More importantly, I hope they just focus on quality over quantity.

More Andor, less Boba Fett.

Wonder what is all on the chopping block at Lucasfilm. Hoping for more quality too.

I wonder how many eyeballs were driven to D+ by the SW and Marvel shows though. As crappy as they were, folks still subscribed to see them.

I'm sure they've run the numbers and know what the sweet spot of content is, but that's a pretty big hole left to fill in their streaming content model.

It took them 3 years to acknowledge Marvel had been heavily diluted?

It all started going downhill with Wandavision.
SheHulk solidified it.

On the surface, it seems like a positive thing...particularly Marvel with the numerous side projects about characters that haven't resonated with audiences like the original MCU did.

Then again, I can't help but wonder what they're going to replace it with.

Disney hasn't exactly shown encouraging signs in terms of quality 'fresh ideas' lately. They've mostly rode the coattails of the original MCU films, recent Star Wars films, and 'remakes' of their classic animated films.

I'd have to imagine the bloated budgets of these action series or the real-life remakes of the classics are factoring into this. Does this mean more animated projects? It will be interesting to see what comes out of it.

In the last 20 years, I can only think of 3 new Disney creations/IP that have been universally praised to worldwide acclaim and will be deemed classics for years to come like Little Mermaid, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, etc.

Monsters Inc
Toy Story 3
Frozen

That's weak compared to the power they held in the 70s-90s

I think you can probably throw Encanto and Moana on that list, as well.

Everyone freaked out when Guardians of the Galaxy was first announced. A talking racoon and a tree? Definite bomb.

Up to End Game, 95% of the movies had excellent storytelling (mean eye pointing at Thor). I didn't care who the hero was, I believed I was going to be entertained.

I really liked Wandavision. Even more, I liked Loki. Those were the only Marvel properties I've really been entertained by since. Straight up stopped watching She-Hulk. Didn't bother watching new AntMan or Black Panther in the theater (and really didn't like them from home).

At one point, I could watch 3 new Marvel movies a year without fatigue. Each seamed to be it's own thing. They seamed to have their own unique stories.

Star Wars just hasn't produced that much quality. Original trilogy. Andor and Rogue One. First seasons of Mando. Star Wars Holiday Special. The bad - was really bad though and Boba Fett was one of the worst shows I forced myself to sit through.

If there was an overarching story to Phase 4 and 5, I'd wonder how that was affected by removing some of the shows. But since it's all an non-cohesive mess, I guess we don't have to worry about that.

depending on when Disney acquired Pixar I'm pretty sure Monsters Inc doesn't quite count and T1 and T2 were definitely before Disney and Pixar merged….

That being said off the top of my head there's….

Frozen (as stated already)
Moana
Lilo & Stitch
Coco
Inside Out
Incredibles 2
Tangled

And I'm sure there's a few more….but that's not necessarily a terrible list…..don't think anything will live up to the Disney Renaissance of the 90s though….

Disney + needs content.

They can't go Netflix and make a thousand shows and hope a couple will be good. They can't be like Apple and make a small number of really unique high budget shows and risk not having hits. Without the core IP driving eyeballs I don't know what they offer.

It's too bad they couldn't make something more interesting out of Star Wars.

What Disney is insinuating:

"Since you don't like our inclusive characters being forced into childrens programming, we won't make stuff the true fans crave."

What Disney execs are saying behind closed doors:

"It wasn't so wise to turn DEI militants loose on our intellectual property, so we really need to cut back for the foreseeable future to save embarrassment on people not consuming Disney entertainment because we have burned so much trust and goodwill."

I would be very curious what shows the House of Mouse wants to continue. And which shows they feel are diluting the brands.

Oh, they could. But they decided to bring back an old man version of a cool bounty hunter. And a broken version of an awesome Jedi. Andor, which is a great show, doesn't have the pull that a Jedi driven show would have. Ahsoka is probably going to be awesome, but so much of it will probably assume the audience has watched Rebels and Clone Wars cartoons. How many adults without kids is that going to draw?

From a mega fan standpoint, I love it all. From a business standpoint...probably not the best decisions.

I wonder if the Acolyte is going to be any good. My expectations are not high. (It's too late to cancel that one, right?)

Doubt they could but considering that there were rumors swirling a couple of weeks or so ago that it was going to be shelved and the article in the OP... I mean maybe?

Edit: Since the Actors Guild has decided to strike today, who knows at this point.

I don't remember, I think I first saw the question asked on here but didn't look into it. I think everyone rightfully dismissed it. Frankly, I think it would more likely they just delay it similar to what happened to New Mutants but that's just my opinion.

Yes. It was a "rumor" from freaking Doomcock. In other words, complete troll sh*t.

As bad as The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan, and Mando S3 we're, I'm actually super high on the next four Star Wars shows, as Ahsoka, Skeleton Crew, The Acolyte, and Andor S2 all pretty incredible, and all have really exciting talent both in front of and behind the camera. But yeah, I'm glad they're at least spreading them out now. They're all finished filming too, save for Andor S2, so that's the only one that will actually be affected by the strikes.

As for Marvel, I'd say I feel the exact opposite, and outside of Loki S2, and maybe the new Daredevil series, I wouldn't be upset if I never had to watch another Disney+ Marvel series again.

Yup almost every marvel series has felt like something I've "had" to watch just to keep up with storylines. Loki is the only one I look forward to. I'm pretty sure they are going to ruin the Netflix Daredevil I love.

Disney+ never should have been created. They should have licensed their existing content to Netflix and simply added a revenue stream instead of an entire business unit.

I'd heard the Echo one, about the background/side baddie in the Hawkeye show, was probably getting canned due to how bad it was
TCTTS

Didn't get canned. But all episode *are* being released at once, something Disney+ has never done for one of these shows, which tells you what they think about its week-to-week prospects.
