This one is one if it pops up on the radio takes me back to the small town I grew up in.

As far as songs I loved back in the day with my windows down in my truck and blasting.

Jump
Cum on feel the noise
Carry on wayward son
Pour some sugar on me
And countless others

Green Day- Good Riddance. It was played at EVERY major event my senior year. I guess it really made an impression on me because I instantly feel like a senior in high school when I hear. It. It's actually very moving for me because of that.

Boys of Summer was after you graduated high school then. October of 1984.

I'm 1984 and that stuck out to me as a college era song. But I do the same thing with Purple Rain album and movie which was June and July of 1984. I associate them with HS but they never were (although When Doves Cry was released as a single in mid May).

Really anything Pop Punk. Immediately takes me back to high school. Also a ton of their songs were on the teen comedy movie soundtracks like American Pie, Van Wilder, Eurotrip etc.

Funny thing was I definitely listened to a lot more country music back then, but the pop punk scene is all I really attribute with high school

Man, you're right. I just remember hearing that song cruising around the Meyerland area of Houston in Michele Villasana's Coupe De ville. lol. She was a high school friend.

Indeed. I don't have that sticker anymore but I do have the 97 Rock one preserved on my childhood record player.

Not enough small town HS music here.

Dwight Yoakam - Turn it On, Turn it Up, Turn Me Loose
Garth Brooks - The Dance
George Strait - Amarillo by Morning

Add in some:
AC/DC - Thunderstruck
Metallica - The entire And Justice For All album

This thread is making me feel old.

I don't recognize many of the songs and some of those I do recognize remind me of my own kids' high school days. LOL

Great thread! When I was thinking about my responses, I kind of feel like it's more appropriate to do it by grade level because I listened to so much music in high school and theee songs all directly link to specific times in my life that are not necessarily universal. Also, there are a lot of songs on here that I don't even necessarily like, but they instantaneously take me to a time because I heard them so much in the Zeitgeist. What's weird, is that some of these songs aren't even necessarily released in the year I experienced them, but they still made a psychic mark for that time period:

9th Grade (1999-2000):
Backstreet Boys-I want it that way.
Limp Bizkit-Nookie
Metallica-No Leaf Clover
Goo Goo Dolls-Iris

10th Grade(2000-2001):
Metallica- I Disappear
Pearl Jam-Even flow
Limp Bizkit-Rollin'
Staind-It's Been a While

11th Grade (2001-2002)
System of a Down- Chop Suy
Goo Goo Dolls- Here is gone
Alice In Chains-Rooster
Sum 41-Fat Lip

12th Grade 2002-2003:
Metallica-St.Anger
Def Leppard-Hysteria
Unwritten Law-Seein' Red

Fish Year at A&M Bonus (2003-2004):

Toby Keith- I Love This Bar
Rehab-Sittin' at a bar ( I detect a theme here)

Yeah, I think songs stick with us out of association a lot of times. For myself, I have a weird fixation where I pretty blatantly remember if not the first time I heard a song then at least the first time a song really registered with me. And in that case, it was definitely a Texas A&M Northgate association so I knew it had to be fall of 84 at the earliest.

Back in Black- AC/DC. Came out in 1980, and the school immediately adopted it as the theme song. Football team had the logo on some of the run through signs, and went on to win State.

Oh and this bad boy...still such a great album. Instantly takes me back to 9th and 10th grade. One of the best rock albums of the 90's to me...and the early to mid 90's was packed with incredible music.

Weirdly, because it was released almost twenty years before I entered high school, "Carry On Wayward Son" by Kansas. Family had just moved to Houston and it was the first song I heard on the radio (probably KLOL) in my new bedroom just as my freshman year was starting.
