Got tickets for the LA show in August bc my 13 year old daughter wants to go!!
In my experience, there's no such thing as luck.

No other artist has had a massively and critically successful run at some point in their career, and then again 30 years later.
Carlos Santana (1968-72), 1999?

yeh maybe, on a lesser level. Supernatural was loaded with current, hot, pop artists. Santana alone I doubt would have had that success.

metallica has been continuous, which is more to what I was referring to. Every album since black has debuted at number 1, gone went multi platinum, and picked up a Grammy along the way. It wasn't just a gap with a single successful one off.

72 Seasons might be in the running for best Metallica song since the black album. I really, really dig it. The other singles so far have been more or less fine, but that song slays.

Mine too. It's obviously not going to be some ground-breaking, seminal album, but I think all the songs have been good so far. Good background or driving music.

That song kicks ass. Thanks for sharing.

oh Metallica...it's great to have you Black again!

edit: one thing that's obvious though....they shot all these music videos in the same studio

First, let me say Metallica has been my favorite band since I was 12. That's 35+ years, and I can always go back to something in their repertoire for whatever I am wanting to hear at that moment.

Now, my question is this…Is it me or are the lyrics getting to sound kind of "hooked on phonics" the last couple/few albums? A lot of James belting out very short (often one word), rhyming lines, that repeat throughout the song, especially in the buildup to start each one, then again and again and again. I get that he's going on 60 and doesn't have the voice/lungs/stamina he had in 1985 so he's maybe thinking about being able to play them live and keep it somewhat recognizable, but it's getting very repetitive, song after song. It makes the newer stuff less unique, in my opinion.

That's the common theme for me, especially with this album. Very elementary, repetitive lyrics by James.

72 Seasons (song) is by far the best of the four released so far. They are performing on Kimmel every night this week, and tomorrow is supposed to be the full version of Master of Puppets.

Their interviews are getting worse and worse as time goes on. The tension between James and Lars is very obvious. Nothing new but it's almost uncomfortable to watch. James looked very thin sitting and talking to JK, but looked like normal James when they played.

In the Bay Area, back before 92.3 "The Rock" KSJO changed formats and became Hot Bollywood Hits, they used to do a call-in contest where you had to guess the Metallica song based on James screaming "Yeah!".

It was hilarious. Like "Name that Tune" based on the "Yeah!" from "Enter Sandman" versus the "Yeah!" from "Wherever I May Roam".

They say this as if they haven't played the short version in over 25 years.

it's probably just special since it's an 8 minute song on TV rather than a cut version

I did not watch last night but the Tuesday show looked to me like it was vocal tracks. Anyone else notice that is looked a bit like James wasn't singing live?

Okay, so after watching last night's, James appears to be singing live. I'll have to go back and watch Tuesday as I may be seeing things...

Not sure where you're getting that.. not a shadow of doubt that he's singing that live. every inflection, vowel, etc lines up.

metallica turned down playing at half time for a NFL Conference championship game because they wanted them to do it pre-recorded.....

so instead of that crap they did a live free show in the parking lot.....at Raiders Stadium.....

you can find videos of it online....so awesome!

so yeah there's no way those guys would ever play anything pre-recorded.

Just finished downloading. Through the first 6, and first impressions…

72 Seasons, we have established, is really good
Shadows Follow might be even better
Screaming Suicide is better than Lux Aeterna
Sleepwalk My Life Away is OK
You Must Burn has a Sad But True feeling
Lux Aeterna still makes me want to listen to Kill Em All

I'd like to meet up with others on here if possible before the Arlington shows…it will be my 11th show on Friday and have early access floor seats.
