I think I'm looking forward to this more than I did the 2nd one, which I found oddly lacking compared to how much I loved the first one.

No spoilers, but just exploring the idea of "what does the man who dreams of the future do after he's saved the world" is pretty compelling, and it looks like DV is swinging for the fences on it.

Not as excited as i was as the last film. Will I watch this with a butt hole popcorn on opening weekend? Yep.

I've been re-watching Dune: Part Two recently, and I thought I couldn't love it more before realizing now that this was all I was missing.

Speaking of, the teaser needs more Shai-Huluds, but I still loved it.

Looks like they're going into the Fremen war. I still don't see this film ending as the book did, with Paul walking into the desert after Chani has died in childbirth but I'd be okay with that happening. I just don't think general audiences would be. No footage of the children, just that conversation where they decided names without apparently knowing that Chani is having twins, but I still hope they bring at least some of Children of Dune into this film.

Was it the Dune bucket that created this trend of big films releasing special popcorn buckets? It suddenly seems like a big thing now

Project Hail Mary and Mario Bros 2 both have special buckets

Great interview with Denis. So happy Hans Zimmer is back and scoring.

Just like the last movie, I really don't care that much about the source materials. I look at this Dune trilogy as Denis' vision, and he is one of my favorite filmmakers in history. Despite all we talk about Hollywood getting worse every year, I am so happy to get TWO epics in the same year from two of the best Directors working, today.

I think that was the most intense trailer I've ever seen. Incredible.

One thing I think the second movie really missed on is showing how conscious of the long term outcome Paul was when he made the choice to become emperorthe jihad/war. I could be misremembering the book and movie some, but in the book I remember him wrestling with that being a significant portion of the story, and in the movie it seemed like a pretty quick and easy decision.

also curious to see if they stick with the cautionary hero's journey theme, I have my doubts they will which I think is a mistake

Hell. Yes.

The trailer "scored" to Paul's chants is so damn good.

Man, this looks amazing.

This cast is just insane too.

Cannot wait!

I disagree about the ending. I think it is perfect and will film incredibly well. Except maybe the Chani dying part. They might change that detail.

This is probably better for a book thread, so I will put this in spoiler tags.

I hated the book the first time I read it way back in the 80s while I was at A&M. But I missed the point that Herbert was making. Paul looks like a hero from the first book, but that doesn't mean he is a hero. He is charismatic with a huge following. So was Hitler. Following charismatic leaders can lead to ruin. That was what I didn't get back in the 80s that came through loud and clear on my re-read earlier this year. I just have to wonder if audiences are going to respond well to a film where Chani should die, and the charismatic leader wanders into the desert, purportedly to die.

I'm trying to think of another actor who has succeeded in turning around his perception like Robert Pattinson. To go from Twilight, disappearing into indie films for a while, and now an A-list actor being cast by all the great directors in massive blockbusters, is so interesting. At this point, Pattinson may be my favorite actor, in his age group. Tell me I would say that, 15 years ago, and I would have laughed at you.

If I had a nickel for every 2026 blockbuster starring Robert Pattinson and Zendaya that I'm incredibly hyped to see, I'd have 10 cents.

I had no idea the writer of Saga was a co-writer of Dune Messiah. If anyone out there is into comics/graphic novels then Saga is a really enjoyable one that I recommend.

Not gonna lie. This looks epic. Epic enough to overcome Zendaya's reprisal of Chani.

Robert Pattinson will very likely nail this role and overshadow everyone else.

As much as I am opposed to all things Frank's son in involved in, I am intrigued to see how the source material is treated.

I'm pretty sure this is supposed to most closely follow Messiah, which Frank wrote.

It's looking more and more like a split adaption of Messiah and Children of Dune, mixed with original elements as well. I haven't read either, but most who have are saying that's increasingly looking to be the case. Granted, obviously more Messiah than Children, but still. One notable fact along those lines is that Messiah is set ten years after Dune, while this is set 17 years after. That, and we know Paul and Chani's kids have been cast, and they're both being played by teenagers.

Yeah I remember avoiding bringing it up when the second movie came out, but not a spoiler at this point to say Paul's sister in the Dune book was a young child by the end of it opposed to the movie where Jessica was still pregnant.

Good to know. Never read Children, might have to give it a listen by the time the movie comes out. I'm pretty sure Messiah is less than half the length of Dune, so I guess it makes some sense.

With regard to the book, tgere is a lot going on in Messiah. It is actually light on action but heavy on political machinations. The trailer appears to show what was only referenced with Paul's jihad.

The casting of teens could mean material from children, or it could mean they appear only in Paul's future visions. My preference would be to go fully into Children with its ending … but that movie would be approaching 4 hours minimum.

Right, and the movie skipped a lot of that from the first book. Which I understand and ultimately think was the right move, could have gotten Star Wars prequel-y pretty quick, but was by far my favorite part of the books. I imagine that's true for most people.
