We didn't even learn he was gay until deep into season 2 (I think?) when he wakes up in bed with a man.

The difference between this and 'woke' shows that shove 'inclusion' down your throat is in a woke show, you find out he's gay because there will be a full-frontal scene of gay sex early on in the show.

There were strong hints just short of confirmation in mid to late season 1, but your point stands. Nowadays they would have announced it up front and he would have just been used as a device for political preachiness. It's crazy how much has changed in the last 10 years, and I can't believe more cannot see it.

The best awards show opening ever, Ricky Gervais, who is in the entertainment industry, calling out Hollywood for being woke hypocrites.

Yeah, it's a comedy bit. Like every comedy bit, there are strands of truth in the joke. Sometimes really big strands.

As a leo, Southland is probably the most modern day depiction of cops on the street. The day today struggles of work, private life and personal demons. Barney Miller show for us old heads, on the verge of retirement or who threaten to retire yet never do.
Can't decide if I want to be cute & cuddly, or go blow some sh*t up.

God, that is SO good. How was it perceived by "Hollywood" I wonder. You see a lot of smug faces in the crowd but also hear a lot of laughs/cheers.

Guessing most of them take themselves too seriously to realize.

It was perceived as "this guy is committing social seppeku on live TV". If you want to sit at the cool kids table in the Hollywood cafeteria, you will conform. I think it's why it's such a hard pill to swallow that the things that get you social credit boosts in LA also lose your studio $100 million dollars at the box office.

Miss the old days when right wing and leftist would put their policies aside and make a movie together. John Wayne and Kirk Douglas did it in Harms Way. Look at the movie The Longest Day. How many actors and actresses were right wing and leftist, yet made a master piece of a movie.

Hollywood went full send one direction and then are crying because they are losing money.

I mean they had him host five times and he made similar style jokes each time. Clearly it wasn't that outrageous.

That must be why Tom Hanks didn't look shocked by his comments.

He went off that last time though in a manner I had never seen him do before if I remember correctly. Wasn't just a couple of little jabs. It clearly was different as it went pretty viral. Also, has been invited back since?

He said he it was his last time he would host during his opener in 2020. Not sure if they tried to get him back despite that.

Well he's telling a bunch of self worshiping narcissists to stop preaching like they know what the hell they are talking about, so I am assuming most didn't like it….even many who are laughing out loud. People are free to think most of them loved being called out though I guess.

85 inch tv and no heavy breathing fat ahole near me digging into his bag of skittles like he's looking for the golden skittle at the bottom of the bag is why my theater experience is limited to 2-3 per year. I turn out for the greats I can't wait for (not many of these in a year) or those that should be a visual spectacle on the big screen.

Went to Mario Galaxy today. Holy crap it was loud. Like uncomfortably loud. I think I might be joining team stream at home. Bad experience and really effin expensive.

That was one of the best parts of the monologue, his consistent "I don't care" reply to their response to his jokes.

My favorite part is always the line when he tells them to not give a political speech because most of them spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg, and have no clue about the real world, so they're in no position to lecture anyone.

There was a pretty decent cop show on prime or Netflix recently that had some of the grit of Southland, but definitely had a decent dose of THE MESSAGE, but was still good overall. Can't recall what it was called. Female lead with young Hispanic trainee with her.

Most of the comments in this thread center around what is left out or forbiden. What can, or can't, get made. Restraints on the artistic process etc. etc. And, those play a part.

The "Hollywood death spiral" also has alot to do with what is being left in, forced in. Ask any parent...

The "Oh sh**" moments for this demographic are contributing, no doubt. Many do not go and will wait to stream so they have the opportunity to pre-screen the content.

there's some cut up videos of him discussing this during a stand up show and when he talks about having to give the monologue ahead of time to a room of 10 lawyers it's friekin hilarious!

So its sexist and ****ty to acknowledge men and women work and think differently? Granted, he hasn't presented any facts to back up his theory - buts its plausible given that men and women (in general) do not think/work in exactly the same way or with the same motivations.

Lol. Yes, and I'm not sure why this is remotely controversial. It's basic wiring. We are simple dumb creatures that can think linearly or not at all, if we need to. Women...not so much.
