Nothing wrong with that, many YouTubers' movies have been excellent horror flicks.

This weekend will be interesting as it'll likely be a 3-way battle for first place…

He-Man (unfortunately) is tracking around 30-35 million total and Scary Movie 6 could land around the same number…and then you've got Backrooms in its second weekend that could land around that same mark depending on its legs.….

They made sure to remove he man from the title. More woke garbage. They can't even have a hot supergirl. And get ready for more movies made by YouTubers. Sh it just gets worse

Have you watched Obsession or Backrooms yet bwfore making your comment on Youtuber movies?

This is, like, one of those hilariously eye-rolling things someone would write for the most cliched conservative character ever on some satirical comedy series. Yet, here on TexAgs, it's actually real.

If the rest of the summer closes out like this I'll be surprised and happily eat my crow for previous doubts about the box office forecast.

Two years ago, one of my kids got me to watch an episode of the Gooseworx animated show "The Amazing Digital Circus" on YouTube with her. The first episode came out in October 2023, and started gaining some steam, picked up for distribution by Netflix while remaining 100% free on YouTube. There were 3 episodes in 2025, and then a phenomenal 7th and 8th one this year - it got popular to the point they released the final hour-long episode in theaters today, coupled with the 8th one (30 minutes) - for a 90-minute theaterical release. It will be out 2 weeks before premiering on YouTube June 19.

Deadline has it making $6.8 million today in about 2,200 theaters, making it #1 for the day. It's got a 97% on RT . I I really got into it in the last 2 episodes, which draw a lot from The Matrix, Severance, a old Twilight Zone episode, and a very creepy 1960s novella called "I have no mouth, and I must scream".

I took my kid and 2 of her friends to see it today, and I don't think I've ever seen a better final episode for a TV series in my entire life. Would definitely recommend to anyone to check it out.

Ok…this has to be a glitch right??? No way does Scary Movie 6 do this terribly…..

Edit: this is projections for Friday…just for comparison all else being shown lines up and makes sense but we were getting news that Scary Movie 6 was going to do around 25 - 35m this weekend….

Masters of the Universe: 11.7m
Backrooms: 7.9m
Obsession: 7.7m
The Amazing Digital Circus (wth is this?): 4.3m
ManGrok: 2.5m

Yes, that's wrong. It's gonna open to over $55M.

Box Office Mojo doesn't put out updated weekend numbers till Sunday usually.

I figured. That's gotta be more of an idiotic typo though because all those other numbers seem on par. They're all highlighted blue which also mean they're just projections.

And that's also cool to hear. My memory was going by earlier projections so if it's showing 50-ish m opening for domestic that's cool.

Might be more front loaded though for the box office performance but these films are cheap so it'll definitely make $$$$

From the trailer, she's looks Tom-boy. Definitely not hollywood-hot

That explains it. I told my wife after the trailer that supergirl looked like a lesbian.

If HeMan bombs, I would like to see a ranking of Jared Leto's last few movies.

Master's of the Universe
Tron:Ares
Haunted Mansion
Morbius
House of Gucci
The Little Things
The Outsider
Blade Runner 2049

I'm probably leaving some out, and some are direct to Netflix, but he hasn't been box office gold.

The thing is, plenty of people are saying its a fun movie. Just like Mortal Kombat 2 was a dumb fun movie that gave you precisely what you want from a movie based on a fighting video game, and it got generally favorable reviews. Yet it still bombed at the box office. I think these types of movies are the casualties of the insane price of going to the theaters these days.

That's why when the first Mortal Kombat movie came out in 1995 it made domestically almost double what the current MK 2 movie made (when adjusting for inflation). Because back then you could go see a movie and buy a popcorn and a drink for the price of what one ticket cost today. Which meant it could afford to be a spur of the moment decision to go spend a couple of hours watching a movie that may or may not turn out to be good. Nowadays the price has taken away that decision - you decide to fork over that $50 only when you're confident the movie will be worth it to you.

In other words, these types of movies have the same demand now that they did back then, but due to ticket prices and concession prices people nowadays choose to wait a few months until they come out on streaming.

I can't tell you how many times I saw the Tron:Ares trailer and started thinking "this looks cool" and then he shows up and I'm like "Oh, yeah, never mind."

Isn't that opening a disappointment for Disclosure Day, considering it's a Spielberg movie and all the hype?

It was initially projected to do only $35M opening weekend.

It's now likely going to hit around $44M.

Regardless, Spielberg simply isn't the draw he used be, and there's no big, male, movie-star lead, so expectations were never too high for this one. Universal was hoping to open to do $40M+, they'll do just that, and everyone will be happy.

For Universal, this was always their warm-up before releasing both Minions & Monsters and The Odyssey in July, each of which could potentially come close to, if not surpass, a billion.

Gotcha. I'm now mainly seeing it was projected for the $40-55 million range, so I guess its coming in right there at the lower end.

On a sidenote, I hate the b.s. positive spin that a lot of articles put on low box office numbers by comparing current openings to historical ones. For example, numerous articles are bragging that this opening for Disclosure Day even beats the Jurassic Park opening in 1993 (which I call b.s. on because everything I'm reading, says jurassic park opened up at $48-50 million). The problem with their argument is that when adjusted for inflation Jurassic Park opened to roughly $112 million. And I remember for a fact that the hype for Jurassic Park was ten times what it was for this movie.

Its a little sad that his movies aren't the big spectacle they once were because Spielberg WAS my youth....Jaws, the Indiana Jones Trilogy, E.T., Goonies, Hook, Jurassic Park. And then when I was in college and mature enough he put out Schindler's List, Amistad, and the masterpiece that is Saving Private Ryan. Best Director of all time.
