I've said it once, I'll say it again. The mom in the original was low-key hot.
In the movie "Slap Shot" she's not even low key.

So the original was set in 1940, but released in 1983. If you released this reboot in 2026, but set it in 1983, the time difference would be the same (43 years).
Pretty sure this new movie is set in1979 or 1980.

This is probably one of those gen x/millennial divides.

Hate it when it's on during Christmas season
Which are you?
both groups should have grown up watching it, either way
My zoomer kids love it.

My zillenial kid hates it.

And all the boys would want is the Kenner Millennium Falcon toy

Everyone is entitled to an opinion.

But yours is wrong. You are bad and you should feel bad.
Sorry not sorry.

There's a hundred better Christmas movies than this I'd rather watch. This one doesn't touch the greatness of Christmas Vacation, Home Alone, and many others.

Zoomer is Gen Z. Gen Z loves to call everyone a boomer, so people started calling them Zoomers.

Zellinial is borderline Millenial and Z. He doesn't really fit either being born in 1996.

Going back to the movie, I think part of the greatness is the narration by Jean Sheppard. I hope this isn't lacking without that.

Someone mentioned that the last time I mentioned she was hot, and I was grateful for it then as I am now.

OP loses a few points for referring to him as Scott Farkus. Most of us know him as Scut.

To me, this movie perfectly captures how a 9-year-old boy views the world. And the narration by Jean Shepherd, author of book that the movie is based on, is flawless.

It will be interesting to see if this is any good.

It could be.

Although, I will say 8-Bit Christmas was actually pretty fun to watch....

At this point Brian has made his horrible movie opinions so well known that its pretty much expected he'll make comments like this. I actually respect his unabashed willingness to throw them out there. Just always remember, the 90's were his childhood, so he's skewed into thinking they were the high point of entertainment.

And as I already posted on another thread, I'm gonna need to see at least a dozen glowing reviews on here before I watch this sequel. I don't want to taint my feelings towards the original with anything that doesn't up to it.

The one thing I could never get was the Dad supposedly said the F word about a hundred times a day and I just didn't see it with him. Maybe it's the wholesomeness in which McGavin played him, but I just couldn't see it.

Of course he worshipped electric sex in the window so maybe I shouldn't be surprised.

What makes this movie great are all the little touches, like Ralph looking for the package from Little Orphan Annie every day and when it finally arrives he grabs it and leaves the rest of the mail in the mailbox. Total kid/dick move.

I also like how the extra punching match went on with Scut and his little toadie Grover Dill where the last one you could tell would leave a big bruise.

Great film and although I enjoy Home Alone and Christmas Vacation more it's still top 3 for me.

When Randy is opening his presents and yells out "Whoopie! A zeppelin!" is my favorite. The idea of being that excited for a zeppelin cracks me up.

This movie is so great. My wife and I have an unspoken agreement where every year I make the family watch Christmas Story and she makes us watch White Christmas. She hates Christmas Story as much as I hate White Christmas.

this movie is so polarizing. my wife doesn't get it. i love it.

Same here. I grew up watching it multiple times throughout the 24 hour marathon every year with my dad and brother. It's really a special part of Christmas for me. My wife puts up with it, but doesn't really like it.

No idea how this got by me as a kid.

Saw the original in the theater with my parents. We were laughing so hard as we walked to the parking lot that we tried to get in the wrong car. A similar make/model/color car was parked close to us and it took us a second to figure out why the key wasn't working. Safe to say the whole family loved it.

I haven't rewatched it in forever though. My family does watch Christmas Vacation and Elf every year though.

I always say the cutoff should be around 93 at latest. Someone born in 96 has very little in common with someone born in the 80s. They never knew the world before cell phones or the Internet.

No it's not. It's right on the edge of millennial and Gen Z, like he said. An easy way to know you're a millennial is if you were in school for 9/11.

As for the movie, I'm not a big fan. The family is completely different than mine and I can't relate at all.

As much as I enjoy the classic all the commercialism around it has really watered it down for me….which is sad cause my family would watch this every Christmas growing up long before it was constantly running on whatever channel for 24 hours straight…..

The sequels sucked….the musical sucked…..the televised live version really sucked…..

And odds are this is gonna suck too…..but I hope I'm wrong
