WTF did I just watch?! Looks like some crazy stuff.
Look at all these stars:
Tom Hanks, Scarlett Johansson, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Stephen Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Jake Ryan, Tony Revolori, and Jeff Goldblum.
When I was a kid, you had to have a movie like "Cannonball Run" to get an ensemble cast like that together.
From the looks of this trailer, I think I may end up liking CR more.

It looks awesome... have you never seen a Wes Anderson movie? This is par for the course for him including the cast.

He's not for everyone though, so if you like Cannonball Run then he may not be your cup of tea.

I like most of his fare, although the French Dispatch was rough to sit through for me.

Regardless of how you feel about his movies (I personally really like them), WA is pretty well liked and well respected by the actors that he typically works with. Which is why so many of them come back and take roles for a lot less money than they may typically go for.

And (again) regardless of how you feel about his movies, they are different and probably a good change of pace and breath of fresh air for actors to work in.

Pretty funny to join the thread to say you find Wes Anderson movies annoying, and then proceed to link a Family Guy video.

Wes Anderson is an automatic yes for me. He's not for everyone like previously mentioned - but the dry humor, and pretty colors always get me.

Because it's a parody of Wes Anderson movies.

Love Wes Anderson, dude made Voldemort and Flash Thompson into one of the best comedy duos of all time. OP needs to do himself a favor and start celebrating his entire catalog.

Weak parody , the SNL one and the one Anderson did of himself were better.

I feel like his movies are made exclusively for wacky hipsters who just can't stand anything that would appeal to normal, larger audiences.

Except for the fact that the Rotten Tomatoes audience scores for the vast majority of his movies are in the 80s, major studios have continued to fund him going on 30 years now (thus, his movies have proved financially appealing, garnering a broad enough audience), and he consistently lands the biggest movie stars on the planet, and tons of them, sure, "normal" audiences don't love him...

Critic / Audience

75% / 76% = The French Dispatch
90% / 87% = Isle of Dogs
92% / 86% = The Grand Budapest Hotel
93% / 86% = Moonrise Kingdom
93% / 85% = Fantastic Mr. Fox
69% / 78% = The Darjeeling Limited
57% / 82% = The Life Aquatic
81% / 89% = The Royal Tenenbaums
90% / 91% = Rushmore
85% / 79% = Bottle Rocket

[Is shown Wes Anderson's entire catalogue.]

"Yeah, well, that's too original!"

Yeah this oftentimes how it comes off to me as well. And I wouldn't even count myself as a huge Anderson fan either (I like some of his stuff just fine and others aren't necessarily my fav)

He's my 66 year old FIL's favorite director, and he's the furthest thing from a hipster.

The only Wes Anderson movie I ever watched was part of Isle of Dogs. (Just looked up his filmography & found out he made it)

I don't think you should stereotype Cannonball Run fans, that movie is a mother(*&# classic. I only mentioned it because of its ensemble cast. Despite the gross generalization, you're right though, I don't think he's for me. More of an action/sci-fi/western/gangster/comedy type. Musicals, romcoms, arsty-fartsy stuff & to a lesser extent horror are stuff I typically don't bother watching.

Wes Anderson is one of the greatest artists this state has produced. If you compile a list of best film directors from Texas, the list begins Linklater, Anderson. Or vice versa. Either way is correct.

Wes Anderson films are different and polarizing, I get that. You're either in or you're out, I'm 100% in for this. He's created his own genre, a Wes Anderson movie can only be like another Wes Anderson movie. Ever since I saw Rushmore back in college I've been a fan. I'll keep coming back, nothing else like his films.

Robert Rodriguez is the greatest director from Texas because he convinced Salma Hayek to take her clothes off in Desperado.

I like Wes Anderson movies but isn't Cannonball Run EVERYONE'S cup of tea? Who doesn't love Burt Reynolds, Dom Delouise, Roger Moore, Jackie Chan, Jaws, Mel Tillis, Sammy Davis Jr and Dean Martin?

Surprised to learn people didn't like The French Dispatch. I thought it was brilliant and on par with his other work.

In any case Asteroid City looks incredible. But is there really no Bill Murray? He's the alien right?

Hold up - regardless of your opinions on this movie what's with the Cannonball Run hate. That movie is a gem.

Just watched the trailer again, and man this really does look phenomenal. I love Wes Anderson, I love sci-fi, I love desert-set movies, I love a good mid-century aesthetic, and I love this cast.

Somehow, this summer keeps getting better and better.

Judging by who's in the cast but not in the trailer, any of Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, and Jeff Goldblum could be aliens. Regardless, it'll be fun to see who they all end up playing.
