I always say the cutoff should be around 93 at latest. Someone born in 96 has very little in common with someone born in the 80s. They never knew the world before cell phones or the Internet.

She was the actress that portrayed Barry's mom from Close Encounters of the Third Kind, maybe that is why?Brian Earl Spilner said:superunknown said:

For most of my childhood I thought she and the mom from E.T. were the same person. No idea why.

Never seen Close Encounters, so doubtful.
I guess in my kid brain both were moms in movies I grew up watching that looked somewhat similar.

Mine are bad, no doubt. But not a single one is as bad as not having seen Close Encounters.

I agree with that. I thought millennial went to 99 or so, but guess I was wrong! Technically 96 is the last year.

The one thing I could never get was the Dad supposedly said the F word about a hundred times a day and I just didn't see it with him. Maybe it's the wholesomeness in which McGavin played him, but I just couldn't see it.
Of course he worshipped electric sex in the window so maybe I shouldn't be surprised.
What makes this movie great are all the little touches, like Ralph looking for the package from Little Orphan Annie every day and when it finally arrives he grabs it and leaves the rest of the mail in the mailbox. Total kid/dick move.
I also like how the extra punching match went on with Scut and his little toadie Grover Dill where the last one you could tell would leave a big bruise.
Great film and although I enjoy Home Alone and Christmas Vacation more it's still top 3 for me.

You can certainly tell she is happy to be with Paul Newman.EclipseAg said:In the movie "Slap Shot" she's not even low key.superunknown said:

That feels more like a Christmas Vacation knockoff than a Christmas Story sequel.
Bulgaria is far enough away that I think they would still be pretty safe. I work with a Romanian company, and they're business as usual.TCTTS said:
Just found out this entire thing was shot in Bulgaria, for budgetary reasons, right as the war in Ukraine was getting underway. So weird.
Yes, that is inexcusable. I will need a new thread opened by the end of this weekend with your thoughts on CE3K.TCTTS said:
I at least have somewhat of an excuse for my big Spielberg gap - Schindler's List - being that I'm never in the mood to watch something so serious and depressing. But not having seen a pantheon Spielberg sci-fi classic like Close Encounters is almost inexcusable.
