This week's episode definitely felt like the first half of a series finale, so it makes sense that next season will be "a new story" after a time jump. Will be interesting to see how they work Harrison Ford's character in, though...

Interesting.

So in the latest episode, Jimmy is talking to his dad. His dad is playing chords on his guitar.

The song he is strumming is the opening notes of Father and Son by Cat Stephens.

I am so proud i caught that Easter egg.

I am disappointed with yall in the lack of kudos for this.

Father and Son" by Cat Stevens (now Yusuf/Cat Stevens) is a 1970 folk-rock song exploring generational conflict, the pain of leaving home, and the struggle for independence. It portrays a conversation between a father urging stability and a son determined to forge his own path, ultimately reflecting the universal, often bittersweet, transition from adolescence to adulthood.

I don't because anytime I see "Cat Stevens" pop up on the display of my vehicle, I use lightning-fast speed to get to a "Cat-Stevens-Free" zone like Classic Rewind or 80s on 8.

It featured quite prominently on a Marvel movie not too long ago.

I agree. Great episode and really wrapped things up with a nice bow. The only unbelievable part was what Paul did at the end. That's a long flight for that short of a visit.

They definitely wrapped it up nicely, to the point where it felt so much like a *series* finale that it's almost weird the show is coming back. Don't get me wrong, if they want to keep going I'll gladly keep watching, but man that felt like the end.

IMO, the only thing that would have been better is, if it truly was the series finale, Jimmy and Meg (Paul's daughter) should have hooked up permanently. I thought they were really great together (I like Meg for him way more than Sofi, at least). Then Jimmy could have moved to Connecticut, Paul could have been his father-in-law (a literal father figure), and he would have been close to Alice at Wesleyan as well, could go to all her games, etc. That would have been my ideal ending.

Now, though? I have absolutely no idea what they're going to do going forward.

Sounds like a great season 4.

Breaks up with Sophie in ep 3-4. Flies to CT to see Alice play soccer and visits Paul for support. Sees Meg and finds out Dave is gone for good. They get the "safe d" and he flies home. And then they text…then call…then he flies back and they get engaged in the series finale.

Plot twist - season 4 time hops to Alice being a professional soccer player overseas in Ted Lasso season 4. Jimmy becomes the new sports therapist.

Greatest crossover ever.

Haven't been active in this thread but started the show earlier this year right before the new season, it's just so freakin' good. I'm a big Ted Lasso fan and there's a lot of those same sensibilities that I really enjoy.

I thought this felt like a finale as well, they did a really fantastic job bringing everything together and I got a little misty with Jimmy and Paul's conversation at breakfast (also cracked up at "she's really pretty, then she talks and you get it").

I know Bill Lawrence has talked about how he likes to do three season shows so I wasn't sure if this was going to continue or not, but I like the idea of a time jump for a different take on these characters. I'm thinking we could see Alice early in her career, Derek #2 and Gabby with a kid, maybe Jimmy and Sofi in a serious relationship (or even Jimmy and Meg).

But if it didn't go any further that this I'd be totally satisfied with the show. Lawrence knows how to do finales.

Even though the final "Jimmying" was great, I thought the Gaby-Derek2 proposal was the highlight of the episode.

Loved the show.

I
In my life, I've known absolutely nothing about therapy and have had a hard time understanding why or how People have needed it. On a practical point, this show has enabled me to learnso much about therapy. I didn't realize how much counseling is "textbook" such as relating issues to your own father. And, how problems can be cut and dry or extremely complex. Or, how some situations can be resolved fairly quickly while other take time and have relapses.

I've always been a Stoic, but now realize there were times in my life I could have used some sessions.

Yup, loved the characters - especially Mr. Loveboat.

But my takeaway is what affected me most.
