I'm late to the party. My son finally decided he wanted to watch Stranger Things over Christmas. I tried to get him to watch it three or four years ago, but he found it really scary (my whole family is lame when it comes to "scary" movies. I blame my wife). He wanted to give it a second chance since all his friends were talking about the final season at school. We ended up watching a couple of episodes every week for the last couple of months. Even though I end up not watching the final until a few months after everyone else, it ended up being a lot of fun watching it with him. At one point somewhere in the middle of season three, he asked where the parents are and I had to explain it was the 80s. Kids raised themselves.
I felt like the final season was a step down from season four (which is up there with season one for me), but it was still really good. The last episode drug on longer than it needed to be, but it was great up until they finally destroyed the upside down. All in all, a top 10 series for me. Maybe even top 5, and watching it with my son will go down as one the highlights of my life. He really got into it. Maybe in a couple of years, I'll be able to convince my daughter to watch it.
Hot take, Nancy Wheeler was more of a badass than Eleven. She will go down as one of the great female action heroes. I loved her transition from high school nerd girl to Ripley.
