brutal to sit through. All my family was loving it and I kept looking at my watch.

Honest opinion. I've never liked the Godfather and never understood all the hype over it. Outside of a couple iconic scenes I just don't care for it at all. I tried to like it. Every few years I'll sit down and watch it to see if anything has changed. Still the same result.

This. It is one thing to say it wasn't your thing, but to call one of the greatest cinematic masterpieces in history "awful" is trolling.

Even "III" -- the obvious weakest and most critically panned of the bunch, isn't "awful". Some of the acting is bad (Sofia) or over the top (Garcia, Mantegna, Shire), and it seems to be a caricature of a Godfather movie, but it isn't "awful". It is just what happens when you have to make a sequel without most of the core actors that made the first 2 great.

Lord of The Rings trilogy. And I love the books.
I once heard a standup comic nail this. He said it was three movies that were three hours long each about walking through the woods. Even the trees walk through the woods in these movies.

The Notebook.

Avoided that damn thing for 28 years before my current gf forced me to watch it a few years ago. Went into it with an open mind. She kept talking about how "beautiful" it was while it just depressed the hell out of me.

Others, the recent Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy - only movie I've ever walked out of in the theatre I thought it was so bad.

I don't really care for Titanic, either.

Show-wise - The Wire. I've tried 3 different times to get into it and I just can't.

I think the worst thing a movie can be is boring. An awful movie is at least interesting and sometimes unintentionally hilarious. I can say that the Godfather is objectively a better film than "Manos: The hands of fate", but given the choice I'd rather watch Manos because the Godfather movies bore the pants off of me. Ditto, There will be blood.

The passion of the Christ

It simply blows my mind that any could watch that empty shell of movie and think "yeah that was a good movie" let alone a great movie. Just weird torture porn. No compelling story. No character development. Nothing. Just an Eli Roth fever dream

Character development? Come on, man. This is not your best troll.

Hint: a large number of people have read the book.

For those that say Star Wars, I would be interested to know if it was before their time.
When you view it through today's lens it's average, because everything else sci-fi copied it or expanded on it,
Anyone who was around then can attest to how truly groundbreaking and just light years ahead of its time it was. It changed what was possible for action films, sci-fi, FX and even the cinematic score. It was in theaters for a full year. There really isn't a modern historical comparison.

It was beyond any Sci-Fi I could have imagined at the time.

Vader, in that menacing black costume, towering over everyone with a helmet based on a Nazi infantry helmet, with that respirator going and the voice of James Earl Jones telling tiny Leia "YOU ARE A REBEL SPY!!!" all against that white background on the hallways on the Tantive IV, and flanked by bright white Stormtroopers (another Nazi callback), all this immediately after that opening score and the episode description coming up the screen and going off into space…that was about as good a night as a young movie goer could experience.

Also really lazy lyrics on a lot of the songs. In more than one case, it's just the same word on consecutive lines.

My 2 & 4 year old daughters are crazy for it. For weeks, they would ask for it every time we got in the car. Eventually I just started saying, "No, Daddy's tired of Encanto. We're listening to something else."

Yep. Stood in line three times on consecutive days when it opened as a 7 year old. Totally blown away. My sci-fi exposure to that point was Star Trek reruns, Lost in Space and Bugs Bunny cartoons.

To the thread, the Clerks movies suck. The only redeeming quality from those movies is the Deathstar monologue if I'm associating that with the right movie.

In fact, almost all Kevin Smith movies suck. The best thing he's done is his Daredevil comics run.
