Didn't one of the kids reference Joyce being 43 this season or did I imagine that?

If that's the case then she was born in 1944. She would've been 15 in that flashback and highschool age.

Derrick is the most realistic 1980s kid I've ever seen.

Holly is least realistic for me. Something about the actress just doesn't fit for some reason. And I'm really having a hard time with how old she's supposed to be. Wasn't she drinking out of a sippy cup in season 1? And now 4 years later she looks 13?

But Vecna's body was in the upside down right? That's where they go and get him in the finale of season 4

And, that last continuous scene is the best long scene since season 1 of True Detective.

I was way wrong about season five. It has been awesome so far with only a few small gripes.

I'm starting to think the Duffer Brothers are part of a hive mind where only one of them is sentinent. The other guy never says anything.

im having a hard time accepting that in what is probably the most anticipated final season of a series since Game of Thrones, that there is some stage play out there that would spoil the ending of the show for the vast majority of viewers. Nevertheless, guess im out.

I think you're really misinterpreting what has been said. the stage play has some background info on Vecna's journey to his current state. That's all i got of it.

Like many here, I have not seen the Broadway play, but it seems that when Henry became 001 with Dr. Brenner, he spent a short time in Dimension X looking for Dr. Brenner's father and that is when he encountered the "first shadow" (which I think we are led to believe is the Mind Flayer). In this encounter, Henry was physically changed, including his blood. Once he returned to "our world", he developed these powers. Dr. Brenner's experiments then shifted to the other kids who were literally injected with 001's blood. Conversely, the Mind Flayer already existed long before it's encounter with Henry but it was Henry, once banished to X by Eleven, that gave the shadow its shape, which we see in the later seasons. All the time that Henry spent in X eventually led him to become Vecna.

The Upside Down is a decaying version of Hawkins that is frozen in Nov 6, 1983. How Vecna gained access to here, that I haven't quite figured out?

I'm not doubting you on the veracity of any of that, but holy cow where did all that come from?! This broadway play that i'm just now hearing of? If so, and that's the only place all of that information has been relayed, then that's stupid and doing a disservice to their audience.

All that stuff is pretty much shown late in Strager Things 4. Some if it might have been brief, but it's there.

Henry wanders the wasteland where he slowly transforms into Verna. He sees demigorgons and stumbles upon the Mind Flayer. The only part that's new to me is the mention of Brenner's father.

This is one show where plot holes don't even really register with me. I watch it more for the 'vibe' than anything else and it's still probably one of my top 3-4 shows of all time.

Same with me. Even the slow moments of exposition I love, because it's from these great characters.

Uhh.. the part about him stumbling into a cave as a kid, finding some sort of mcguffin that transported him to dimension x which gave him his powers and altered his DNA.

Very convenient to throw in a stage play to create the exact character development you failed to provide in the actual series.

I love this show, but the stage play thing is dumb beyond measure.

The thing that bugs me is the retconning of Henry's age. He clearly couldn't have been in high school with Joyce and Hopper given what we learned in S4. He was 12 when he first killed his family.

Nevermind the fact that Joyce makes zero indication of knowing who Henry Creel is.

I hope they didn't bend over backwards to shoehorn in whatever plot points they're taking from the play.

You're having a midlife crisis. I know, because so am I. We like to believe the early 80's was not that long ago. But 1960 was so much closer to the early 80's than we are now.

Can you tell me exactly where in the TV show (what episode) they show Henry wandering into a cave and seeing demigorgons and the mindflayer? Because I did not see that on my rewatch, and the internet is telling me that's only in the stage play. If that was in a TV show episode, it must have been a three second flashback that zoomed right by me.

Henry described his origin to Eleven in the final episode of Stranger Things 4. In the flashback, he wandered a rocky wasteland with demigorgons and the Mind Flayer. So it wasn't a cave.

But personally, I don't feel like there's some big gap in my knowledge when I see Max hiding in a cave that Henry refuses to go into. I suspect that the fear she describes in him will be explained.

This shows what happens in the upside down after Eleven throws Henry there, but nothing in season four goes into the things that happened in high school with Henry, Joyce, etc. I assume we'll find out the relevant parts in the next few episodes.

I think the stage show is closer to the authorized graphic novels, they go into backstory of the characters like Brenner, Hopper, what Will did in the upside down for all that time, etc. They're canon, but they enhance the TV show rather than spoiling it.

Thanks guys!

Rewatching that clip above, I do remember that now. So Henry took that entity and formed the mindflayer, correct? At least that's the way I interpreted the scene in that clip. The entity/demon/supernatural force was there, henry/vecna just shaped and made it into the mindflayer. Eleven says "So that was you the whole time?", which in my mind implys that Henry was in control of the mindflayer, not working with it or anything.

I'm surprised they went with a story that inadvertently presents as "obviously gay Henry kidnaps, abuses, 'grooms' a small child, who coincidentally also grows up to gay".

Henry has a girlfriend who he kisses in the canon stage play. Not sure how obvious him being gay is. Unless you think he's banging demogorgons all night.

Look how gay he is here. Yikes.

Enough with the gay stuff already, Henry

Yes, because a gay high school kid would never deny his sexuality by having a girlfriend in an effort to fit in.

Finally caught up. Great start.

Time has not been kind to Dustin.

Mike finally grew into his nose.

Millie Bobbie Brown is just terrible at acting. Just dreadful.

I see a gay makeout session coming between Vecna and Will. They become the not so ambiguously gay duo and they battle against Once and Ocho.

Not sure if it was just growing up, or intentional, but Will isn't throwing off the major gay vibes he did in season 4. I really thought Robin's pep talk was about him coming out of the closet. Guess it kinda was. When he makes out with Vecna, it will all become clear.

Such a minor thing, but I've loved the shots of Steve working the clutch and shifter on his beloved Bimmer. I guess I just miss a good manual transmission.
