But I've had a couple of nice encounters with RC, who is very cool.
Was anyone here old enough to go to Dave Elmendorf's sports bar in Houston? It was Cahill's on Durham when I knew it. Later became Luke's Icehouse.

Only RC Slocum memory was at the old Wings N More when he was having a boys night out with the guys.

Wooten would be awesome to just jam with even if he's miles ahead of you. He's such a bada$$. That's pretty cool.

Hung out with Hootie & The Blowfish after a small show in Houston about 20 years ago. After the show, the place pretty much cleared out. Me and my buddy decided to hang around for a while and they came over and bought us some beers and we hung out for about an hour. Really cool, friendly dudes.

Also hung out with Brett Hull on the American Airlines Center balcony after they retired Mike Modano's jersey several years ago. He was hammered but really friendly.

Not super famous but Carter Beauford and Victor Wooten when I was in high school. Not at the same time but at the same convention.

Victor Wooten was teaching a clinic and a friend and I stayed back to ask some questions. We ended up jammin' with him for a solid 2 hours and he didn't care that he was lightyears beyond our skills.

Carter Beauford walked into a sound proof cymbal test room while I was drumming and trying out some new cymbals I had no chance of affording. He's one of my top 2-3 favorite drummers and who I model my play style after the most, so it was definitely a case of meeting your hero at that age. He was extremely down to Earth and approachable.
Victor Wooten is arguably the best bassist on planet earth. What a great story.

ETA: For those unfamiliar, a small sampling:

*The Carter story is also really cool.

Andie MacDowell ... 1997 at the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam. Stunning in person. Super sweet smile. Smoke show,

Speaker of the House Tip O'Neil ... 1989 at an Atlantic City casino (he was playing craps... his gofer / security was nearby keeping an eye out for the bad guys).

Barbara Bush at the MSC.

George W. Bush at Globe Life Field while he was governor.

Dolly Parton is the coolest person I have ever met.

I ended up texting Know Your Enemy just before because I was sitting in Linda Perry's studio (a converted home in Thousand Oaks) waiting for Dolly to get there and was kinda in disbelief. Ended up meeting Linda Perry and Sara Gilbert that day too. They were also really nice.

I talked with Gene Simmons for about 45 minutes. Nice guy.
He was in line right in front of me at a grocery store in Vegas. He was trying very hard not to be noticed, but of course he's impossible to miss. I pretended like I didn't know who he was.

You should have said "How are you, Mr. Klein?"
So use that fake name instead of the fake name we know him by?

guess id have to say Bush Sr and Barbara Bush

i worked at the Rec Center for a few years and if you were in early enough on a saturday he'd come in and ride the bike and read the paper.....he'd chat with us at the training desk a bit and always leave his gym bag back there.....

of course theres a few suits around while hes in there but there was never an issue and he'd always love it when students would approach him...

one time i was with a client in there and he was on the bikes near us and my client recognized him....i kept encouraging her to go over and say hi cause he'd love to chat with her but she was too nervous....
My friend and I met the old man in the weight room at the Rec once. We chatted for just a minute, and he was very kind. Gave me a pat on the back as we walked off.

Had beers with Zach Galifinakis once in Houston after one of his shows. He's a nice guy but the exact opposite of his on screen persona. Really really quiet

Cody Canada is a genuinely nice guy. Just a sweetheart of a dude.

Max Stalling is the nicest Aggie i've ever met. Not super famous but amazingly down to earth.

By far the most surprising and overall nicest celebrity i've ever met was Vinnie Paul. Dude looked super intimidating and always had 2 busty gals with him at all times. We sat next to him at the Stars games quite a bit and over time chatted here and there. One time we were in the 2nd story bar at the AAC and these two metal head dudes came over and we're freaking out and calling him a God and Vinnie was super nice to them. they left… and then came back with shots. Which nobody wanted. So he thanked them and i think he actually threw his shot away when they weren't looking. My brother turned to him after they left and said "remind me to never get famous.". VP just looked at him and said "you have no F-ing idea". From that point he always loved my brother and loved seeing him.

I shared a story on here one time when i was in high school i went out on our home course and this old dude pulled up and asked if i minded if he joined. I said of course not and long story short by about hole 5 he started asking me about what i drove and I told him i loved my jeep and we talked about that for awhile. Said he used to race cars back in the old days. I got home and told my dad and he kind of gave me a laugh and said "you met Mr Shelby.". We continued to play here and there until i graduated and came to CS. We lost touch after that. I considered him somewhat of a friend and he was an amazing dude

I rode in an elevator with Frank Thomas when I was in 6th grade. He was enormous....and upset because someone had stolen his belt out of his locker at Jacob's Field that afternoon.

I shook Big Papi's hand and patted Eddie Vedder on his shoulder as he walked by.....both at Wrigley Field during G5 of the 2016 WS.

I have a whole slew of other sports encounters but most were either at card shows or when I was a kid trying to hawk autographs at team hotels.

Terry Bradshaw was awesome. Met him at an event last year and got to speak with him for a while.

Drew Barrymore was super nice and down to earth

A ton of Texas folks have probably crossed paths with him, but getting to spend a couple hours around a table listening to stories from Ray Benson was a fun time.

I can tell you who wasn't the coolest guy I've ever met.

Bill Romanowski. 1991 I was invited to attend the Seahawks vs. the 49'ers at the Kingdome in Seattle with a group of other high school football players. I wore an A&M t-shirt in hopes of getting Jacob Green's attention.

