That won't be confusing at all.
Would highly recommend reading all of Frank Herbert's 6 novels. The last 2 books are the best arc in the series, along with the best character in the series.Cinco Ranch Aggie said:
Welp, I've never read Children of Dune. I stopped after Dune Messiah. I am on a bit of a sci-fi reading streak right now, working through an old Alan Dean Foster novel titled Cachalot, then moving on to Project Hail Mary. After that I am planning a re-read of Dune Messiah. I suppose Children of Dune will follow. But at my reading rate, I have to wonder if I'll make it through CoD prior to the movie's release.
Really hoping for God Emperor and the Honored Matres arcs.Mega Lops said:
Don't see how we don't get a Dune 4 unless 3 is like 4.5 hours.

Not a chance Dune doesn’t budge. Barbenheimer was one thing, but the audience for these two are concentric circles of very different sizes, and Disney is going to extort its way onto occupying 90% of screens https://t.co/9DeSr8rtCj

One of these films will likely still change release dates depending on IMAX screens. Both films will want those IMAX screens for at least 2 weeks https://t.co/8C7wo8oEGW

This report is correct, @warnerbros is sticking their feet in the sand and refusing to move because "they were there first", but they will move. They have to move. Disney theatrical distribution is the gorilla, not them. WB just buying time until Dune is 100% sure to be ready. https://t.co/yEKqGmwRrC

Dune will premiere at Venice and open in theaters on October 9th is my guess https://t.co/Lub6hs0uxp

I mostly agree with @davidehrlich , but think the @dunemovie date will be Oct. 24th where the Jordan Peele film that never shot still sits. Would have a clean IMAX run all the way to Thanksgiving. @warnerbros would have to move the M. Night film, but that is not a dealbreaker. https://t.co/NZHtTqPGD5

If you are already a third of the way through God Emperor, you are doing fantastic. I had never read past Messiah 40 years ago and the first Villanueve Dune movie motivated me to read the original six books, but God Emperor was a complete slog for me. Took me several months to finish it. The payoff of the last two books is worth it. I rank Heretics of Dune my second favorite of the six.

God Emperor is definitely a weird one. I keep thinking how they could possibly make this into a movie. I mean, I know they can, but I'm thinking they've already thought if they should to quote Ian Malcolm.
I read that Heretics of Dune and Chapterhouse: Dune were intended as a trilogy, but when Frank Herbert died after completing that last book, his son came in and finished it based on Herbert's notes. So I will go ahead with the two books that came about due to those notes.
That's where it gets unbelievable.Quad Dog said:

You could maybe do the Golden Path reveal in God Emperor in a few scenes and nothing else in the book. That book would be crazy difficult to adapt.
Yes, there is a missing Frank book that was never made. Brian's books do not have a good reputation so I've never read them. I did read the Wikipedia summaries to see the full plot of the missing book. It seemed like a lot of "And then this happened" that never made me want to read the actual book.

Because almost nothing happens in it. I realize I'm beating this to death but God Emperor is just one long philosophical talking book. Zero action. Would be boring as hell as a movie. I still think Messiah will divert from the book enough to make it digestible by the masses since he changed the ending of Dune in part 2 leading into Messiah.
I still need to read the final two books. I stopped after God Emperor because I had read the first four books back to back year before last.

IMDB lists actors for Leto II and Ghanima, so I'm expecting some influence from Children of Dune in Dune Part 3.

That's I figured they would do, and I'm so freaking excited. Children of Dune was one of my favorites. I also really liked Chapterhouse and heretics a bunch as well.
They should combine Messiah and Children of Dune for this movie to end the Trilogy. Then I would make 2 movies out of Heretics and Chapterhouse, but cover God Emperor as an extended Prologue to start the Heretics movie. One can dream!

That's where it gets unbelievable.
Apparently the son and other author found some old ass floppy disks containing Frank's notes, yet there is absolutely no proof that the notes were followed. Brian and KJA don't even claim to be faithful to the notes, so you didn't read the plot of the missing book. You read the fan fiction created by a son who wanted to hop on the gravy train his dad left rolling.
Hard to say if the publisher contacted Brian first to see if there was interest in the estate continuing to build out the Dune franchise, or if it was the other way around.
The only thing clear is that Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson put forth six prequels which laid out a very specific "thinking machines as the ultimate evil" storyline and two sequels to Chapterhouse: Dune which completely reinforced their make believe narrative.
There is absolutely zero hard evidence Frank intended the final book to be about the thinking machines. In fact it is 180 degrees away from how he ended Chapterhouse.
