We've now hit the Jason Takes Manhattan stage of the Scream series.

Someone please take this series behind the barn and put it out of it's misery.

Or send it to Space. One or the other.

You're saying that like Jason Takes Manhattan is a bad movie. That being said, that teaser trailer looked horrendous. That cast is awful.

Give Neve Campbell an Oscar for getting the hell outta this thing.

Five was better reviewed than the last two installments.

Jenna Ortega is killing it right now.

Why do you say it's awful? Barrera is a bit bland I suppose, certainly not bad.

I can find redeeming qualities about every Jason movie save for Jason Goes To Hell (and even that gets a nod for the Freddy bit at the end)... Manhattan is certainly the second worst of the series though.

I feel like these series being reviewed well actually fits with how stupidly meta/anti-meta and self-referencing they've become. They get good reviews because they are viewed as "smart" by critics when really the series has become the Scary Movie of horror cliches. Just because you point out the trope before you do it doesn't somehow make it OK.

I thought the last one was incredibly boring. It's the same old crap. Scream was a masterpiece, since then it's been the Saw of movie tropes.

But movie tropes ARE kind of its whole thing, and it has been from the jump. Personally, that's what I love about the series.

Plus, I like that all of them have somewhat of a unique take. (Besides 3.) Two is about sequel tropes, four is about remake tropes, and five is about "requels", aka legacy sequels. (And toxic fanbases.)

I'm pretty intrigued to see what the angle will be for this one. Plus, it's doing something fresh and different with the setting alone.

Maybe I need to go back and re-watch the fifth iteration, but wasn't Wednesday Ghostface? How do you come back from that?

No. It was her best friend.

Fun fact: Dewey and Gale have never spoken to the killer on the phone. (Until this movie )

I feel like the average NYC block has 20-25 people more crazy and dangerous than Ghostface at any given time of day.

My theory, which goes along with that, is that there's a cult of Ghostfaces in NYC this time, all being directed by Stu who survived the first movie. (Matthew Lillard)

Having only seen the first one, and possibly the second, I don't have much in the way of plot predictions. And I might be confusing the second one with I Know What You Did Last Summer

Reviews are looking solid. 81% on RT, higher than Scream 5's 76%.

Enjoyed that more than 5. The new setting and unexpected opening definitely felt fresh.

The post credits scene made me laugh.

Loved it.

The subway scene is about as tense as I have felt in theater in awhile.

It was clever, it was funny, the attack scenes were absolutely brutal.I wondered about 1 or 2 folks as being too obvious but the third I wasn't expecting.

Ok, so if I haven't seen a Scream movie since the third one, and remember next to nothing about it, am I going to be completely lost if I go into this one "cold"? Reviews are good, the New York setting looks cool, it feels like it's going to be a huge hit, and I'd like to be a part of that/have fun at the theater this weekend. But not if I'm going to be clueless. That said, I'm well-versed in the first two movies, if that counts for anything.

Have to admit I didn't guess it.

I suspected the detective but when the killer called in the park I thought that cleared him. Same for new kid when Mindy gets stabbed in the subway. I didn't expect it to be three this time.

I actually did think it was Kirby for a split second.

Also....a lot of references to Stu and the tv. Kirby had a line about believing if he's really dead or not. He is coming back for 7, book it.

Just watch 5.

They actually do a pretty decent job getting you up to speed on what happened in it, but I do think you'd enjoy it more. Plus it's actually pretty good.
