I am being silly. I thought that was pretty obvious. She is bored needs a hobby or someone to nurture while her soon to be retired husband is going to be home more. He loves cooking. The show made a pretty obvious effort to highlight both.TXTransplant said:Ragoo said:

Idk. That's just what my BF has predicted will happen.

I enjoyed this show a lot. It's tough to put my finger on it. I know the show had some of the same players as Ted Lasso, but it had a different vibe. Yet, it was still refreshing the same way Ted Lasso was when it first came out. Just something different and new.
I absolutely loved Paul (Harrison Ford). He was probably my favorite character. Liz annoyed me at first but I eventually got on board.
Criticism: Jason Segal's character was a little too goofy for me at times and I didn't like how often the show perpetuated the image that dad's are just hapless, know-nothing, rubes that can't relate to their children. Between Paul's relationship with his estranged daughter and Jimmy navigating the complexities of raising a teenage girl alone, we got a double dose of dad ****ing up left and right. I would have valued seeing/celebrating a little more of when Paul and/or Jimmy came through for their kids.
I'm looking forward to Season 2.
It doesn't bother me at all, but i have noticed that in shows where it's allowed, they go overboard.85aggie777 said:
I've really enjoyed this show. It's a refreshingly new theme and idea. The ending was definitely a shock value. Harrison Ford seems to be having fun with this role (although it makes me feel old to see him so old).
My question really has to do with an aspect of the streaming shows that kind of bothers me (warning: prude alert).
Why does there have to be such a barrage of swearing? Does Hollywood talk that way in everyday life?
I have lived in Los Angeles for over 30 years. I live in an area along the coast that is populated by the socio-economic class of people like they portray in Shrinking (doctors, lawyers, professionals, etc.). In school, work, social events I have been to over the decades, I do not hear the level of profanity that is routinely portrayed in these series.
Is it just to make it more edgy or artsy?
It stars out slowly, but make sure you watch with subtitles. The joke come quick. I'd say see if you cant get past the first episode which is just introducing everything.TXTransplant said:
We tried to watch an episode of Ted Lasso because I'd heard such good things. I fell asleep. My BF finished it but has no desire to watch any more episodes. We didn't get it.
Yeah, I guess that's my biggest beef with it. It loses its punch when it's in every other sentence.Chuck Cunningham said:

Don't watch Succession.85aggie777 said:Yeah, I guess that's my biggest beef with it. It loses its punch when it's in every other sentence.Chuck Cunningham said:

Haha, I get that! Funnily enough, I was IN the Navy and the sailors didn't swear as much around me as they do on these shows.TXTransplant said:
Funny, the swearing doesn't really bother me (except for sometimes when the daughter does it). Probably because my BF is from the Bronx and worked offshore and cusses like a sailor. He's def a bad influence on my vocabulary.
Good to know! Glad I decided to pass on that one.Chuck Cunningham said:Don't watch Succession.85aggie777 said:Yeah, I guess that's my biggest beef with it. It loses its punch when it's in every other sentence.Chuck Cunningham said:

I think we counted 70 something F bombs and 99 curse words total on the season 4 premier.85aggie777 said:Good to know! I was a huge fan of this show, they did a really good job with it. Did anyone else feel like they wrote Sean's character/plot with another actor in mind? There were multiple lines about him being "beautiful" and I really didn't think the actor fit the bill there.

And Jefferson D'Arcy was just a perfect *chef's kiss* in every scene.
I was wrong about Jessica Williams' character. She didn't change over the season, it just took me a few episodes to get into the rhythm Gabby. That said, she became my favorite character on the show. She was so fresh and funny with absolutely biting retorts and brutal honesty.Txmoe said:
- Seems like they changed Jessica Williams' Gabby a bit from the pilot. Originally, she seemed to be an airy, California flaky type. Seems like she gets further away from that with each episode.
