If this goes according to plan there will be multiple starship launches per day

I haven't really looked into that much but how are they planning on having sufficient LOX to support the proposed launch cadence? Are they going to start producing in the valley?

Yes

Quote:

SpaceX is building its own plant at Starbase to produce liquid oxygen (LOX) and liquid nitrogen (LN2) on-site. This facility will be an air separation plant, and its construction has already begun, which will drastically reduce the need for trucking in these propellants for launches.
Facility: SpaceX received approval to build an air separation plant next to its Starbase launch pads.
Function: The plant will take in air, condense it, and separate it into liquid oxygen and liquid nitrogen.
Logistics: The generated cryogenic fluids will be piped directly to ground storage tanks at the launch site, a pipeline of about 1,000 feet.
Purpose: This on-site production is intended to support the high-frequency launch cadence expected from Starship and reduce the volume of resupply-related traffic, like delivery trucks.

Wonder if that aft flap is a location where they went without tiles

I think they said during the broadcast that they left some off the leading edge of one of the aft fins.

Does anybody know whether or not the tiles work sufficiently if they aren't missing them? Seems like they have had extensive damage every launch. As far as I know, they haven't had one where it didn't burn through somewhere. If they can't get that figured out, then the whole rapid reuse mission is toast, since having to scrape off and reapply ablative material every launch ruins everything.

The burn throughs are occuring where SpaceX has intentionally removed them for the most part. Now the tiles are also falling off in spots and that's not on purpose.

Quote:

For reentry, tiles have been removed from Starship to intentionally stress-test vulnerable areas across the vehicle. Several of the missing tiles are in areas where tiles are bonded to the vehicle and do not have a backup ablative layer.

lol that's what I was wondering at first. Looks like right outside of Star Factory though. Pretty good viewing spot.

Wow... I just measured it... 2 miles. (sound delay confirms that as well)

Yeah that's with the VIPs just over 2 miles away I believe.

But yeah we are a long way from really rapid re-use at the moment - even without all of the missing tiles due to testing. I'm guessing right now (and it's a complete guess) it would take at least 4-6 weeks of prep to send one up again which is still kind of mind blowing at this very early stage of development.

Isn't McAllen about 50 miles away?

The light is from the right. Isn't that from South Padre Island?

One of the senstors (Tuberville maybe?) was blocking his confirmation because of his views on privatizing the space missions. Wanted to protect NASA bloat in Huntsville I believe.

Musk tried to operate DOGE, head of personnel Sergio Gor didn't like Musk's meddling, Musk lashed out at Gor, Gor pulled support of Isaacman as retaliation (citing donations to Democratic candidates despite donating to Trump's campaign), Gor didn't get permanent security clearance (June, unclear his country of origin, Malta says not from Malta, says he's from Uzbekistan when still Soviet), Gor assigned as India Ambassador last month, Scavino replaces Gor within the last week, opening for Isaacman nomination returns.

I'm sure there's politics with relationship to Alabama/Huntsville, but it was reportedly Gor and his feud with Musk that caused Isaacman's nomination to be pulled. Isaacman is Musk's preferred appointee. Isaacman being pulled was the cause of the Trump/Musk rift.
