The engines blowing exhaust over the wings in this old Soviet design produce lift even when the plane is moving very slowly, allowing it to use very short runways. It is believed to be a response to a US program that was later canceled. Here is Boeing's entry:

Nah. I actually find the A-10's aesthetic to be pleasing. In the same way classic cars from a certain era were chunky and sort of awkward but still looked cool and "right".

I didn't say it didn't work. I just said I hated it.

The admiration for the looks of the A-10 relate directly to the knowledge of the effectiveness of its lethality. They didn't name it the warthog because of the pleasing lines.

I'm not sure how many drone enthusiasts have grasped this larger lesson.

"Expertise is not a drone, but a skill, a strategy, a system where a drone is one part of the defense," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told Reuters on Monday."

More O&G facilities struck.

Anyone else see it reported that Russia had 35k losses in March alone?

Would this be a retreat , an advancement, or a change of equipment to a different part of the front

Yes. The current goal is 50k a month. So far this year Ukraine is killing more Russians than are being recruited.

Geeze. How many Russians on the front? At that rate is there a timetable for how soon Ukraine can push the out?

I have been watching for a long time. IMO its not a matter of the Ukrainians pushing out the russians. Its a matter of putin realizing the cost of holding Ukrainian territory isn't worth the losses, they are absorbing on the front but now more importantly 1800KM away, and putin recalling his forces to X line.

Ukes have taking back some ground (500km2) but its very slow and TBH I think they are better off destroying assets far beyond the front than the front itself, waiting on orcs to pull back in order to preclude further losses in the rear.

There have been some chatter about Ukes on the south bank of the Dnipro river but I think were still aways out from that being meaningful. IMO if Ukes could get back 25 KM on south or left bank they would let orcs have the rest.

The current rate at which they are producing and deploying long range drones is almost miraculous. Of note to me their long range strikes are almost all O&G and the MIC. At mid range to short its mostly destruction of SEAD which supports the long range mission and opens up additional capabilities such as the UKE air assets. They are not even prioritizing distant russian air and sea bases not seeing them as the biggest threat, bit eventually they will be hitting them as well. On the front the cheap drones are so saturated they don't always hit the vehicles first now and simply just chase down and kill every single soldier in the vicinity. Orc suicides is super high right now.

The latter, mostly. Any retreating by Russia would be a byproduct of this if Ukraine pushed the sector that lost the supplies.

This is insane. Russia had serious birth rate and pop stagnation issues well before the war started in '22. Putin is single handedly destroying not only the Russian military but the Russian nation. With those low birth rates a country can only bleed so much. And this is the kind of crap that is very difficult to come back from.

Stupid !!!

I only say this half jokingly, but how much longer does this war need to drag out before Ukraine starts to deploy platoons of these?

Right now he's only forcing in the "undesirable" part of the Russian society. But, soon he may to have to start dipping into the actual desirable part...

It might be, though DeepStateMap corroborates the massing of troops in the last few months in the Zaporizhzhia oblast. Russia is getting frustrated, so they may be moving heavy equipment to try and make a difference in this direction.

Ukraine is routinely using UGVs for medical evacuation.

"Ukraine's First Separate Medical Battalion said it completed six successful casualty evacuation missions in a single day using unmanned ground vehicles. The battalion said the missions were carried out over a 24-hour period and focused on extracting wounded troops from combat positions under constant pressure from Russian first-person-view attack drones.

These systems, commonly referred to in Ukraine as ground robotic complexes, are typically remote-controlled wheeled or tracked vehicles built to move across damaged roads, cratered terrain, and debris-strewn routes close to the front. In addition to casualty evacuation, they are increasingly being used to carry ammunition, supplies, and other essential equipment."

Ukraine is employing a new suicide USV with self-defense capability to help it penetrate to target.

"A newly identified Ukrainian sea drone fitted with a remotely operated machine-gun mount was spotted during a recent strike attempt on Russia's naval base at Novorossiysk."

Z-channels are very unhappy that the government spent 80 billion not on the war but on blocking the internet in Russia

"Blocking Telegram is shooting yourself in the balls and provoking hatred from the broad masses

80 billion rubles was allocated for installing blocking equipment (TSPU) at operators

The price of one Pantsir missile is about $20,000 (about 1.6 million rubles)

Instead of fighting Telegram, one could have bought approximately 50,000 missiles for the Pantsir air defense system

~50,000 missiles for air defense is real resistance to UAV attacks"

AFU attacks near Stepnohirsk

In West Zaporizhia, the situation is deteriorating.

Russian forces have lost control over Novoyakovlivka, now firmly held by the enemy. Pavlivka was also lost after Ukrainian drones disrupted supplies.

The AFU continues active attacks toward Kamianske, Plavni, Stepove, and Lobkove. The situation there looks very tense.

After failing to break through in East Zaporizhia, the enemy has shifted its main efforts to this sector. If they manage to restore the line along Kamianske Stepove Maly Shcherbaky, Russian positions could be pushed back to early 2025 levels.

Overly optimistic claims about "liberated" settlements where only small groups briefly enter are problematic. The fact that the AFU is still using the crossing from Hryhorivka to reach Stepnohirsk and Plavni suggests the situation is far from stable.

This is great, because Russia has fought hard for that approach to Zaporizhzhia (the city, not the oblast). To see it all pissed away would be beautiful.
