You can briefly see Elsa and Donovan watching Indy from behind in one shot.

That mushroom cloud scene does work for me as well. I just remember sitting in the theater on opening night thinking it was not right for an Indiana Jones movie, it just took me a little bit of time to get to liking that sequence.

The jungle chase was fine per se, it was the Tarzan and the monkeys vine swinging that was laughable. I never had a problem with the giant ants, either, given that it felt like another one of those "how will our heroes escape the hordes of ants?" old movie serial style of cliffhanger moments.

Agree with a lot of the sentiments here, and I don't have a lot to bring to the ROTLA discussion -- BUT....

Regarding the debated nuclear scene in Crystal Skull, it apparently is a rehash or repurposing of the original written ending for Back to the Future. Marty and Doc were supposed to go to a nuclear site, but the ending was rewritten because it was too expensive. Marty was supposed to hide in a fridge -- but there were also worries kids would see it and hide in fridges themselves.

Jon Cryer -- broke it down:

The leap of faith path always bothered me. Why would the rocks stay there for the next group? It wasn't an invisible bridge. Beat it once and it's good forever I guess...maybe letter rocks turned off for the same reason.

Indy threw dust and pebbles over the bridge from the other side once he crossed.

The bridge was real, it wasn't actually invisible but it blended in with the rock walls. The rocks/sand weren't going anywhere unless they were blown off.

If that's the case what was the leap of faith? Could he have not just toe tapped or thrown rocks in front of him once he realized the test?

He couldn't see the bridge. There was a big step down so he couldn't just feel it. It had the appearance of a bottomless chasm. It literally required a leap of faith.

It didn't look like it was below him but pretty even with the ledge. So if he threw rocks down in front of him it wouldn't hit something? Think I'd do that before closing my eyes and just stepping over. I interpreted it as actually believing would make God save you with the bridge.

Note this is a top 10 movie of all time for me, not trying to crap on it. I just recall thinking this as a nitpick in the theater as a 12yo.
