I'm skeptical, given that it's the Duffners.

While they're certainly drawing from MK Ultra - Mockingbird military industrial complex lore, full of very real and often tragic recent history, the best entertainment / military intel nexus Disclosure figure is by far Spielberg, very well detailed by Psyop Cinema.

well part 2 took quite the nosedive. Holly and Max were the stars of the last few episodes. The folks that mentioned the sunk time in this series are 100% correct. LOTS of viewers would tune this crap out if this was early on in the show.

- Temu Uma Thurman won't shut up
- Show is trying way too hard to incorporate every single nostalgic dramatic scene from other films/shows over the last 40 years for 80s kids (Nancy with the exact Rambo III look, Demodogs copying Jurassic Park kitchen scene)
- Will LGBTQLMNOP mafia come out against this show for stereotyping negative, abusive relationships between Vecna/Will and Robin/Candy-striper?
- Sister of Lucas is surprisingly not the worst member of the cast this season
- So much brooding
- Stealing morphine and having a kid bake it into a pie to sedate an entire family is mega-horrorshow stuff, just completely dark
- Them Eggos been giving Elle a fat ass... A moment on the lips, a lifetime on the hips
- Lt. Akers could definitely be a rage virus zombie in 28 Days Later, superb makeup job... Makeup Emmy, give it to them
- Fat shaming/body acceptance faux pas with the Turnbow kid - in an effort to be completely and overly 80s, Stranger Things has gone with the token fatty trope
- Having an Indian named Kali is too just obvious that she's gonna do something bad

Now for the good. I'm liking the way that physics and wormhole play into this. At the end of Season 4 it was clear the Elle sent One packing to another dimension. Elle's mistake when she was remote viewing in Season 1 that opened the connection to Dimension X (The Abyss is D&D cringe nonsense) makes more sense now. I guess One knew or hoped Papa would attempt to find him and laid out the Demogorgon bait for Elle to find so a door via the Upside Down made it possible to get back into this world. But it looks like there is more to the story coming.

TLDR; The scifi aspects of this show are more interesting than the unnecessary social aspects literally no one asked for.

if you think the D&D references are cringe, how do you even like this show? It's been a central theme to the entire series.

All of the 80s pop culture references just add to the theory that this is an imaginary D&D game they're making up in the basement.

I bet they filmed the finale when they were still kids and the end will be them sitting around the table in Mike's basement finishing the D&D campaign.

That'd be somewhat cool, but you're giving the Duffer Brothers waaay too much credit for foresight and planning, which the show itself has clearly shown has been lacking.

They probably have enough unused footage to just show them playing at the end with a little voice over. I also think they could accomplish something similar by just sending them back in time after defeating Henry and closing the portal.

Hey ChatGPT, write a unifying theory for how the upside down, Hawkins and the place 11 sent 1 to can all be interconnected. Be bold, think big. Connect popular period cinema so its intertwined with the plot to help explain the concepts requiring suspension of disbelief. By contractual obligation with Netflix, write in a LGBTQueer sideplot but tie it back into the falling action of Stranger Things.

- The Duffer Brothers using AI to write the Season 5 pitch, probably.

I am really excited for the Pitch Meeting for season 5.

Why wouldn't they just use Ocho to create a distraction instead of shooting up the army base?

Unclear.

Getting a BMW with some radio locator in it into the upside down sounds difficult and really dangerous.

Actually it will be super easy. Barely an inconvenience.

Such a shame. I will not be watching the 2 episodes that dropped Christmas, or finishing the series. We knew, we knew he didn't like girls. There was no need to ruin the show with the LGBTQ+# agenda etc.

Plot twist: The Abyss isn't connected through the upside down to Hawkins. Vecna, the entire alternate universe, and bridge are all located inside Mikes giant nose.

well I'm not much one for conspiracy theories, but I read one today that was nutso about Will's speech that would be the greatest swerve in tv history..

basically being that Vecna said Will would be his spy "one last time" and that the "time" hadn't ended yet, meaning Vecna was controlling Will while he gave his speech about being gay in order to get them all to trust him.

