We already covered this earlier in the thread.
So *some* government censorship is okay as long it's not *full* government censorship. Got it. You're essentially arguing that it's okay for the government to threaten free speech in certain instances, as long as they're not threatening all instances.
Please tell me you understand how stupid this sounds.
I'll say this and then I'm done here. The FCC didn't fire Kimmel. They didn't censor Kimmel. ABC wasn't coerced by the FCC. ABC chose to cancel his show after the local affiliate chains told them they were choosing to stop broadcasting his vitriol based on the public's response to Kimmel's own free speech from his program.
Freedom of speech doesn't mean you can say anything you want without consequence. Kimmel can still go say whatever he wants, just not on that particular platform. He 100% brought it on himself.
Tell me you haven't read the full thread without telling me you haven't read the full thread.
Because we've been over this a thousand times already.
The FCC/Carr absolutely threatened the affiliates. That objectively happened, proof of which has been posted here ad nauseam.
To say that they weren't coerced by that threat is a blind hope at best, especially considering THEY NEED THE FCC'S APPROVAL TO PERFORM AN UNPRECEDENTED MERGER.
Of course the FCC didn't fire Kimmel, and of course free speech isn't free of employer consequences. Again, we've all said as much over and over and over in this thread.
But you are being willfully ignorant to the chain of events that happened in this particular instance.