Anyway, we were allowed out on the field/sideline during pregame to meet players and coaches from both teams. Romanowski was running backwards, slammed in to me, and we both went down. He jumps up and waves a clenched fist in my face as yells watch where you're f'ing going ass hole. One of the 49'ers assistant coaches ran up and helped me up and slapped me on the back and said "sorry kid".

Shortly after, I did get to meet Jacob Green, who was cool for certain. He asked me if I was going to A&M and made some small talk. I told him I was having an awesome day meetings so many pro players, including him and Jerry Rice and I even got cussed out by Romanowski. Green replied "yeah, Jerry's cool, Bill's kind of a dick".

Here's my story about not meeting someone. We're staying at the hotel by the Superdome in NOLA and in the elevator going down. Elevator is pretty crowded, including one big Hispanic dude. We stop on a floor and the door opens and there's Joe Theisman and his wife/girlfriend/whatever. Joe says something like "got room for us" as he starts to walk on the elevator. Just then, the big Hispanic guy puts his hand right in Theisman's chest, pushes back off the elevator and says "sorry Joe, we're Cowboy fans on this elevator." Doors close with Theisman staring in disbelief.

I don't know who that dude was but he gave me a memory for life.

Not doubting your story but that doesn't really match up with the Vinnie Paul I knew. Can't say that I ever saw either of the Abbott brothers turn down a shot. And in my experience Vinnie loved to be noticed out in public. He always had his band gear on whether it was Pantera, Damageplan, or Hellyeah which I thought was a bit lame. And I witnessed his parading back and forth through the Ozzfest crowd one year when Pantera wasn't playing. But in fairness I will say that he was always cool with me or anyone else I saw approach him. One minor incident in the Icehouse at Starplex where he was a bit standoffish but he looked tired and a bit drunk so I will cut him some slack on that. When Pantera wasn't on tour I used to bump into Dime & Vinnie all the time.

it was one of those things where we would both play at the same time and whenever that happened we would kind of just join up. it was an odd time for most because i'd be out there at about 6 on a weekday because i didn't like crowds and i think he was out there because he didn't want to be bothered by people just whipping his ass about cars and such.

it's probably why he liked me because i was a 17 year old kid who really didn't know who he was and honestly didn't really care about that part.

but he was a huge Stars fan and i think that's where he would go to get away and kind of have a normal life. and these kids did come up on him while we were watching the game. may have been and off day but i swear to you it happened

Oh yeah, like I said I am not doubting your story. Everyone has an off day now & then.

Dime was an absolute sweetheart. One time I was hanging out in the concourse of Reunion Arena waiting on a friend in the restroom after a ZZ Top show. I see this little dude with a pink goatee walking by himself and I instinctively yelled "DIME!" before I realized. He stopped dead in his tracks and marched over to me with his hand out to shake my hand. We chatted briefly about the show and he went on his way. He could have easily just waved and kept walking but he went out of his way to say hello and give me a moment of his time. That's just the way he was.

Didn't talk to him but I passed Vinnie in Love Field once and he was decked out head to toe in his Vinnie attire. Hard to miss.

Was at DFW maybe 12 years ago... early morning, eating breakfast at a small food court... up walks Vince Neil with a rolling Louis Vittton bag in tow. He ordered McD.

I am a 80s hair metal fan. Thought it was cool I got to see one of my favorites.

I debated whether to walk up and say "howdy". ... was not sure if he's be ticked or okay with it.

When saw he was done eating, I talked with him for a min. and shook his hand. Seemed like a good dude.

Rock on. \m/

The friend I was with was teaching me bass and I was teaching him drums, so I was still super green. When we walked up to him after the clinic the first thing he does is turn to my friend, who already had his bass over his shoulder ready to ask some advice, and says "dude, awesome guitar, can I play it? Here, you play mine."

I'm not sure my friend ever got to ask what he wanted to.

YES. I worked for the Stars first job out of college and interacted with him many times in the Jack Daniels club at AAC. Not to the level of Know Your Enemy, but Vinnie was cool as hell and friendly as all get out. RIP.

lol. I have a mutual friend that was there with him that told me the story years ago. They saw O.J. in a hotel bar in Dallas and the next thing you know O.J. comes over to their table and asks to hang out with them. Then they proceeded to kick it for like two hours. My buddy said it was as surreal as it gets.

Pre. Ran into her in a Palo Alto movie theater. Was there with bodyguards and publicist. Around tomb raider time. Noticed group of about 5 of us staring at her. Walks over and chats with us for about 15 minutes. Asked where we were from, if we liked her movie etc. Super cool and down to earth. Gave us all signed Tomb Raider buttons. She's super petite.

I did a painting my senior year and entered into a university-wide art contest at the MSC. I got second place and it was on exhibit for the semester. Then I got a call that they wanted to put it in the university president's home for a full year. In that timeframe we I graduated but when it was time to pick it up, they had a small reception for me at the president's home. I got to hang out with Robert Gates, his wife and the dean of my college for an hour or so. Really polished guy and seemed genuinely interested in me and the inspiration behind my painting.

I was pretty young…my mom, my brother, and me were on a flight to or from Midland and George W. Bush and his daughters were onboard. His girls were acting up and he tapped my mom on the shoulder and said how do you get them to be so good (pointing to me and my brother). After he became president I routinely told my parents that I had the blessing of the president of the United States and was therefore untouchable.
