At this point, time to pivot completely, or just scrap the movie.

Not sure I buy that it has nothing to do with firing Barrera though.

I see it one of two ways:

1. Jenna Ortega was out months ago, and they were already moving away from the Carpenter sisters, in which case firing Melissa Barrera was already in the works and they used the tweets as an excuse.

2. Ortega walked because of her firing.

Either way, this timing is just too coincidental. I doubt anyone buys that official story.

I thought Scream scripts were just AI-generated?

Some rumors were swirling that she would die early on and be a driver for the older sister for the movie so she was already being planned for a smaller role (but she would have still been in for a third of the movie). It is a little too coincidental though

It's almost assuredly two. Not a single "insider" I follow seems to believe number one.

Besides, wasn't their story pretty much wrapped up at the end of the last movie? Either way, time to start fresh again.

Yeah, it ends on a beat that's very much a wrap-up for both of them.

So they probably either:
a) move forward with just the other two "core four" and bring in a bunch of new cast,
b) pivot back to Sidney (if they get Neve back),
c) just do something new entirely.

I'm not too hopeful they get Neve back, but even if they do, I'm not sure c isn't actually the best way to go.

You might still put Gale in there for a bit of connective tissue, but you don't need to do much beyond that.

Sounds like a combination of b and c…

Man, that fell apart quick. Sucks. Seems to be a Blade situation.

I was merely posting another point of view. I was saying "start over fresh," this guy was saying "shelve the franchise." The Barrera mention wasn't even on my radar.
