Going with some friends to see them in Dallas. Tried to talk them into the Vegas festival with Blink and Green Day headlining.

Green Day puts on a fantastic show. Always have.

But they're my favorite band so I may be biased.

I mean... it's strange what nostalgia does for our taste.

I hear Tom or Mark singing and I know they're not great singers... but those voices are my adolescence. Their and Billie Joe's voices are just ingrained in my soul and I will always like hearing them.

And now I am listening to Blink for the rest of the evening. It's so hard to explain how listening to Anthem Part II after not hearing it for so long just makes me feel. Takes me back to 14 and represents the beginning of my music journey. Sitting on the bus to school, popping in Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, and pressing play. That's high school.

My first rock show ever was Green Day's first show on the American Idiot tour in Fort Worth. My naive self thought, there's no way they are playing Jesus of Suburbia and Homecoming live... damn, but am I happy I was wrong. I believe Sugarcult and New Found Glory opened for them.

Unfortunately I missed the Pop Disaster Tour because my mom would have never let me go, and I was only 14 and not pushing back as hard as I did at 16-17. Would have loved to see Green Day, Blink, and JEW on the same show.

I think Blink is the only big band from my early adolescence that I haven't seen live, and I'd really like to check them out next year.

I've seen Offspring (x2), Incubus, Weezer, RHCP, HIM, Limp Bizkit, Green Day, The Killers, and all were pretty damn good shows.

it's crazy to me how I read this and think, for me it was AIC, nirvana, PJ and soundgarden.

I was 11-12 and it's baffling how depressing so much of that music was, but man does it bring me back.

Talk about polar opposites of subject matter. Seattle sound is drugs and mortality
Blink is pubescent toilet humor.

Proves that it's not the subject matter really, it's just what was there when you were a young kid coming of age.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm glad I grew up with the Seattle sound.
As a musician (guitar player and drummer) , there is much more substance.

Damn this had a chance to be a complete disaster like the Fyre Festival. Crazy that the festival organizers were able to pull this off without confirming any of the bands first.

Right! Surprised all of the bands agreed to play after the festival organizers pulled a stunt like that.

Yea I think I saw a few as well but can't rightly recall. I was big time in to the hardcore scene though and there used to be a ton of hardcore shows around the area. That kind of led to just going to a ton of shows in general. Those days were fun, wild and chaotic. I gave zero ****s haha. If someone on this board knew me then and knew me now they would probably think God worked a miracle.

My parents were big on religion and therefore strict on the music I was allowed to listen to so their first two albums were on heavy rotation in my young teenage years. Once they softened up with the album with the jock on the cover and slowly going the way of the Buffalo I kinda stopped listening to them. It is kind of funny to revisit those albums as an adult.

Eh, sounds more like Skiba doesn't fully realize that most of the decisions about when and where most bands played are made without much input from the band at all.

Live Nation didn't just hope this lineup would come together. They were likely contractually obligated to.

As funny as me being raised Jewish and it being my first concert?

Life In General (jock on the cover) was still great. Slowly Going the Way of the Buffalo is when they actually started getting airtime if I recall (Matt Pinfield and 120 minutes played "I'm Ok, You're Ok" a lot). That whole album is still pretty good.

Yea I listened to life in general way more than SGTWOTB but I just wanted heavier and/or faster at that time in my life so I just wasn't in to it. Maybe ill give it another listen just for the hell of it.

Pretty sure none of them ever have been, which is why I found that post weird.

Fun fact, Dexter Holland has a PhD in molecular biology.
He is also a pilot - as in commercial jet pilot like Travolta. Grammys, PhD, jet pilot.

I stayed in a holiday in express so I got that going for me.

According to Skiba, none of the members of Alkaline Trio knew they were playing in that festival, and a lot of other bands he spoke with didn't know as well. Seems a little weird that none of those bands knew they were playing in a big music festival with each other. Wouldn't their manager, publicist, agent etc not give them a heads up they were going to play the music festival??

Certainly this wouldn't happen at other music festivals like ACL or Coachella. Skiba makes it sound like the band confirmed they were playing the festival after they were advertised on the bill.

"Whether I'm supposed to, or not supposed to say anything, I guess, is immaterial," says Skiba. "It makes the conversation more fun. But that festival initially, they announced all those bands playing before anybody said yes. [Vulture has reached out to representatives for We Were Young Festival for a response]. It was a Fyre Festival kind of stunt that worked. And I only know that because my band was on that initial flyer, with every other band from our whole ilk. And they almost expertly started advertising it before they had a single band on the bill. And somehow, all the bands agreed to do it. I'm not making this up. Somebody may correct me, but I know that Alkaline Trio, we hadn't confirmed anything. And when we read that, we called other bands that were playing, and nobody knew about it."

Proposition Joe

I'm saying it's a Live Nation produced festival that has a ton of bands that are under the thumb of Live Nation.

What is more likely - they put out a flyer and then got lucky that all the bands agreed... or that they put out a flyer that included a large group of bands that are contractually obligated to tour/festival for them?

Even Billie Joe doesn't sit down and say "oh we're going to play Denver and then I think the next week we should really hit Oklahoma, I've really wanted to see that part of the country". LiveNation talks with the band's agent and says "you're touring here, here, here and here".

Worked at WB back in 2008/09 - corporate office so not like we were part of the "talent". It was the week of christmas, so a lot of people were out. We got locked out of the breakroom/lunchroom that we normally used.

All American Rejects set up in there. Till this day, don't know why. They played a few songs at rock star volume so the entire building heard it. Packed up and I never saw them afterword's. Was very weird.

Buddy who is there this weekend just told me they cancelled it because of wind conditions. Probably not great for them trying to make it a regular thing.
