There used to be a new music thread on here that was an enjoyable place to share and get some new ideas of bands to check out, so I thought I'd take a stab at bringing it back.

Some current vinyl pre-orders I am awaiting:

Metric - Formentera (should be delivered today)
The Backseat Lovers - Waiting To Spill
Taylor Swift - Midnights
Arctic Monkeys - The Car

Looking forward to new Tyler Childers, but ain't spitting out $60 for 8 songs done 3 times, so this will be a digital for me.

And what better new music could you ask for than a surprise new Toadies EP - "Damn You All To Hell" that dropped this morning!

1. Damn You All To Hell (Instrumental)
2. Deep Deep Water
3. Forgiven
4. Sound and Vision (David Bowie cover)

I like this song but checked out some of their other stuff and it is too country for my taste. This song is pretty solid southern rock though.

They kind of go back and forth, kind of like early Drive By Truckers. Here's a handful from them I think you might like better if you're interested:

  • Gasoline
  • Bad Weather (a bit more ballad-y with a killer solo to cap off the back half)
  • Mud
  • Frogman
  • Early Morning Shakes (better if you can find a live version)

I'm a middle aged dude so my new music will be music from that stereotypical genre. It IS still new though!

Marcus King's new album is pretty great. Guitar-forward blues rock, with shades of Skynyrd, ZZ Top, and Black Crowes, and maybe some Stevie Ray Vaughan. Can also definitely hear some Black Keys influence, not surprising since Dan Auerbach produced it.

Big Marcus King fan. Saw him at HoB last year. Great show.

The opening track to the Melvins new album sounds exactly a song written by someone whose dog is talking to them

The new album by YYNOT, "Light and Shade," is quite good. You can hear their Rush influence in places, but it's not overbearing. Killer musicians who can write great hooks.

Calling all metalheads

This isn't new.. it's 2018, but it was their first release in 8 years, and nothing released since. I had heard of this band, but never gave them a listen. I am totally hooked on this album Front to Back.

If you're not a metalhead but like choir and symphony, this album is loaded with it.

starting at about 2:10. epic orchestration and choirs.

showing how catchy a choir backed to metal can be at 3:05, then how beautiful metal can sound at 3:30

I've been reading headlines that it's kinda metal. I'll have to check it out.

I've like a lot of NB songs over the years.. they can be heavy. Side of a bullet, Follow You Home

Been listening to Adam Hood's new album a lot lately (title track below), great Americana. If you haven't heard of him, you've probably at least heard of songs he's written or the artists who sing them

Another semi new.. last summer

This band is amazing. He sings clean, so that is a plus for those that aren't into metal for those reasons. It's proggy, with absolutely crazy instrumentation and poly-rhythms.. but the guy can sing some hella catchy stuff. Very spacey/dreamy.
Seen them described as depeche mode meets djent

Get through the djenty part to the chorus if that isn't your bag..

I'll give it a shot. On a similar note (not necessarily new, came out in 2020 but new to me) Killer Be Killed which is a super group of Max Cavalera (Sepultura/Soul Fly), Troy Anderson (Mastadon), and Greg Puciato (Dillinger Escape Plan) is addicting and has been on repeat. Album is called Reluctant Hero.

i assume you're referring to vola (I had a second post but dimmu is like 25 years old.)

Man I somehow came across them on the first album and was an instant fan.
I wished they toured the US on that album so I could have seen most of it.

At this point, I just wish they'd come over to the US at all.. they have a song on xm.. seems like they'd have decent crowds.

Yep. I've been hooked on them since Inmazes. Judging by their recent live album, they can pull everything off in concert quite well.

RHCP - Return of the Dream Canteen out today.

I don't know where I land on them...sometimes i'm in the mood other times I'm not. I'll give this a listen today/this weekend.

I read Flea and Kiedis' autobiographies recently and went down that rabbit hole. While I admire and respect them, ultimately they aren't one of my favorites.

If you're wondering, Fleas book was better, but both good reads.

Came out a few weeks ago, but John Fullbright released his first new album in 8 years and I'm really enjoying it.

Along the same lines as John Fullbright, Cailtin Rose has a new album coming out in November. She released two fantastic albums in the early 2010s and then fell off the face of the earth. Very excited about this one.

First song released from new album:

Older, but KennyHoopla scratches that Pop punk itch for me in a way that most other modern bands in the genre don't. Perfect mix of both.

New Queensryche just came out, have it rolling now and sounds pretty solid on first listen through.

So far estella is easily his best song, in my opinion.
