How long do you want to ignore this user?
Movie comes out Thursday, evening, May 1. Spoilers should be blacked out until then. Then it's fair game.

After finding themselves ensnared in a death trap, an unconventional team of antiheroes must embark on a dangerous mission that will force them to confront the darkest corners of their pasts.

Starring:
Florence "TexAgs 2" Pugh as Yelena Belova
Lewis Pullman as Robert Reynolds/Sentry
Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes
Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost
David Harbour as Red Guardian
Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster
Wyatt Russell as US Agent / John Walker
Elaine Benes as Valentina Allera de Fontaine

5 cast members from the so-so Black Widow movie, the boring secondary villain from Ant-Man and the Wasp, the smug jackass from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Bob from Top Gun Maverick get together to somehow star in a movie that looks like the most original fun Marvel's had since the first Guardians of the Galaxy.

Also stars my boy Deke Slayton from For All Mankind
Laurence Fishburne as Dr. Bill Foster
Rachel "Smokeshow" Weisz as Melina Vostokoff

Also I just accidentally read the after-credits scene on IMDB, so stay away from that.

Fun trivia:
Florence Pugh refused a stunt double to jump off the Merdeka 118 in Malayasia, which is 2,722 feet tall.

Comes out 18 years to the day after Iron Man debuted on May 2, 2008.

Probably overkill, but because they're all so damn good, here's every trailer released for the movie (though I stayed away from the final one)...

The Thunderbolts are my favorite comic team(s). Each team is drastically different and none really look like this bunch, but the concepts are always fun and unique. So I've been looking forward to this film since before it was even rumored!

That Final Trailer was boring AF...is FP the only person in the movie?

Kinda funny that she more or less got her own movie after a single film appearance + part of a tv show while it took Scar Jo a decade to get one.

There's a pretty cool 3 minute featurette on Hulu (and presumably Disney+) that shows some of the practical effects from the movie, including dropping Florence Pugh off a skyscraper.

Got my XD tickets for 5 pm today! Wasn't really excited about it a few months ago but after the positive reviews and the rumors about some big end credit reveals, I decided to see it opening night.

Just got out. We really enjoyed it. Even my wife, who knows nothing about the characters, loved it from beginning to end. And that end credits scene!!! Obviously don't want to spoil anything but I'm ready for this next phase!

Wanted to add that I love the arc of John Walker! He was my favorite of the bunch. Great writing

Great to hear!

Also, just FYI, according to the OP, this thread is now a spoiler thread, so no need for spoiler tags or to hold anything back.

I was just checking in, but am going to peace out until I see it for myself tomorrow night.

I can second that I loved how this movie enhances Walkers arc from Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Red Guardian was clearly influenced by the What If episodes and I love it. An actual adult theme for a movie and nicely paced. Pumped for the future of the mcu again

Just got home. Packed house at the Alamo. It was a really fun ride. You don't need to know the setup at all, imo. I thought Pugh and Dreyfus just killed it. Somehow the acting felt more honest than in recent MCU films. It was like an Avengers film turned on its side where the grimy parts would be visible.

John Walker is such a fun character. It's like JFF as a real superhero. He's clearly an arrogant punk but he's our arrogant punk!

That scene got me pumped for July. If F4 also delivers, I think we could see a nice resurgence of excitement for the MCU.

Florence Pugh and David Harbour stole the show. They have the ability to do charming, sarcastic, and funny and then turn around and hit you with real emotion moments later. Really impressed by the two of them.

I was most excited by the introduction of Bob. He's the first villain since Loki that I think has some intrigue and gray to him and staying power. He's going to ebb and flow between good and bad in this next phase if I had to guess and fill that void of Loki. I doubt he'll be a big bad force, but remain a solid wild card character.

