So which movies do you have a "problem" with, and why?

Some of mine:

Hangover. Why in the world wouldn't Phil have a credit card to pay for the room?

Christmas Vacation. Why didn't Clark just push down the attic ladder? I doubt an attic ladder door can only be manipulated by a string pull.

The Graduate. I never understood Hoffman falling in love with Elaine and going to the lengths he did to get her at the end. They really had little interaction.

Billy Madison. Having difficulty urinating in the lower urinal. The water level in my toilet is lower or close to the water urinal he had difficulty with. I don't sit down when I pee and I have no issues.

The Matrix. Saying "I know Kung fu? I know kung fu!" Just kidding. I love that scene.

Star Wars. Relativity doesn't seem to matter.

Can we all about the abomination that was Ocean's 12, and how over half the movie was basically invalidated by the "plot twist"?

Everyone on that little Nazi island in the Indian Ocean died after The Ark was opened except for Indy and Marion because they kept their eyes closed.

Did they pilot the sub back to civilization on their own? Radio for help somehow?

Avengers: Endgame - turning Hulk into a pu**y and making Thor a drunk, fat slob.

That stuff was believable. The unbelievable part was the rat freeing Antman and Tony Stark solving time travel in a single night.

When I first saw the movie, stuff like this bothered me. Later, though, I remembered that Dr. Strange looked at millions of possible timelines and Thanos won in all but one. So, did a lot of crazy coincidences happen to help the Avengers? Yes, but also we are watching the one timeline out of millions where that stuff happens. I'm sure there's a bunch of other timelines where the rat doesn't save Antman, but Thanos wins in those timelines, so they aren't going to make a movie about it.

Transporter 2. The first movie was great, but the scene where Statham managed to get a car airborne, put it into a perfectly timed roll, guess the speed precisely right to determine the exact height the car needed to be in the jump, while rolling, to have a random crane that just so happened to be the perfect distance away from the launch point, with the perfect ball hook hanging down at the perfect height that when he executed his mid-air role it would scrape the car just barely to not demolish the car while in flight, but merely scrape the bottom just enough in the exact right position to knock off the bomb that was there right before it went off, to then land his perfect bomb removing roll and just keep on driving…..just too damn ridiculous. I was out at that point.

No, because not every movie specifically calls out that multiple timelines exist. Even in some time travel movies, they only have one timeline and changes either alter the one timeline, or it is a fixed timeline that can never be changed. In the case of End Game, the movie itself set up that there are millions of possibilities and of those millions, only one very exact combination of events works. The fact that some one in a million events happen should be expected. It fits with the rules the movie setup.

Hiding Julia Roberts as Julia Roberts was pretty awful.

Gravity

Anyone who has seen the movie knows the scene, as it ruins the whole movie. George Clooney gets pulled away from Sandra Bullock to his death by some strong gravitational force while out in the vacuum of space.

Watched the first Oceans movie and they employed a dumb Scooby-Do like ending

That was enough... never saw the sequels.

And the "twist" at the end of Conclave ... ruined what would have been a good movie in the last 10 min.

Biblically speaking, there was only a Levite priest allowed to enter the inner most sanctum of the Temple, which is where the Ark would typically be. They probably used that as a basis for not looking on the contents of the Ark.

Now the whole getting off the island thing is still a head-scratcher.

Phil's credit card was maxed out since it was towards the end of the month. Plus he knows his rich dentist friend can more easily afford it and can be bullied into paying for it. Plus he's cheap. That's how 30K millionaires roll.

FIFY.

Also, Indy is not critical to the story. If he didn't exist, the Nazis would have had the exact same thing happen to them….

I have shared this one before, but it still bugs me.
In The Rock, when Cage and Connery are breaking into the prison, Connery watches the elaborate mechanisms and fire, then rolls through the obstacles with precise timing and avoids death. Then he opens up a door and lets Cage in. If they are breaking into the prison, why didn't Connery just open the damn door 30 years ago when he was breaking out of the prison?

The door probably had a secure lock on the inside to prevent exiting when it was a prison. When the prison was converted into a tourist destination the lock was removed and that door was turned into a normal exit that locks on the outside when entering.

1 Samuel 6:19
But God struck down some of the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh, putting seventy of them to death because they looked into the ark of the Lord.

Indy would have known not to look.

Why did Fredo tell Michael that he was smart? Not dumb, like everybody says?

He was clearly dumb.

He believed Johnny Ola. He was doing cocktail waitresses two at a time while he was supposed to be working. And he went against the family.

Which you never do.

Dumb.

This one never bothered me. A lot of people I know don't take credit cards on vacation especially to places they might get robbed. If he expected everything to be covered maybe by the person who invited them he might have just brought cash. He also was a low paid teacher maybe he had no credit and thus no cards.

Maybe just using the radio from the sub to get help. Not that hard to imagine.

They were near Greece as the map showed and there were British troops all around the Med including Egypt, Gibraltar and Malta.

Top Gun Maverick: F-35s could absolutely done that mission. They not only could have taken out that air vent thing, it could have taken out all of those SAM sites too. All in a single high altitude pass. And then gone and bombed the airbase for fun.

(That said, I saw that movie twice in the theater.)

Not that I don't love Oceans 11 anyway but....

The 6 huge bags with the X's on them that were filled with flyers for hookers that were blown up in the van at the airport - they cannot have been down in the vault.

There was no way to penetrate the vault beforehand and nothing was shown - in fact they faked all the footage used on CCTV.

The only people that went down to the vault initially were the asian guy in a small rolling safe, danny and linus who repelled down the elevator shaft and were not carrying anything of size.

The bags being stuffed full of money (not actually money) were shown from the taped footage. But the next thing we see is them arriving at the casino floor by elevator from the vault. Then 3 hotel security guys carry them to the van waiting out front. It later explodes at the airport of course and they find out it was just flyers.

The SWAT crew only arrives AFTER all of that and goes down to the vault and of course they fake the siege and take the money that was actually bagged up as they exit.

But WHERE did the fake bags come from?!?!?!! That's a lot of flyers.

I suppose it is possible the guys on the casino floor (that sent the rolling cart with the asian guy down the elevator) could have staged those in the vault elevator at some point but it was never shown. Rolling 6 bags into that secure area or elevator surely would have drawn attention. And apparently Soderbergh admitted it was an oversight.

Part 2 - Oceans 11

The $163M in $100 bills would weight about 3600 pounds and 8 SWAT guys carry it out in duffels that would weigh 450 pounds each with ease.

Volume wise it might work - if evenly stacked and tightly pressed would be about 4x4x4 = 64 cubic feet. And 8 big 3 x 2 x 1.33 duffels would hold it. But like I said each would weigh 450 pounds.

If Indy was not on that Greek island when they opened it, some other Nazis would start looking for the missing people and find the Ark. It would have been taken back to Berlin, where they would have opened it for Hitler, killing him and many other high-ranking members of the German government.

Our "hero" saved Hitler's life in 1936, ensuring war in Europe and millions dead.

And even then, they didn't know to take back one kaddam to honor the Hebrew God who's Ark this is, since Toht only had one side of the medallion burned into his palm.
