So as not to clutter the Sanderson thread for those who aren't caught up.

Let do this. If you are reacting to something post the chapter number then spoiler tag it?

Chapter 6

I was not ready for Dalinar to name Kaladin his heir

No productive comment here, but thanks for the PSA to re-read Oathbringer to catch back up!

Chapter 12

The scene where Kaladin is finally able to get the Bridge Four-head tattoo brought tears to my eyes while I was grabbing lunch at a Tex mex place.

Ch59 more general comments than any spoiler.

i'm on day 5 and it just keeps getting crazier and crazier. Dalinar's story in particular. Wasn't expecting Szeth's backstory to be so interesting.

I love how each prologue gives us a bit more information on Galivar and everything that kinda kick started the series. I was surprised to learn that he actually cares for navani but is trying to push her away before he ascends, and he thinks so little of Dalinar. Totally opposite to his outside actions. It was also kinda funny seeing his interactions with restares and nale and his ignorance about a great many things. When stormfather says a herald died. I assume that shallan was killing her herald mother the same night as the assassination?

I think Adolin and Syl are my favorite characters

I think so. This prologue when Brandon released it last year was considered a feather in the cap of proponents of that theory

Should say I have no idea of that is in fact true or not. Only 200 pages in

I'm on chapter 21, and there has been no mention about all the progress navani made with the various lights and tones. No spoilers, but do these come into play at all?

There's no time jump between the Rythm of War and Wind and Truth so they're there's not much of a chance to expound on it.

I don't necessarily need more explanation on it, just some consequences from that large storyline and name of the previous book. Now that I've gotten further there is some anti-light, but there is no follow up or usage on the other lights and rhythms

there are a few instances of people interpreting tones of light between Navani, Venmo, Rlain, etc. but not major plot importance thus far (Ch 63). Not that mad about it, the direction that Sanderson is taking us with new wrinkles to the Rosharan magic system (connection, tension, and division abilities, deadeye consequences, etc.) is much more interesting imo.

Don't buy it. a shardblade can't kill a herald. Only the special blades

Anything could kill a herald's body, they are just normally sent back to Braize after dying. Then they were tortured until they give in to Odium, which started another desolation. The way Jezrien is killed in OB was a different process. It trapped his soul until it lost its connection to the Oathpact, destroying him.

Yes.

I won't post it but someone posted a very interesting synopsis of the Worldhopper Ball at dragonsteel nexus on Reddit. It was billed as an interactive novella showcasing shallans wedding. There was an interesting guest who interrupted the proceedings

I have not reached anything in WaT that would relate to this but it feels like it will play a prominent part of the story at some point

maybe the scion of a herald with the Intent could do so?

Ok I guess lots of options. And I guess Brandon could fit most anything. We'll see. I'm only a day into WaT so looking forward to it.

Spoilers through ch 64

so based on the chapter I just read that showed the founding of the oathpact and ending with "Honor" attacking renarin, I'm guessing this kinda debunks the theory that shallan's mom was a herald since she would have surely recognized her there, unless of course that was iyatil (sp?) Posing as shallan and talking to ren

Spoilers for ch 81

leyton's death rattle predicts sigzil's death, but we know from sunlit man he survives. Iirc he changes radiant orders so maybe the death of his strength does happen? I wonder if his survival is related to the dawnshard he will hold for a time? At first I was hoping that this meant moash dies before he has a chance to fulfill the prophecy, but after further consideration idk. All my homies hate moash

46% done.

I'm really enjoying the backstories. It's gotten a bit wordy at parts but this could be a candidate for my favorite book of the series depending on how the back half goes.

Through chapter 95, 72% done. Damn this book is crazy.

Spoilers for chapter 116

i feel like there were more arguments Jasnah could have made. Of course she looks after her family and country first, that's her job, just like it's Fen's to do the same. But is becoming the most privileged slaves really the best for her people? Alethkar fought and died for thaylen, and jasnah is there to risk her life to do the same. That doesn't count for anything?

79% done and I can honestly say idk how this is going to end

Finished and thought about it, minor spoilers, nothing specific.

Great conclusion, not perfect from begining to end, but a job well done. I'd compare it to the idea of completing a marathon but rolling an ankle and picking up a blister along the way. Sanderson has done himself a disservice with the quality he is known for, in 490k words, of course people are going to find something.

Probably tentatively my favorite of the 5 on first read through but I reserve the right to change my mind.

I don't know if any moment would be top 3, but I feel like this book would have the most in a top 15-20 ranking.

Random thought and mistborn spoiler: Moash = Evil Marsh, and i'd rather think that than having to acknowledge his name. **** Moash

Ch 65 spoiler (Ive read the whole thing though)

Taln casually trying to turn down immortality, after trying to kill Cultivation, and threatening to kill Honor, is such a badass. Very much looking forward to his flashbacks in a future book.

Thoughts after finishing:

Cool to see how Sigzil gets Aux.

Excited to see Lift with 10 years of training from Vasher.

Kaladin technically becoming the King of Urithiru (if you count Navani is incapacitated) to fulfill Jezrien's role as the Windrunner Herald King was awesomely poetic. I can't wait to see all the heralds come back to tear **** up.

I really still don't understand what the 5th ideal does as far as increased powers over the 4th. I guess the Spren can fully manifest in the physical realm?
I loved the book, but on first readthrough it didn't have a moment that hit me as hard emotionally as most of the other books. The closest was Adolin accepting his father for his faults, but it lacked a true "You can not have my pain" moment that wasn't used previously in another book (like Kaladin telling Ishar that he will be warm again). Similarly, the most badass action moment of the book imo happened off screen (Taln going full terminator).

Urithiru better get self sustaining quick.

If I had to name one disappointment, it was that I was hoping to see Rock again. My pet theory coming into the book was that he was going to end up as the King of the Horneaters and bond the Night watcher somehow.

I'm interested to see if Shallan chooses her family over her curiosity to explore the cosmere. I think she ultimately stays in Shadesmaar as a Rosharan counterpart to Kelsier. Her lightweavers and several other radiants that came with her to Lasting Integrity should still be stuck in there with her, so I predict that is the bones of the new organization, with her staying in the Rosharan time dilation to lead while she sends others out to explore.

Overall, fantastic book. I'm going to start the fighting by my ranking, which would be TWOK, OB, WAT, ROW, WOR. WOR is still in my top 10 favorite books I've ever read.

I am starting day four but does anyone just have overall impressions since they finished. I have seen everyone say the back half is much stronger than the first half and I feel like the first half is already really strong

Updated my post above to unspoiler general comments.

You won't be disappointed. I think it is consistently better than half the previous books, but the sanderlanche lacks an elite one liner like some of the others.
