That was a lot better film than I went in to expecting. The to plot was fine, but the exploration of depression was I thought really well done.

This sounds cheesy, but depression was the really villain of the movie.
I've been really fighting depression the last month or two and it was a surprise to see it covered so specifically. And Yelena's answer to Bob was spot on. Other people can't make the void go away, but they can help reduce its impact on you and keep you away from plunging in.

Six years ago, in April/May 2019, we celebrated the return of half of a fictional universe that had been blipped away. A year later, during April/May 2020, we were fighting a different kind of personal isolation in real life.

I wonder if this movie, five years later, will serve as a bit of catharsis, remembrance, and acceptance of our failings and the failings of others. Even the loner misfits (especially the loner misfits!?) need help from others occasionally. Rarely are you better off alone.

I can't decide if this switch to New Avengers is an absolutely genius marketing move, or if it's just going to confuse people. Regardless, I think this has been one of the most creatively marketed movies I've ever seen. I appreciate the extra effort they are putting in.

Really strong Tuesday at the domestic box office - $7.5 m after a $5m Monday. If it holds that level of interest on Wed/Thur it will hit $100m before the second weekend.

I saw it on Tuesday at 1045am. Theater was half full. Usually there are maybe 2-3 of us there.

I'm glad everyone liked this movie - and I did as well - but I think the main feeling I have upon leaving the theater is that I wanted a little more. I'm not sure what, but more. More time with these characters? More meat to the story? Something.

It feels like they took too long to get to the vault, and after that they go to the Watchtower and then the street out front. And that's it. There are really only 6 characters (plus Val), but I'd say Ghost, Bucky and Alexei were all underserved.

It's just strange. It's sort of like a phase 1 origin film in that you get 2, 2 1/2 action sequences and leave the theater wanting more adventures with these characters. And we will, soon, which is great. But I also wonder where the time went. Maybe too much time wasted with "Mel" and a weird Bucky congressman subplot, or too much Red Guardian humor, and not enough legitimate bonding and development for anyone outside of Yelena and Bob?

I'm probably forgetting a lot of good stuff but that's kinda how I feel after. And this director is rumored to be getting X-Men. I hope it's not a "Wolverine and friends" repeat like X1-3.

I thought Bucky was going to be the lead of the movie up until about a month ago. Now it just feels like they saw him in the building while they were filming and decided to put a costume on him. He's too cool of a character to just have the random 5-10 appearances in movies. I would have taken a 10-minute "waiting or whatever" scene of him, Hopper and John Walker comparing powers and side effects.

A successful X-Men needs to be the polar opposite of the last one, and sideline Wolverine to being some sort of berzerker that only shows up once in a while; They need to figure out whose story it is and find really great actor/actresses to play it. Patrick Stewart was a great actor but he got sidelined/killed in all 3 of the first gen X-Men movies. Cyclops is lame AF in every iteration except the cartoon. My gut instinct would be to pick one male and one female that we haven't had stuffed down our throats and have it tell their stories of joining the X-Men and becoming leaders. No idea who that would be. Storm would be my gut reaction for the female - Halle Berry was hot, but nothing like the comic book Storm. For the guys? Dunno, my favorites as a kid were always Iceman and Colossus, but not sure either of them is a big enough character in the lore to be the lead.

We've never gotten a depiction of Rogue, shockingly. I have to think she finally gets her due.

(I'm not counting Anna Paquin).

We can believe Steve Rogers can pull down a helicopter, jump a motorcycle over a fighter jet, and randomly fall several hundred feet at a time without even a bruise, but a super solider driving a limo 150 miles an hour for 8 hours straight (1,200 miles) is where moviegoers draw the line

Movie dropped 72% Friday to Friday, we'll see what the whole weekend is, but made $9 million on Friday to get past $100m to $104m. That is however $1.7m more than Brave New World made on its second weekend. It had a very front-loaded box office because of President's Day Weekend and was at $120m after 8 days and $141m after the second weekend, but nosedived from there. Also slightly better than Ant-Man 3's second Friday ($8.3m) in February of 2023.

I just got out. I think this is the first movie I've seen in theater since I became a father last summer, and it was a great one to get back into the theater for. Peak Marvel, the family stuff hit me in the feels, and I really liked the message it had to say.

But also, $17 for a movie ticket - jeeeeeez.

Thunderbolts made $33m for the weekend, a 55% dropoff, but way less than the dropoffs of recent MCU stuff. Won the weekend over SInners ($21m). Up to $128m domestic. Brave New World dropped off 68% and made $28m its second weekend.

Not sure I'd say it wasn't good. But it got a little over "meh" from my entire family. And we all went in really excited. The jokes were flat and forced imo. Interesting idea, just not what I was expecting.

That said, we all loved the F4 trailer. That movie looks cool.

No. I draw the line at lazy writing. You think that Robert Downey Jr or Chris Evans would have accepted lazy writing for a plot point that was sacrificed for a few cheap laughs? Maybe so, but to me it signifies that if Marvel will try to pass off lazy writing for the new direction of the studio, then there isn't much hope for the future of the company.

If you really think that scene was set 1200 miles from Balitmore, Md (which would put it in Lincoln, Nebraska), then I have a ski chalet in Kansas available for purchase.

You know, you are right. I have invested way too much time into discussing the egregious continuity errors present in a mid to lower level marvel super hero movie. The $5.41 that I paid to go watch this was on par with what I would have spent to see The Naked Gun 2 1/2.

Doesn't the first Iron Man have Tony flying his suit from California to Afghanistan and back near instantly?

And doesn't the first Captain America have cap fighting Red Skull in a plane that flies from Germany to the Antarctic in, like, 10 minutes?

Let's not worry about travel times in these movies.
