Y'all have no idea what a super hero movie should look like.
I'm sorry but this was straight garbage.

Refresh my memory, besides the original Superman, 1989 Batman, and plenty would say Batman Returns, what pre-2000 superhero movies were good?

My guess is the poster thinks the 78 Superman movie is the pinnacle of superhero films and it's been downhill ever since.

I'm in the "this movie sucked" camp. I couldn't wait for it to be over. The whole story seemed dumb and a waste of time.
Maybe I'm just getting too old and have lost my love for super hero movies.

We just got back from seeing it. Fun movie! The tone was a welcome relief from the previous DC grimness. Action was good, characters were pretty well developed despite all that was going on.

Our biggest nitpick was that Brosnahan played Lois a bit too much like Maisel. Interesting to see what happens with the Hall of Justice going forward. We gonna get Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, etc.?

Saw it this afternoon, not what I expected(not sure what I expected), but still thought it was a really good and fun movie. I think he did a good job of playing Superman like Christopher Reeve. At first I rolled my eyes a little with the pocket universe thing, thinking they were already jumping into multiverse crap but it worked well enough.

Other than the people in the theater that yelled "free Palestine" a few times during the movie, it was great experience. Easily the best Superman since the first Reeve movie.

I have noticed that everyone is pretty much considering the message from Superman's parents as authentic, when I dont think it is conclusive at all. Mr Terrific says that there is no way the Comouter guys would say it is authentic unless it really was, but there were two different things going on - verifying the message was real, but also there were "X" number of linguistics translating what the message said into English.

I think future movies could easily change the message by just saying g the linguists were paid off by Lex to come up with a fake message.

I don't know if they will ever go that way, but it seems like an out that a lot of people are overlooking.

For someone who followed the comics to a precise point in all other aspects of this movie, I really don't think James Gunn is changing Jor El to be evil. I expect eventually the full message will come out and I think if it's like the '78 Jor El message he might indeed say "rule over them but with goodwill and kindness and help them because they have great potential" or whatever it was he said. This movie was Earth's linguists and sensational media jumping to conclusions about a language they couldn't fully translate so I'm sure it was either a misunderstood message or possibly Zod making him say it but I think it's the former.

Just my theory lol.

I really like Gunn, but he certainly has a way of coming off like an a*hole sometimes when people have questions. It's like he doesn't grasp that most of us saw it one time, didn't sit with it for 2 years.

Just got back. Thought it was bonkers and a lot of fun. Nicholas Hoult's Lex was superb. Mr. Terrific stole every scene he was in. I liked how it dropped us in the middle of Superman being Superman and didn't waste time with the origin story we all know. Also I am here for party girl Supergirl.

Connect the dots here for us?

A kid born in 2001 was 7 years old when the MCU started and lived through the height of its popularity when they were 17-18.

Apparently Gunn doesn't understand the difference between a REAL MESSAGE and a MISTRANSLATION of said real message. It is not that complicated and he could have easily sealed that hole by having the robots confirm it, but he didn't.

Exactly, no one ever actually proves the translation is real just that the message is real.
Its an alien language, how are scientists from Earth translating it 100% accurately.

and personally, I'm not a fan of the change if it turns out to be true.
I do like the interaction with his Dad at the farm, about how Clark isnt beholden to whatever the message says and how he determines his path.

Im no comic book expert, so maybe this is a story line they have done before but it doesnt feel right.

I'll just throw this out there - I thought Ma and Pa Kent were kind of putting on an act of being simple folk in order to protect the secret of where he is from and who he is. When Pa Kent gives him the speech, I thought both his voice and his vocabulary were noticeably more civilized.

It's a departure for sure from the typical story. I get what Gunn is going for, it's a bit too neat that Kal-El is the son of good people who is raised by good people and turns out to be a good person. This is, I imagine, intended to give a little weight to his choices and probably to set up some of the tension that Supergirl is dealing with since she grew up in Kryptonian culture.

Looks like a strong hold domestically for Superman in its second weekend….Saturday showing an estimated 38% drop from opening Saturday and Sunday showing an estimated 44% drop off….friday is skewed due to opening Friday also encompassing the early Tue-Thur releases….

So again showing a strong hold domestically but dang international still looks sucky….but Box office mojo is still showing those international numbers as "estimated" and not sure why they would be after a whole week….

But with F4 coming out this weekend it'll be interesting to see what Superman does going forward….

I guess removing "... and the American way" didn't work out for them like they thought it would. They should edit the movie to return that classic Superman line to the movie.

Saw it Saturday and really enjoyed it. Hawk Girl didn't really stand out but I thought the rest of the Justice Gang were great including Noho Hank. At the end of the day it is a James Gunn movie and James Gunn gonna James Gunn. I am expecting the tone to stay the same for the rest of the movies and series so I can see him bringing in a new Batman for this universe and letting Pattinson do his own thing.

Saw it last night, and it cleared the low bar I set for it like I do for most American movies these days. I was quite entertained and thought they got the cast of characters right. The foundation for Superman is optimism and they did that quiet well.

Been ruminating on it for a few days, and i really really really liked it. It was the most "comic book" movie ever made. Reminded me a ton of All-Star Superman. I like how they left doors open for more Bizarro, and for the Engineer to show up again. So much of the dialogue was comic style exposition, lines that generally noone would ever say out loud but worked in this context. Justice Gang was fun. I had a few Metamorpho comics as a kid and was fascinated by him and never thought i'd get to see him on a big screen, so i was super pumped to see him do his thing.

My only real quibble was when Superman goes to his fortress and sits in that chair and they play the clips of him and his sets of parents, it seemed maybe too innocent. Like Clark was a baby in a crib looking up at a mobile or something.

Hot take incoming but movie didn't really do anything for me. Didn't hate it or love it. It went full comic book but didn't really have any heart or humor like most of GotG does. Kinda felt nothing while watching it I think because it went wayyyy too into comic book mode. It was purely a popcorn flick.

My hot take is that I like Man of steel better and probably even like Superman returns better. It had more heart/emotion to it even though it pretty much got **** on by everyone.

Finally saw it over the weekend and really enjoyed it.

Rachel Brosnahan was a perfect fit for Lois Lane. I liked the overall theme of humanizing Superman, it was a more authentic version of him than what we typically see. Gunn did a great job of not making it too serious - which has been the tendency with Superman and DC films in general. I can see how some Superman purists might be turned off by the silly moments, but as a huge GotG fan I liked this kind of Superman film. The scene of Mr. Terrific having his 'Yondu' moment with the music playing and Lois looking on in shock was a chef's kiss. I kept waiting for some kind of 'controversial messaging' but there wasn't any of that. The line where Superman talks about being human was fitting and tied it together nicely.

I like the direction this is heading.

They did seem like a bit of a caricature, and probably my biggest criticism of the film. I'm not saying they needed a Kevin Costner or Diane Lane again, but it seemed odd.

However, after that last scene of Superman looking at all the images of them raising him as a child, I think I see what Gunn was trying to do. I think he was trying to draw a major contrast between the Kents and Superman's birth parents, who appeared so perfect. The Kents aren't polished, yet Superman looks to them as his source of joy because of how they loved him and the values they instilled in him. On the surface it doesn't make sense, but you see the depth and there's more than meets the eye. Kind of like Superman himself.
