She is an incredible singer-songwriter. Much known for her ability to write rather than her singing voice.

For sure. She sings good but that bar is low for me. I sound like a cat in heat but Yoko Ono already made all of the money available in that market.

Since Thriller? Seriously?

Lover, Reputation, and 1989 were each hyped far more than this album.

The general sentiment I've continually seen these past couple of weeks is literally how little this album is being promoted comparatively, even by Swift herself. It's bizarre. For one, she didn't even release a single from it ahead of time, something she's otherwise done for nearly every album. She's hardly done any kind of count down either, she hasn't made a single appearance yet, etc. Not to mention, the marketing materials she released at whatever library earlier this week were getting dunked on for featuring typos and just looking cheap in general.

Again, I like her! I want this album to be good!

But so far the build up has been an objective step down from her behemoth efforts of the past.

The marketing got to Miss rev

Still her emotional IQ, whatever that is, has resonated with enough people she is a billionaire. Can you give me some examples of other artists you have analyzed that have a high emotional iq, I'd like to check them out.
I complemented her for what counts - her ability to write music.

Good job white knighting for her though, maybe some day she'll read this and track you down.

Does that mean we aren't going to get any Garrelli 5000 approved high emotional iq artists, sad. For the record I didn't know I was white knighting , me and my low emotional iq thought we were just calling you a moron. But if that means I am white knighting then…

I didn't really follow that when it happened, but in retrospect it think its universally agreed that dude(?) was totally right. So I accept the compliment, its extra special because it comes from someone with such a high emotional IQ.

It's a cross I bear...bare...bexar? there's a few others that might contain the correct one.

I didn't at the time either. I bet it made a measurable impact on documentary viewership several years later.

Post Malone is a great musician and person. "Fortnight" (featuring Post Malone) will probably be one of the top 5 tracks of Taylor Swift's new album.
If that's true, the album isn't very good. Top 5 out of 31 songs?

That track was straight trash from the jump. And I am a huge Post Malone fan -- why ask the man to do a feature and then treat him like a backup singer? I guess is that it's Taylor Swift and you'd be silly to say no, but still. The song was ass, my dude.

Probably the worst feature post has done. Maybe even the worst song he has ever been involved with.

my daughter listened to a few songs this morning before school. the main adjective i would use to describe what she listened to was boring. low energy and not very interesting.

really disappointing that half the songs are explicit as well, primarily for my daughter and her friends, but beyond that i have always found her usage of profanity incredibly cringe-worthy. it always just seems so forced and fake.

Taylor cursing upsets you?

Get that stick out of your ass. She's 34 years old.
i'm not opposed to cussing. as i clearly explained, i'm opposed specifically to her cussing. she's bad at it.

Yeah, I'm an old, but I'm tired of profanity in popular music in general. I get that the double-entendres and plays on words to get around the radio censors seem cheesy nowadays, but it is a lot more clever than what often feels like profanity just for the sake of it or (more often) lazy writing.

Taylor Swift is beautiful, talented, has a good voice, and connects with her audience incredibly well. I'm not her audience but I do still like some of her stuff.

Listened to the new album some yesterday. It's monotonous and incredibly melancholy. Not my cup of tea. "But Day I Love Him" sounds like a hit.

Whoever said earlier this has an 80s vibe couldn't be more wrong.

My wife made the comment that it seemed she was trying to imitate Lana Del Ray's singing style.

There certainly aren't many upbeat songs, but there are some good ones. Probably won't be in her top albums, but not a bad effort. The bar for her is just so much higher than anybody else.

That was me. The plodding synth heavy sound that slowly builds up remind me of pop slow songs of the mid 80s.

Things like live to tell, all through the night, I wanna know what love is.

You should check out The 1975 if you aren't already familiar with them if you like modern 80sish synthpop

It could have been a really cool duet like post did with Doja Cat in "I Like You" on 12 Carat Toothache.

Instead, boring snoozefest with a weak backup vox and a 8 bar outro "verse"

I was indifferent to Taylor Swift in a lot of ways. I think she's fine, whatever, I get her appeal. I dont listen to her albums as I am an adult male. And maybe Im an idiot for only listening to one song that I found interesting...

But that track was ...very very bad and lazy. I guess when you can "tease" an album and then release 31 songs, they aren't all gonna be hits, I get that. But this was just a waste of time. And will still be streamed hundreds of millions of times.

That's why non-Swifties can be annoyed by all of this. She's the Olive Garden of music. Food and music are both subjective, and people should just enjoy what they enjoy. Hell, I'll take down a few breadsticks and a not very flavorful or interesting fettuccine Alfredo and enjoy it for what it is. The difference is that Olive Garden regulars won't try to fight you for telling them that there is (much) better Italian food down the street in a worse location but offering better-tasting and less generic dishes. An Olive Garden staying busy on a Friday night while a Mom and Pop Italian place struggles to keep its doors open is a shame. An aging billionaire with a marketing machine behind her, 100% media spotlight, a plethora of producers, musicians, and writers who do the heavy lifting on her songs, and she still turns out something pretty mediocre which will still do insane numbers, all the while there are lots of female musicians out there writing actual (much better) poetry, writing from a 20-year olds perspective because they actually are 20, maybe not very attractive but possessing a voice that can actually do something, and considering calling it quits because their herculean effort on a great album is getting thousands of streams at best -- a much bigger shame.

I think the 31 songs was unnecessary. There is some really good music in there, but a lot of people will never know because they aren't gonna sit through all that.

She could have put out a great 12 track album here but didn't. I hope she chooses to go back to something with more of a pop feel for her next release.

Question for the fans - why do you think she's done the additional drop after the album drop twice now? It looks like a money grab and a slap in the face to fans who preorder, but I'm truly curious if there's another reason.

I don't think that answers questions about why or what about preorders. If it's because her fans like more stuff, she could have announced the full album up front and/or included the full release with preorders.

Special shout out to the Fedex driver in Dallas who delivered my girlfriends vinyl copy today. Our apartment uses about 60 lockers for package deliveries and we usually get a pic of the package sitting in the locker before they close the door. Today, this driver only took a pic of the locker number...13. Nice touch!

I think there is likely a commercial reason to do it, surprises drive clicks. But I also think it is part of a long term plan. Midnights (TS10) had the 3 am version, TTPD (TS11) had a 2 am surprise. TS12 will have something at 1 am, then TS13 (her lucky number) will have some sort of special release right at midnight.

As a fan of her music, I will never mind having more content, but it is overwhelming. I get being frustrated about feeling like you were done wrong by preordering, but mostly I think fans are glad to have more songs by an artist they enjoy.

I also think this release appeals a lot to people who are interested in her personal life. For people who aren't invested in that, I can see why this would be an underwhelming release to some extent. What I don't understand is people saying it's "bad" with no other context or elaboration. I think the way she can paint a picture with words and use syncopation, consonance, rhyming, double entendres etc in her lyricism is really incredible. Sure there are some silly or dumb moments but the highs are so high that it's not worth focusing on the lows.

Well said.

She was obviously completely heart broken over Joe Alwyn and we got a whole album+ out of it. This isn't uncommon for musicians. Had a friend break up with her boy after 12 years and she wrote 3 albums worth of songs. She's in multiple local bands. It's what musicians do.

I'm enjoying TTPD more and more as I listen to it and revisit songs. I'm glad there are 31 tracks.
