Reminder that this out tonight, not Thursday night.

(Though I'll be seeing Thursday night.)

Just saw this tonight and I thought it was great. The animation was killer imo.
My wife, who did not grow up watching TMNT like I did, absolutely loved it.

Took the kids today. Lots of fun and a pretty good story. The animation was fun, and Ice Cube was great as the villain.

Don't have much to add, took my kids to a matinee and had a blast. Lots of jokes for grownups who grew up on it, music was fantastic. Huge action scene set to one of the last songs I'd have expected and it was totally nails!

Ended up seeing it tonight, and yeah it's so damn fun. Really good story, with legitimately great emotional arcs, awesome action, and such an incredible soundtrack, both the needle drops and Trent Reznor's and Atticus Ross' fantastic score. I could have used maybe two more minutes of showing the turtle's ninja training growing up, and wish they would have taken that aspect just a bit more seriously, but otherwise it's such a great time and a real crowd pleaser. Hopefully it catches on at the box office this weekend and adds to the streak we've got going here at the end of the summer. The audience I saw it with really seemed to be into it, laughing throughout and even applauding at the end.

The score had some great synth use. A few Stranger Things sounding moments that I loved.

Do you even Spotify, bro?

Ha, hell no. I still (digitally) buy all my music for the same reasons I still buy movies on physical media - I want to own my collections, not just rent them from a corporation's cloud.

Also, Spotify's interface sucks. Give me the Apple Music app all day long.

Just got out of this one with the whole family. First time my boys have been introduced to the TMNT and I grew up with these characters.

Loved it! We all friggin loved it! So much fun!

They want to be introduced to the cartoons now!

That was fantastic. Thoroughly entertaining. I thought the voice actors were all great, and I loved that they felt like real teenagers.

Enjoyed all the pop culture references, and loved the soundtrack. (Clearly geared towards 90's kids.) Also the animation and 3D both looked great.

And also not any longer than it needed to be. (Looking at another animated movie.)

Can't see anyone not enjoying this.

It is. A friend of mine was visiting the director of that spot on set and got his picture taken with the guy, in full makeup.

If I could have one arcade game in my apartment, it would be the TMNT one. Used to play that at Peter Piper growing up. That and the Simpsons were my jam.

Took my kids and their friends to a place called Cidercade here in Houston….$12 per head and free arcade games all you can play as long as you want.

And yes they had The Simpsons and TMNT like we all remember…..except…..boy the controls are WAY more wonky than I remember due to games being so much better now….didn't have quite the same charm as they did back when I was a freshman in highschool playing these at Cici's Pizza…..

On top of those games also played….

T-2 classic shooter
Area-51
Time Crisis 2
Star Wars Trilogy

And a bunch others that had me going, "Man I was way easier to entertain over 20 years ago"

But the biggest realization of a screw job was Gauntlet Legends….playing that today for free after having not played since I was probably 15 at Midnight Comics…..boy what a screw job that game was for quarters…..

That movie was awesome. Loved all the pop culture and "new lingo" references. The 90s pop culture call backs.

That was fantastic.

sydney from the Bear was great too

Took my son (7) last night. I generally hate 3D movies, but we went to the 3D showing and I have to say that it was incredible. I don't know how to explain other than to saw it felt like we were inside a comic book. There were scenes walking through tunnels and inside cars were it felt like you were part of the group. Of course, there were a handful of "things flying at you" moments, but the over all effect of being "with the turtles" was just an incredible use of the effect. Highly recommend checking it out in 3D if you get the chance.

Cowabunga, dudes!

The animation was creative and true to the feel of TMNT. I loved how each of the turtles were slightly different looking and unique, usually with TMNT they're more cookie cutter.

Entertaining and great fun…

"Introducing Paul Rudd" in the credits made me Lolol harder than anything else.

7yo daughter loved this more than the 8yo son, which was funny bc I considered leaving her behind.

As for the movie itself:

I didn't mind the liberties they took with April. I thought it was an interesting move to make her an aspiring journalist and the same age as the turtles. I thought it was a little odd that Bebop and Rocksteady fought alongside the turtles against Supafly since they are predominately the chief henchmen for Shredder. For the purposes of the story, it made sense for Supafly to have a mutant family as opposed to just being a mutate form of Baxter.

I loved seeing them as proper teenagers and it was a great touch to voice them as teenagers. The turtles are all supposed to be like 15, so them wanting to watch movies, stay out late, experience high school, and chase girls was all on point character-wise.

The one change that caught me off guard was Splinter, and I'm not sure how that will work with Shredder. In the cartoon, Splinter and Shredder were rivals. Shredder chased Splinter to NYC, and that's where Splinter found the turtles and was mutated into a rat. That why Splinter knew martial arts to teach the turtles, and that's why Shredder and Splinter have this vendetta that drives a lot of their interactions. I think story is slightly different in the comics (i.e., Splinter is the pet rat of the master that Shredder fights), but the essence is the same. Making Shredder some kind of a mercenary is a weird take.

That being said, I really did enjoy Splinter's storyline and how they portrayed him though. Jackie Chan was a perfect casting.

I am not about to call this a "great" movie by any stretch, but it was really fun and entertaining. Solidly a "good" movie. I loved the way it was drawn as well. Between this, Puss in Boots, and Into the Spiderverse, I love the way they are doing these animated movies now.

"Proper teenagers"

Well said, and true, they got the teenage part down perfect!

Took my 10 and 12 year old boys yesterday and we all enjoyed it. I liked the call backs but am also not as avid a fan to where any changes bother me. I would definitely watch the sequel.

I liked the Reznor/Ross score. It definitely has some NIN vibes in there. Reminded me a bit of John Wick and into the Spiderverse, too.

The soundtrack itself is pretty cool.

That was 150% better than I expected. Kids all loved it, Mrs and I loved it just as much. Killer soundtrack and score, great cast, and I really appreciated the different animation style. Tons of laughs and a nice message. One of the best times I've had with my kids at the movies in a while!
