Surprised to learn people didn't like The French Dispatch. I thought it was brilliant and on par with his other work.

In any case Asteroid City looks incredible. But is there really no Bill Murray? He's the alien right?

Just watched the trailer again, and man this really does look phenomenal. I love Wes Anderson, I love sci-fi, I love desert-set movies, I love a good mid-century aesthetic, and I love this cast.

Somehow, this summer keeps getting better and better.

Judging by who's in the cast but not in the trailer, any of Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, and Jeff Goldblum could be aliens. Regardless, it'll be fun to see who they all end up playing.
Gotta be Goldblum, right?

I didn't dislike it, but it wasn't top tier like my favorites. I probably need to watch that one again.

My top 5:
1) The Grand Budapest Hotel
2) The Royal Tenenbaums
3) Rushmore
4) Fantastic Mr. Fox
5) Bottle Rocket

The Royal Tenenbaums was my favorite for a long time but every time I watch The Grand Budapest Hotel it just gets better for me. I haven't watched Moonrise Kingdom or The Darjeeling Limited in a while, I need to watch those again.

It would shock me if Bill Murray doesn't make an appearance, maybe he shows up but is uncredited?

Regardless of how you feel about his movies (I personally really like them), WA is pretty well liked and well respected by the actors that he typically works with. Which is why so many of them come back and take roles for a lot less money than they may typically go for.

And (again) regardless of how you feel about his movies, they are different and probably a good change of pace and breath of fresh air for actors to work in.

I don't think the audience cares how much the actors in a movie enjoyed working on it...

Funny, you 8 and 9 are the only ones I have seen all the way through. I have seen some of Royal Tenenbaums though.

I liked Bottle Rocket a lot. Darjeeling Limited was good but I don't remember much.

Well, that was really more of a point of how WA continues to pull in ensemble casts. Folks enjoy being in his movies, so they keep coming back, plus additional big names are drawn to it.

But I also think very often in movies you can tell when folks are having fun and when they are not, and sometimes it plays a huge difference in the quality of the movies.

To be fair, I have Darjeeling and Bottle Rocket rated as like 85/100s. Very high floor for Wes Anderson for me. Tenenbaums is hands down my favorite though.

Maybe I was just in a weird mood or something, but I found The French Dispatch to be incredibly boring, and not at all funny, charming, or compelling. Honestly, I couldn't wait for it to end. I probably need to give it another shot, though.

I don't want to encourage someone to rewatch something they didn't like but I do think the whole thing plays better when you expect the structure he's working.

"Cannonball Run" is fun, but for those of us a bit older, the standard is "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" with its all star cast.

I feel like his movies are made exclusively for wacky hipsters who just can't stand anything that would appeal to normal, larger audiences.

I grew up in the middle of a cotton field in Wall, TX and am as red ass as it gets and I freaking love Wes Anderson.

I also enjoy Cannon Ball Run.

I also like IPAs, cheap whiskey, brisket, .99 cheeseburgers from McDs, charcuterie, wine, broadway musicals, and vote Republican. People can be complicated.

All star cast movies are some of the worst I have ever seen. Anybody here see Babylon? What a POS that was. How about New Years Eve? The worst! These were walk out of the theater in the first15 minutes bad. Bullet Train was another stinker. Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt just must not give a damn anymore.

I can't believe anybody liked The Royal Tannebalms. But I must say I did like The Life Aquatic with Steve Izzuzu.

My prediction for Asteroid City? Pain.

If you want to see a great all star cast movie, rewatch Pulp Fiction and It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World.

It's nuts the lengths Anderson went to in order to bring this whole thing to life, and I cannot wait. Reminder that it's out this weekend...

The Royal Tenenbaums was Anderson's best. The cast was amazing and it had by far the best plot of any movie he's written. His movies are usually fun and cutesy but don't make me feel much, but RT takes me through the full range of emotions.

I have two younger cousins in undergrad at A&M right now and I can say confidently that if you throw in a borrowed/unpaid for (HBO) Max subscription and around $150 in random ass crypto earnings, you've just described the current Gen Z Aggie.

Had a ticket to see this yesterday on the west side, got to the theater 30 minutes early, and the parking garage was so insane that I missed my showing. Ended up instead buying a last-minute ticket to Past Lives (which is incredible).

Asteroid City is in limited release right now (just a few theaters in LA and NY), but goes wide on Thursday, including our Alamo Drafthouse, which is downtown, a much cooler location, and closer to my place. So I just looked at getting tickets there for later this week and nearly every showing through Sunday is *already* sold out. As in eight showings a day, for four straight days, only a handful of crappy seats left.

This is crazy.

But also great to see it already performing so well, at least locally.
