So, anyone else watched it yet?

Got through two episodes so far. Read the books so long ago, can't remember what is true to the books and what isn't.

Good so far, and damn Yennifer is smoking hot.

Some posters have posted about it on the Season 2 thread.

I've been struggling to get back into it.

Oh, did they get a new actress for this season?

It's probably better to bring the conversation over here, but this series is essentially dead in the water at this point. I don't know if it is the writing and the convoluted story-telling that has taken place over the first couple of seasons, or just the time in between with the release of the seasons - but this seasons really starts awkwardly with how things went down at the end of S2. Ciri and Yeni are fine now? Geralt being cold to Yeni at least makes sense, but I couldn't believe how everything was copacetic between Ciri and Yeni.

That was probably a good sign of what was to come for the first part of the season. The storytelling is very choppy - not only do you not know how much time is passing between scenes, but MAJOR elements are taking place off screen that are then being referenced to later on. The CGI is noticeably bad throughout the season (which makes me think they are already scaling on budget), so many of the characters and their previous actions are being retconned because the writers have no clue what they are doing, and the part 1 finale is the worst episode of the entire series. It's been over a week since I have seen it, and it just was so damn annoying. The attempt by the writers to be smart or clever (Shyamalanian) really fails, and I can see why Cavill wants to jump out of this trainwreck.

The disjointedness is annoying.

Trying to remember things that happened and didn't happen, when they happened.

The not so subtle differences with elves. I enjoy it so far, but I'm only up to the Invitation episode and not through it yet.

So only 5 episodes released... I haven't paid attention... are they waiting to release 5 more as season 3.5?

Just volume 1 and volume 2. Volume 2 is end of the month.

Last episode of volume 1 tried to be clever but wasn't at all. The fact that it isn't stegobor… shocking

Maybe it's just me but it's just a ton of dialogue this season.

Agree, monster fighting is best part. Political intrigue is boring. Seems like they thought adding some sort of GoT element would help, but it didn't.

The political intrigue is great in the books and games, they just ****ed it up IMO. Haven't seen season 3 though, and probably won't.

So true. I kept trying to figure out if I accidently restarted the episode. It looked like they were going for one of those cool things where they tell the story over and over from different characters' viewpoints so you eventually get the whole story. Like in Clue or that Simpson's episode with the toy robot. Instead they retold the story differently from the perspectives of the same two main characters and it was just a mess

Watched the first volume and agree with all the comments so far.

I've never played the games or read the books, but I can see all the complaints of why this series is not what it could be

Classic case of writers thinking they are smarter than the source material. A few small tweaks in the beginning and before you know it you have a completely different story that you can't get a hold of.

Man, I barely remember what happened in season 2, which means half the time I'm trying to figure out what's going on AND why it's going on. Lol. Guess that's my fault for not rewatching.

At least it's not a long wait to finish it out.

It's not a you issue, HTH. The sooner you realize that you can't make it make sense and just watch for Cavill being a great Geralt personification, the better.

I rewatched the first two seasons and read the whole book series in January/February and still feel like I'm missing half of the context. I'm going to finish out the Cavill episodes but will not be following after. Just gross mishandling of an epic story

I have nothing to add except to agree that I thought it was me, and finally realized that the story has gone completely off the rails. Palace intrigue is so boring. Just have Geralt trot Roach through the woods and fight monsters for God's sake. Oh wait they fing killed Roach wtf.

Did they? I'm pretty sure he has called the horse in S3 Roach more than once.

He calls all of his horses roach.

This season is not the worst thing I've ever seen but it's not good. Writers think they are clever but it's just bad. I can't imagine it lasts long after Cavill leaves.

This comment suprises me. This season is following The Time of Contempt novel much more accurately than the previous seasons followed the earlier books.

This does bring up a question for me...we know they can make people more attractive through a rather painful method. so did margarita decide to be a morbidly obese woman or just chicken out?

When did unattractive people become part of the diversity cult?

If you have read the books and played Witcher 3, the sorceresses were the most beautiful women in all of the world. We are talking 11 out of 10. That was part of their power. Their magic allowed them to create their beauty. If any woman at anytime had that ability they won't choose to look like these ladies.

To be fair, per the book and the Witcher 1 game, Geralt didn't look as good as he does in Witcher 3 and Henry Cavill. The mutagen took a heavy toll

Then to make Dandelion (Jaskier) bisexual is bs also. There is no hint in the books that he liked men also. He was the ultimate man ***** hooking up with tons of women. There were towns he couldn't go to because he had slept with many married women in those towns.

Then a ton of race swapping just for racial reasons only.

This is one show that would have been written better by AI than these poor excuses for "creators". They should have talked to the creators of Amazon's The Boys, to figure out how to best adapt a show from other material. There are some big changes there, but they still keep the same spirt of the source. You have to love the source as much as the fans to make it work. You have to be passionate about it.

It is never explained in the books how they become so very beautiful. The part of the show where Yenn changes from ugly to beautiful doesn't happen. In the books no one knows how old the ladies are. Yenn could have been 100 to 200 years old before she first met Geralt. It is assumed that they got their beauty and longevity all due to magic.

There is one part of the book where Yenn uses some glamour magic makeup that basically makes her even more beautiful. Basically, no one can turn away from her and cannot say no to her. More like a true goddess with radiant beauty. So going from 11 out to 10. She would be a 20 out of 10.
Fenrir

Haven't read the books but figured it was different. I just think it is interesting to show us the method by which these women can become as beautiful as they want and yet one of the higher up sorceresses decides to be or stay a land whale.

I thought in the book Geralt briefly sees past Yenn's glamour and she has a hunchback and stuff, but he decides to use his last wish on her anyway? (It's been a few years though so I could be wrong)
The Unforgiven
How long do you want to ignore this user?

I don't remember that detail, but i wouldn't doubt you. I am sure she was ugly or hunchback. However, in the book it doesn't detail how she went from ugly to beautiful. Could it have been as simple as just doing a spell or was it really the intense and lengthy painful process in the show? I don't have a problem with the way they depicted that part of the story because it fleshes out more of Yenn's past before Geralt. it shows how badly these women want to be a sorceress, and how painful it can be along with never being able to have kids. It adds something minor to the story, but it tells us more about her. It doesn't change anything, and it isn't something totally ridiculous even for a fantasy story.
