Time travel. Since my first day on the job as a Starfleet captain I swore I'd never let myself get caught in one of these godforsaken paradoxes - the future is the past, the past is the future, it all gives me a headache.[/Janeway]

Right, M'Bega's comment about her being alone then the events of the episode just puts her back emotionally where she was at the start.

Like tos, this show is up and way down for me. TOs had higher highs…better overall characters, etc., imo, but pretty bad lows too. I mean…spock's brain !?
I really liked some of the episodes in s1. Some not so much.
Side note, i cant get over the freakin hairdos, so bad it is hilariously distracting. I cant say i have ever even noticed hairdos on tv shows bf, but my god. Spock has a dead skunk on his head, the captain has the worst elvis stack ever, uhura just sportin a boring fro-helmet, the chick that looks just like the chick from the expanse looks…just like the chick from the expanse…she aint no bo derek. Nurse chapel is hot, though did her s1/spock thing get blocked by her being gay or something? I cant remember. Anyway, she clearly doesnt own a brush, despite being able to print one along with a ham sammich if she wanted. The helm chick looks like every wanna be skater girl trying to rack up alphabet cred, its bizarre.
That said a lot of the characters are pretty good. The doctor is just such a charismatic guy, i think he may be my favorite. The transporter ghost daughter may be a bit out of place on a military ship, but is such an interesting philosophical plot line.
One of the cool things about tos was its vision of progressive meritocracy.
My biggest issue with this show is that the writers can't seem to help letting their modern 'woke' perversion of that ideology bleed through. Ship captains can't really effectively lead when their relationship is more like a freaking samalier (sp?) party host than military co. Quick input from trusted advisors followed by quick decisions that risk lives - that requires a different relationship.
Similarly, a bunch of smug, giggling idiots dont become military officers, and then go around stealing starships on a hunch.
At least when tos occasionally broke regs, they treated the decision with due respect and only avoided court martial by time warp or alien intervention or some *****
They jumped the shark and missed the required gravity and certainty required of such a decision, likely because the writers can't comprehend
whatever But s2e1 was just horrible.
And too many characters are just pudgy soy meat puppets. I want my heroes and sci fi military character stars to be fit, badass characters. Sorry if that is old fashioned.

One more thing - The Romulan said she arrived back in 1992. In the original series, the Eugenics Wars were in the 1990's. Apparently, something changed in the timeline and the wars didn't happen in the 90's, Earth has been "held back" and the augments are created later.
Strange New Worlds is in a different timeline than the original series.
That would mean ****ing commercialsLegal Custodian said:
Really enjoyed episode 3. Episode 1 was okay. Not a fan of episode 2. Need some more gorn but really enjoy some good monster of the week type episodes.
Really think cbs is missing an opportunity by not having this on cbs. I think it would do really well

another great, fun eipsode, and spock almost dropping an f-bomb.
i like how we are getting epsiodes about indivdiual characters instead of Team Enterprise vs the Universe.
Fringe? Self contained? Fringe eventually had an arc throughout the seasons, regardless of the episode plot. Sometimes it was a subplot moving it slowly along though.Saxsoon said:C@LAg said:

It feels like a step back considering where tv has gone for the last decade . . . But I love it? Kind of nice not to have everything be so serialized. I miss the days of network tv with overarching themes for the season but self contained episodes like Fringe