In his coming out speech, Will mentions that he and his friends like "riding our bikes to Melvald's for malted milkshakes" as well as "getting lost in the woods."

Somebody who knows the source material way better than me has pointed out that Melvald's is the general store that Joyce used to work out and that they aren't selling "malted milkshakes" there, which something from the 50s.

However, in "The First Shadow" play, Henry Creel goes to Melvald's when it's a diner, when they definitely would have been selling said milkshakes.

Second, Will likes getting lost in the woods? He was terrorized by getting lost in the woods and kidnapped by a demogorgon. The woods are not his friend.

Probably just a nod to the play, but at least interesting to think about.

***MAJOR SPOILERS IN MY POST. DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THROUGH VOLUME 2***

Finally made it through the Christmas Vol. 2 episodes and a few thoughts:

Episode 5:
- I happen to like Derek, whether he is "Dipsh*t" or "Delightful," he plays the 80s kid quite well.
- The tapping back into the hive mind to try to stab Vecna with his own sword was the next natural progression for Will, imo. It was a badass moment in S5E4 when he killed the Demagorgons. So this "Shock Jock" scene had a nice payoff of saving Max.
- The big thing in this episode for me was the news of why Dr. Kay wants Eleven so bad as Kali reveals they were using her blood to impregnate women to try to recreate another Henry or Eleven. A lot of us were upset that this Broadway play that very few have access to or means of watching was holding a critical plot point. And this kind of resolves that in a small, roundabout way?
- The other thing was Dustin finding Brenner's journals and writings and how it clearly and elegantly lays out what both this sphere and The Upside Down are. It is my understanding that Dustin and the core group of kids are round 17 at this point. Dustin seems to have quick and innate understanding of advanced theoretical physics. Also, Brenner ran MKUltra and his experiments for, what, 30 years? So I guess it is plausible that after such a long period of time, one would gain more understanding of The Upside Down. But if he is a research scientist specializing in psychology and mind control, how much of an understanding of Einstein's General Theory of Relativity are we expecting him to have? The discovery of a wormhole would be a much bigger breakthrough in science than anything he has managed to find thus far.
- Why is Nancy shooting at something she doesn't know or at least hypothesize on the results? Just "yeah, I have a gun"

Episode 6:
- Nancy and Jonathan are caught in a room where everything above them is melting. Yet somehow they are not. No heat, no burns. So they're alive because plot.
- Weird breakup for the two but they were an odd couple to begin with. Plus, they're secondary characters in my book and I don't really care for their relationship either way.
- I'm glad that Dustin and Steve reconcile. This is the only relationship I care about. (Side Note: I am okay if everyone else dies. But if they kill Steve or Dustin...)
- The main plot point for me in this episode is the traumatic memory of Henry that Holly and Max use to escape Henry's mind. This seems to be a major turning point in Henry's life. I find it interesting that Max moves on once he starts bludgeoning the guy but Holly is the one that sticks around and see Henry open the briefcase. [See final bullet points for what I think this could mean].
- Erica is a great character and clearly the second smartest kid in the show after Dustin. All her lines are awesome and she deserves more screen time.
- Lucas, Robin, and Vickie hiding from the Demodogs i a very clear nod to Jurassic Park. But that movie came out in 1993. Regardless, I enjoyed the scene.
- Karen Wheeler is also a badass. Trying to defeat a Demoagorgon with a wine bottle and then detonating a laundry machine with an oxygen tank, the woman has quite a pair of stones.
- Max's speech to Holly as they are about to escape was way more infuriating to me than Will's coming out party. Like the exit is right there and you've been stuck there for two years. How are you waiting? That being said, she did have to psych Holly up knowing that she wasn't really going to safety.