Best marvel film in quite awhile, and I while I haven't fallen off the train, I can recognize the flaws with Marvel recently. Very tonally consistent even with a third act I wasn't expecting. All of these characters just riffed off each other so ****ing well

Kudos to Lewis Pullman. Dude was having to play a really difficult role

Legitimate laughs and some heartfelt scenes that were really well done e

1. It's fun
2. Act 1&2 is terrific
3. Act 3 drags a bit
4. The rotten tomatoes score is inflated. It's not a top 8-10 marvel movie.
5. It is the best Marvel movie since Endgame
6. The second post credit scene is huge
7. The movie must be seen as it has immediate and major implications immediately for Marvel

Taskmaster must not have gotten the updated fighting patch… literally blew her brains out like 15 minutes into the movie.

When Bob was the Void, and just stood there with his head cocked sideways… was so creepy, I loved it!!

The way this movie takes depression/anxiety head on from the first monologue to the end of the movie was like WOW!!

Post credit 2, WHAT IF that scene is how F4 starts? The movie starts with them coming to 616… and the whole movie is them telling the story of how and why they got to earth… almost how love and thunder was.

This movie was a visually refreshing, in the sense it didn't feel just drowned in VFX and CGI, it felt extremely practical.

Charles the Hater Holmes actually kind of enjoyed Thunderbolts. He gave it a STRONG 7 which is basically a 9

I wondered how they made Sentry so dark, and I assume they used that Vantablack paint. It's a simple (or not so simple) thing but using practical effects somehow made it all seem much more authentic, gritty, and vulnerable

$11.5 million in Thursday previews.

That's 69th all time (nice) but $500,000 LESS than Captain America; A Whole New World (don't you dare close your eyes). Hopefully word of mouth gets it revved up

The Marvel ledger for previews that made more money (not including the Sony Tom Holland Spidermans) or Deadpool & Wolverine is:

Endgame $60m
Inf War $39m
Dr Strange 2 $36m
Thor 4 $29m
BP 2 $28m
Avengers 2 $27.6m
BP 1 $25.2m
Civil War $25m
Cap Marvel $20.7m
Avengers 1 $18.7m
GOTG 3 $17.5m
Ant-man 3 $17.5m
GOTG 2 $17m
Ragnarok $14.5m
Black Widow $13.2m
Cap 4 $12m

Saw it today, and it felt like a return to form for Marvel. It's a big change from the more family friendly ones they've been putting out lately.

Also Bob is great

The Yelena/Bob dynamic felt very reminiscent of Natasha/Bruce Banner

Fun movie, many laughs. Average plot.

Wasn't "Bob" also called "Bob" in Top Gun Maverick? So is this on purpose and just a random coincidence?

My son and I really liked it. I think it accomplished what it set out to, in terms of setting up this Thunderbolts team and their particular team personality (i.e. despite Valentina's proclamation this team is not supposed to be The Avengers with an "Avengers" personality).

I also think this team fits together and has chemistry together. The humor hits exactly like its supposed to; in other words, the humor wasn't supposed to be laugh out loud knee slappers. This was a darker than normal Marvel movie with moments of light humor to keep the movie and characters from being too dismal. Mission accomplished.

The internet haters, like Critical Drinker, admit they went into the movie wanting to hate it. They're looking for reasons to complain, for example expecting all of the characters to be as fully developed as the Avengers were in Phase 3. So take their criticism with a large dose of salt.

I don't remember his name in TG, but Sentry's name in the comics is actually Bob, so I guess just a coincidence.

That was so well done. I have to agree that the plot was average, nothing special, but the characters made the movie. I really liked Yelena and Red Guardian, there was some real human emotion there amid the comedy. I only vaguely recalled Ghost from Ant-Man. Bucky was Bucky. But damn did I really like John Walker. He has a good back story. I love the fact that 80s bad ass Kurt Russell's son is following in his dad's footsteps of potentially becoming a bad ass in his own right.

Bob - that guy is going to be type cast. If a script calls for a Bob, he's your guy.

Elaine Benes was fun to watch.

Who was the congressman who was grilling Elaine at the beginning of the movie? His face was familiar. Was that the guy who played Admiral James Greer in the Jack Ryan series?

Guy has been in a lot. I always think of him as the dad in Suits to Megan Markle's character

I knew Wyatt Russell was Kurt Russell's son, but I didn't make the connection of Bob (Lewis Pullman) being Bill Pullman's (Independance Day) son.
