Nope. Greg Daniels confirmed he wants to expand the "Office Universe" with a new cast.

I'm sure there will still be guest spots available for all of the out-of-work former cast and those stuck doing commercials (looking at you Stanley and Phyllis).

Still probably going to be sh*te, though.

Here's how to successfully reboot The Office:

Grab season 1 and put it in the DVD player.
Pro tip: Grab season 1 of the original The Office which many on here may not even know exists and watch that as your reboot.
Do you really think people don't know about the original series?

But how many have actually watched it though? It's fantastic and far better than the US.
it was good. but the US office surpassed it.

I couldn't get into it after a couple of tries. The US version is so much better.

The British version is just "meaner", similar to season one Michael Scott. In my opinion anyways.

Why reboot it? Create another workplace comedy similar to it and call it something else. Medical and police dramas have been doing that since the 1960s.
If you say you hate the state of politics in this nation and you don't get involved in it, you obviously don't hate the state of politics in this nation.

This is exactly how you fail. Force tie ins to the old show/universe.

The only spin off that did it ok far as I remember was Frasier when they brought old Cheers members on but even those episodes weren't Frasiers strongest by any means.

As a Texas Rangers fan, OP and I don't' see eye to eye.... but we are brothers to the bloody end on this one. No way in hell you reboot the office.

Michael Scott made the show. If he's not there, it's not worth it.

Well now I'm excited because I think I know what the show is going to be about if it's an extension of the Office Universe.

Yes.
Considering it was impossible to ever say you like the Office without some turd saying "the UK version is better", I find that unlikely.

One of the main aspects of The Office that made it work as well as it did was the natural chemistry between the cast members. You could just tell they enjoyed working together and each other's company. It's similar with Friends. You can't just recreate that kind of chemistry and that's what makes a reboot so dangerous. If they recast, there is no guarantee they can recreate that chemistry and with people's expectations already being high due to their love of the original, the reboot runs a real danger of falling flat. And, if they try to bring in some but not all of the original cast with the reboot in hopes of recreating that chemistry, it runs the risk of tainting the original in the process. It's best just to create something new.

Since I'm assuming TC got some sort of mega-ban last week, I sadly have to be the voice of reason and point out that Greg Daniels hasn't said jack **** about this. It is a rumor based on something that a writer named Matthew Beloni of whatever "Puck News" said yesterday.

But it's corporate Hollywood...so they'll try a watered-down version to use the iconic brand with newer, younger, modern, characters and declare it a success no matter how many viewers they get.

Yeah, he caught the ban in the Russel Brand thread. I missed it myself, but the staff-edited post is still there. If you look through the posts, you can probably guess pretty easily which poster it was likely directed toward, though

The thing I saw was that the actors who played Pam, Stanley, that little blonde accountant weirdo and Creed were all about doing it. I could see it being a weird "ok boomer" style show where the 4 old crew is generational battling the new office workers. Maybe the 2 factions exchange members back on forth based on stupid stuff like is Hilary Swank hot? But...you could update it to someone current. Standard sitcom setups where older gen vs new gen.

Think the writing has to be superb, and you also need to keep up the old personalities of the older characters. They're weird enough as it is without relying on the standard sitcom tropes. Why did Stanley leave Florida and unretire? (He was bored and was offered the manager job in Scranton)
I'd like to find out stuff like...where was Creed on January 6th? Deucing on a senator's desk? Selling dirt weed to antifa?

There's some stories in there, maybe. Hijinks ensue?

Would a reboot even have any of the original characters?
As a general policy, I try to never agree with Sea Speed, but hes right. Reboot means a new cast, like The Wonder Years, or any of the 50 Star Treks.

Yes, people are confusing reboot with sequel on here. A reboot would be redoing the show with entirely new characters. Example: The US version of The Office is a reboot itself of the UK version.

The first season of the US Office even largely follows the same story lines as the UK version before it branches off into new territory later on.

Only shot a reboot can work is a totally different cast. Maybe even a different industry/office setting.

The moment you try to bring 3-4 characters back only you're setting up for failure especially if it's someone like Pam saying things like "with Jim working out of town so much "(because Krazinksi isn't on the show).
So not optimistic about the upcoming season of Frasier?

There is a very good podcast out right now where Pam and Angela go through every episode (Office Ladies). I'm wondering if the success of that show and everyone getting back together to discuss the old episodes is driving this. They have different writers, actors, directors, etc. on the show each week to discuss behind the scenes stuff. Makes sense that they all might want to try and get the band back together. Not sure how I feel about it. No way they can ever do another episode like Diversity Day or Sexual Harassment.

I def would not say I have high hopes. That said, the reason Frasier worked so well was because it did start completely independent away from Cheers. New city, new occupation for Frasier, new family situation, new characters. They only brought back the Cheers characters once Frasier was well established on its own merit.

Frasier was a special show.

It was just the first episode. They used the script for the first episode of the UK version so the network couldn't give notes.

Yeah, I think the US pilot was pretty close to the British version. Michael Scott was almost immediately toned down. Still, "Diversity Day" and Kelly slapping Michael is probably my favorite scene of the series. Kelly wasn't an airhead at that point.