Episode 7:
- I thought Max was blinded? And, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but she wouldn't know that Hopper escaped Russia, much less is alive, right? Or did her fateful encounter with Vecna happen after that?
- Holly is essentially saved by Vecna. He telekinetically (?) brings her back to the Abyss, but without his intervention, she surely crashes and dies.
- I like how Steve is the one to come up with the final plan. He is usually a passenger in the plans, but he has a very formative role in this one. Him acknowledging Dustin's hurt and the two admitting they're best friends was a sweet moment.
- Holly waking up in Henry's home and beaten into submission was a scene. Derek keeping quiet was predictable but still disappointing. His cowardice made me like him a little less.
- Will's coming out party was expected. His sexuality has been hinted at since S1. (Hopper straight up asks Joyce if Will is gay, trying to see if his disappearance could be a hate crime. "He's missing is what he is" is her reply.) The speech was a tad long with him citing every possible thing he has in common with his friends. But if we put it in the context of the 80s, it must have been that much harder to come out of the closet so I understand the rambling. It was also like 4 mins in a 60 min episode. So I think the hate has been a tad overblown. Robin's relationship with Vickie, on the other hand, has been more obnoxious.
- The crucial plot point for me in this episode is when Dustin is explaining what The Upside Down and the Abyss actually are. It starts to tie some of the larger plot points across seasons together. When Eleven banishes Henry in the Rainbow Room, he is sent to Dimension X (which we are now apparently calling The Abyss to keep with the D&D theming). By his own admission, he becomes an "explorer" and wanders throughout this world. I think it's the S4 finale where we see him encounter the Demodogs and eventually give shape to the Mind Flayer. It is still my understanding that the Mind Flayer was always there, but it was Henry and his affinity for spiders that gave the MInd Flayer it's shape. Henry likely would have been trapped in the Abyss had Brenner not forced Eleven to try to find him. Her ability to locate him is what allowed him be able to ultimately leave the Abyss.
- Holly looks like she suffered a concussion or at least some sort of head injury in the final scene. Henry takes control of the kids to set up the finale! I hate the spacing out of these episodes

Speculation/Predictions/Final Thoughts:
- In Brad Pitt's voice: What's in the box (aka briefcase)?" I take it that the guy with the briefcase is somehow a former colleague of, worker for, or a Russian spy to Dr. Brenner. Not sure how but I think he is somehow connected to Brenner and the briefcase is important to him. Maybe the exotic matter matter reminding me of the God Particle in the show Dark (absolutely phenomenal show btw) is clouding my thinking a bit, but could that briefcase work as some sort of machine that allows the user to travel to the Abyss? My thinking is this is how Henry first gets on Brenner's radar and that is why the cave is such a scary point for him, it is when this whole fiasco started for him.
- Also, since Will says that Vecna uses the darkest parts of you to seed doubt, could this be how the core group defeats him?
- Going back to the what I think the crucial plot point of S5E7, Eleven searching for Henry at the behest of Brenner is what allowed Henry to find a way out of the Abyss. Why he keeps returning to the Abyss and ultimately sets up his his "vessel lair", or whatever the internet is calling it, is an intriguing question. They have made a point to say that Henry is still in Vecna. That deep down, under everything, Henry is still human. Which, to me, maintains the door open that the true character pulling all the strings is the Mind Flayer. Could all this be a red herring to throw us off the scent, maybe?! But that is why I keep watching. I want to see how the story.
- I think Eleven will kill Kali. Although, I think the story would be better served if Eleven's story ended with some sort of heroic sacrifice to save the core group who first saved her in S1. I would be disappointed if everyone makes it out alive at the end. Like I said before, I only care about Steve and Dustin. Save that bromance, everyone else is dispensable in my eyes lol Someone important needs to die and not just some secondary character like Eddie, as much as I liked him.
- This has been a top 10 show for me. I wish it hadn't taken 10 years to make 40 some odd episodes but I digress. The subtle and not-so-subtle nods to the 80s pop culture, movies/entertainment, D&D, clothing, etc. is what made me love this show in the first place. Are there plot holes? Sure. Does Joyce wear too much makeup? Probably. Does Robin look like she has aged 10 years since S3? Maybe. I can overlook all this as the overarching story throughout the seasons has been refreshing.
- Last point: No show will ever crash as badly as Game of Thrones did.

