Apparently it was the Zayed family.
There has been a growing pushback on Hamas from what I can tell. I guess Israel has armed some.

Let the clans clean out HAMAS.

HAMAS was hiding at the hospital, who would have thought.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14857115/Hamas-October-7-attack-killed-Israeli-airstrike-IDF.html

Quote:

The Hamas chief allegedly behind the attacks on October 7 has been killed by an Israeli airstrike, according to the Israel Defence Forces (IDF).

In a post on X on Saturday, the IDF reported it 'eliminated' Hakham Muhammad Issa Al-Issa in a targeted airstrike on the Sabra neighbourhood of Gaza on Friday.

Describing him as both 'one of the founders of Hamas' military wing' and Hamas itself, it said: 'Issa led Hamas' force build-up, training, and planned the October 7 massacre.'

It continued: 'As Head of Combat Support, he advanced aerial & naval attacks against Israelis.'

The attacks on October 7, 2023, saw thousands of Hamas fighters storm into southern Israel where they killed 1,320 Israelis and took a further 251 hostage.

The IDF claims Al-Issa 'played a significant role in the planning and execution' of the attack as well as serving as Head of the Training Headquarters.

The post also suggests he is 'one of the last remaining senior Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip' and 'a key source of knowledge'.

'The IDF & ISA will continue to locate and eliminate all terrorists involved in the October 7 massacre,' they added.

Checking back in on this 'little' conflict.

Sad:

Eerily and sadly similar to our occupation of Iraq/Afghanistan... Probably going to see a lot of 20-somethings needlessly being killed by IEDs throughout the area while the occupation lasts.
Wars are fought by 18--26 year olds since the dawn of time, so yep. Average age of an Army Captain in WWII was 26, not Tom Hanks, like how Hollywood protrays things.
FWIW - my grandfather was 32 and an Army Captain when he was captured at Salerno in 1943. His experience and what little he was able to share about it is the reason I could only get through "Saving Private Ryan" the one time I saw it.

If I were Bibi and Israel, this is what I'd do. I'd broadcast the name, image and last known location of every remaining Hamas leadership into Gaza and place a $1M USD bounty on their heads. Anyone that delivers the head of anyone on that list in a bag to an IDF checkpoint will be granted safe passage for them and their families to anywhere they'd like to go and given the bounty. They'd also be granted safe passage to return to Gaza after it's rebuilt. Let the Palestinians hunt them down and behead them.

When 'news' morons lament the cries of Mahmoud Khalil or Ilhan Omar etc. about 'free, free Palestine!' etc. it should be noted Hamas is negotiating when to return the corpses still of a 2 year old raid on civilians at a music festival. And 8-10 remaining survivors. It's just infuriating 'these people' are taken seriously.

Frankly, I am angry Trump hasn't taken a typical on-brand hardline against Qatar either. I don't care about the 747 or Boeing orders.

Not defending the Qataris, but they have for decades been notorious for playing both sides of the street. In that, they have utility for both sides, and are getting filthy rich off of it.

The Qatari's have now told Hamas leadership to lay down arms. Not sure really what this might lead to. Hamas is rapidly running out of friends, though.
Quote:

Quote:

Doha-based senior Hamas leaders have been told to lay down their arms as part of the efforts to reach a ceasefire deal with Israel, according to a Thursday morning report from The Times newspaper. ...

The Times stated that those told to lay down their weapons were "the most senior Hamas leaders outside Gaza, including the lead negotiator Khalil al-Hayya and other key figures."
One of the key figures reportedly included Hamas political bureau member Zaher Jabareen, "a founder of the group's military wing in the West Bank."

An additional bureau member told to lay down weapons was Muhammad Ismail Darwish, who had "met the leaders of Iran and Turkey this year while shuttling between Cairo and Doha for indirect negotiations with Israel," the report said.
The Times credits this as a "symbolic reflection of Hamas' interest in the ceasefire proposal," but that doesn't make much sense. If Hamas wanted to send that kind of signal, their Qatar contingent would have voluntarily and unilaterally disarmed. They wouldn't have needed the Qataris to order them to disarm.

That makes this sound like a much different kind of signal. The Qataris are likely as tired of playing the Hamas Hokey Pokey as everyone else, for one thing, while their leadership fattens up on "aid" meant for Palestinians. However, it may mean more than that, especially after the strike on Fordow by Trump and the B-2 bombers. That didn't just send a signal to Tehran, but to Doha as well -- and the rocket fire on Qatar afterward probably didn't help, either.

Not sure how to handle possibly accurate reporting in the Bezos Post. Need more coffee.
Ordinarily, jihadist fighting season around Israel calms down a bit in the summer tourist season (Arabs need tourist revenue too). Maybe not so much this year.

I keep seeing that Israel will occupy Gaza City but not the Gaza Strip. Can someone explain the advantage of this for Israel as opposed to full occupation? Seems like Hamas will just regroup and continue on in the areas they are not monitoring daily.

it's a good point.

answer is there are still 1.7 million palestinians around so they have to keep moving them north and south.

but basically this is a clearing and holding operation

I think Gaza city is a main strong hold for hamas. It still has miles of tunnel that is operational.

It will also give them a beach head to better control aid and allow them (or someone else) to run distro without 90% being stolen.

Back when this deal was made, some people criticized Israel for this. But others theorized that Israel would track any released prisoners and eventually kill them and whoever they were with. Seems the theory was correct.
