Also very clear the people in charge of casting have never been to small town Wisconsin. I mean... I don't mind the diversity... But yeah... That's not Wisconsin

Yes, that's Laura Prepon. How are you disappointed?

Been watching the 70s show with my wife on the latest binge. She has never seen it and loving it so far (on season 5 when Kitty just started menopause). Still cracks me up that 8 seasons happened in a span of 3 years IRL but they had multiple christmas, halloween, thanksgiving episodes. In spite of those kind of gaffes, it's a fantastic show and makes you think back to all the things you did in High School.ElephantRider said:
Watched the first episode and enjoyed it. Don't care about them going with a diverse cast, but the gay Asian character does seem very forced
The Disney thing is spot-on. It feels like a kids show, except it's not. I'm guessing it's because they're actually using kids to play the kids. Outside of Mika Kunis, the original cast was all 18+ when the show started

I though Topher was in his 30's when the series started.
Oh please. No one is "whining" about it. When Hollywood makes it a point to push this, we are allowed to mock it.Know Your Enemy said:
Then again, I am not someone distracted or offended by diversity in a cast. It doesn't really even register with me until I see people whining about it online.
And why do you have such a problem with others having opinions different from yours? Why do you keep whining about other people's opinions? You'd think you would have better things to do with your life.Know Your Enemy said:
The fact that you need to comment on it shows you have a problem with it.
You can have any opinion you want. But when people beat the issue to death like a dead horse it gets old. This is a message board so I am on this thread to discuss the show. The diversity of the cast doesn't affect the show to me in any way so when people keep bringing it up it ruins the discussion.DallasTeleAg said:And why do you have such a problem with others having opinions different from yours? When it is stated over & over on every single movie/TV show thread it does ruin the conversation, yes.DallasTeleAg said:
People posting their opinion about an aspect of the show ruins your conversation? You don't have to respond to those specific posts. You do realize you can just scroll past them and move on with your life, right?
As long as Hollywood keeps forcing it to be part of the conversation (which is what they want) - what do you expect? Just learn to filter what you read and ignore stuff not relevant to what you want to talk about.Know Your Enemy said:When it is stated over & over on every single movie/TV show thread it does ruin the conversation, yes.DallasTeleAg said:

Smith and Rupp, also EPs, are going to be the constants, but we'll also see Grace, Prepon, Kunis, Ashton Kutcher and Wilmer Valderrama pop in from time to time (but not Danny Masterson, for obvious reasons). We'll also see Tommy Chong as Leo and Don Stark as Donna's father Bob (but not Tanya Roberts as Donna's mom, since she passed away in 2021). Whenever any of them are on screen, the show is as funny as the original, mainly because the Turners did such a great job of creating characters with contradictions that generated big laughs. But when the teen cast dominates a scene, we feel like we're being transported to a cringeworthy Nickelodeon sitcom from the '90s or '00s. Generic, one-dimensional characters, flat gags, over-the-top performances. Say what you will about the TV trope of adults playing teen characters, but 25 years ago, when every one of the original show's teens save the 15-year-old Kunis were 18 and above, there were subtleties to their performances that these actual teens don't have.
