While Israel does their best to avoid killing non-combatives they do accept a higher level of casualties than we do. It sucks there will be women and children dying, doesn't matter on what side.

With the understanding that you could be joking, Abu literally means "father of". So Mahmoud Abu Watfa is Mahmoud, father of Watfa. It's an Islamic tradition to "rename" men in this way once they have a child (typically a son).
