So the grandparents, who worked and the money are not allowed to spend it in whatever legal way they desire, but rather have to save it for their children's inheritance? Wow, what an entitled comment.

There's nothing I can find in the Bible about gambling in casinos. I wouldn't waste my money like that. Some grandparents have gambled away the inheritance of their children. So it does make me pause and not see it as profitable or wise in spending money.

But if they are going to do it, then 20% goes to homeless infrastructure. Deal?

Homeless infrastructure?

You mean someone else's pocket who washes it to look like homeless infrastructure funding?

Wow casinos in Texas? There go the economies in Louisiana, Oklahoma and beyond. Now all we will need is a couple of nuclear plants and we can tell washington DC to Fk off.

It's almost as if the lobbyists from those states have more to do with keeping casino gambling illegal in Texas than do the religious/morality police and simply use the latter as their useful idiots to fight the battle on the front lines. Almost.

Is it racists to shutdown a honest American Native's Casino?

Do the tribes still run and profit from the casinos in OK?

I have no idea if that is true or not, but they would be crazy to move or really change the product too much. Any decent Mavs ticket is at least $150. Why mess with that.
Casinos are far more lucrative than a basketball team, that's probably one reason.
So why gamble if the house wins that big. Never understood it. Hope it never sees the light of day or night in Texas.

You really want to gamble but leverage your win/loss with skill, play the stock market or invest in Start-ups.

Yeah, I've got a big picture of that.
Didn't they replace a big piece of the education budget and replace it with lotto dollars? If true, it was a net gain of zero- but technically they did what they said.

Casinos are evil establishments. They prey on human concupiscence, and often disproportionately impact those with least means to afford the risk.

Instead invest in the poor and other worthwhile endeavors.

How about no? Us reasonable adults should be allowed to make sports wagers as we please.

I'll go for it if 20% of the profit made by casinos goes to job training, food, and other services for the homeless population.

Btw, is the state lotto supporting public schools?

Drug rehab would be the only way to fix it

Those other things just enable and subsidize it

You can justify any evil behavior with this sentiment.

It is clear that government should not in any way support or subsidize these establishments for the greater good, and to protect basic human dignity.

As for allowing it through the free market, that is the area of compromise.

Government trying to legislate morality rarely has the impact people hope for.

Put it up for a vote by the people of Texas, along with legalizing marijuana. Patrick refusing to put it up for a vote is failing in his duty to represent the people.

Mary J, legalized gambling, and looser abortion laws would all pass a vote in TX, that is why it will never be put up for a vote

So we shouldn't allow a vote for things the majority would vote for? Yep, that totally makes sense.

The majority would probably vote themselves a million dollars each and zero taxes.

What if the issue wasn't casinos, but merely making it legal to make sports bets online either through a website or an app on your phone? All the complaints about the bums descending into your Houston suburb and the stench of marijuana are gone now.

CNN is an enemy of the state and should be treated as such.

Would really love to see the Texas A&M Hotel, Conference Center, and Casino Resort though.

how do you keep the poor or those with no self control from using the apps, going broke and ending up on the streets anyways?

same end result

So we're back to raw, unbridled paternalism? Got it.

And yet somehow people that don't support those positions and are allegedly the ones you speak of in terms of not allowing a vote to be cast on them keep getting elected at a near 60% clip every time they run. Additionally, they are some of the more popular candidates/politicians in Texas history.

So either your assertion is correct or the facts are correct.

You don't because you don't/wont have to
The people in Texas with such a strong affinity to online sports betting are already doing so illegally.

It's interesting reading everyone's perspectives on Texas in this thread. It really highlights how different people look for different things when choosing where to live. It makes you think about all the choices we make to find enjoyment and unwind, doesn't it? Whether it's wide-open spaces or city life, everyone has their own way to relax. Speaking of online entertainment, I recently came across https://spincity777kasyno.com. For anyone in Poland looking for a bit of online fun, it seems to have a wide variety of games and some bonus offers. Just another option out there when you're considering different ways to spend your downtime
Alcohol, tobacco and lottery destroy people as well, but they're alive and well in Texas. If you can't handle the responsibility, don't do it. That goes for drinking, gambling, etc. Legalize it and get out of the stone ages.
I'd argue that alcohol destroys a lot more people than gambling does.
I disagree, because I know many addicts who have ruined their families and lives because of gambling

Why ? Its destroyed a lot of people. Besides there are legal ways in Texas to gamble. One of the best is a thing called the stock market and if you want to get really wild get an account where you can run shorts.

Casino gambling is dumb.

Well that settles it! Because no one here knows anyone whose families and lives were ruined because of drugs and alcohol!

It's called entertainment. I'm not much of a gambler but I went to Vegas for the first round of March Madness and bet on games and had an absolute blast with my buddies and the other friends we made watching those games.

Yup I gamble about 2-3 times a year. Always a good time - some people just can't handle it unfortunately.