Will being gay is not the issue. It's been pretty obvious he's gay since at least the very beginning of Season 3. That was 20+ episodes ago. Even last year with him obviously having unrequited feelings for Mike isn't the issue. Everyone alive has had a crush on a person (male or female) who you wished was more than a friend.

the issue is making it into this big dumb speech that somehow needed to be said before they take an upside down joy ride to the Abyss where it seems like in normal circumstances, just about everyone outside of Hopper, 11, Will, 8 and Nancy would probably die in the first 5 minutes.

Even worse, as I said last night, they didn't even SHOW his worst fear from Vecna that everyone would reject him if they found out what he was. Because unless you have Vecna scare you to death, how dumb are you to think that anyone would reject you over such a small thing after all that most of you've been through together. Are you worried that Murray and Erica aren't going to be your pals anymore?

No harm in the grand scheme of things, anymore than girl power in Endgame, as long as being gay isn't the way to beat Vecna in the end. Maybe Will tongue kisses him and #8 makes Henry think it's actually a black widow spider kissing him and while he's distracted, 11 rips his head off. Otherwise, I hope that's the end of it.

I'm late to the party, but this was my only real irritation with the episode. The "coming out" party. I GUARANTEE all his buddies already had a pretty good idea he was gay. I was waiting for everyone to say "we know!" and move on.

One of my best friends from elementary thru highschool was gay. We all knew it, even in elementary school despite his denials. And this was during the second half of the 80s. When he did finally "come out" to me and my friends senior year of highschool, our exact words were "it's about time!!!" And because we were REAL friends, it made zero different to how we saw him, just like it would likely make zero difference to Will's lifelong friends. It was all just cringe and unnecessary and unrealistic.
YNWA.2013
How long do you want to ignore this user?
But your friend still had to do it, right? You all responded with "it's about time" bc you were waiting for him to tell you. I think Will's friends already knew too. As with any personal truths, the person has to come out with it on their terms. I would argue it was necessary for Will to do it and for him to do it in his own way. Now was it also cringe and a tad long-winded? Sure. Bc I too was waiting for Dustin or someone to say "We know. We all know. Doesn't change a thing for us. You're still Will the Wise and we are still going to kick some Vecna ass!"

I feel like i'm the only one with the dissenting opinion about Erika. I get the like for her, I like her too. But it goes back to my main point about the writers bringing in too many characters.

This is all fantasy of course, but even in the logical rules of this fantasy world, the idea that the world is about to end as we know it but the only people who are doing anything about it is a group of teenagers and a few misfit adults? That's just laughable.

I think the show would have been better served to have the US military trying to fight against Vecna (heck, maybe they don't even know specifically about Vecna, but they're still trying to solve this problem). However, the only people who really know the key to stopping vecna and all of this is the small group of kids plus Hopper and Joyce that we were introduced to in Season 1 (heck, I'll even throw max in there since she has become truly integral to the group). But no one will listen to them, so they have to do it on their own secretly. THAT would be a real ode to how 80's movies played out. And it would be a nice payoff and tribute to the group of characters that made people fall in love with this show, rather than adding so-and-so's sister to the group, plus so-and-so's girlfriend, and so-and-so's teacher, blah, blah, blah.

I think the show just fell into too much fan service this season. They lost touch with their roots. Hell, at this point I won't be surprised to see Argyle cruising up in his van smoking Purple Palm Tree Delight at the last minute to save the day.
