Based on the pics in that article, I am fine with letting Shamu have her own row.

No way would I want her cramming up against me because some FA is barking about free seating and it's a full flight.

Folks are going to get involuntarily bumped imo.

I'm tall. I demand that the seat in front of me be kept empty so they don't lean back into my legs. If SWA doesn't do this they are tall-phobic!

Is that how this works?

People are going to abuse this system. Southwest probably going to regret this decision.

This was my Father's favorite airline.

Its been run into the ground, no pun intended.

Total trash airline and experience. I wont use it for my company anymore as it has early morning flights that are cirital to my sales and technical folks rerouted and cancelled all the time.

This decision doesnt shock me as the company is run by morons. My portfolio wouldnt touch it with a 100 ft pole.

My BMI is about 25, but I identify as super fat, so I'll be needing my own row.

Passengers should have to pay by weight as that is how the costs of flying are most fairly distributed.

This is part of what makes this country so great.

Which other countries will applaud morbid obesity and mental illness and reward these genetic deadbeats with free s*** ? Huh???

The most saddening part of this policy is all of the fat people that will willingly and cheerfully accept this offer.

Sometimes when I fly, I'm really tired. Reclining the seat is pretty rude and an inconvenience to those behind me so I prefer to stretch out across my row. Will they accommodate me or are they going to be sleep-intolerant and nocturnal-phobic?

You have to think of the positives. If you get hungry, you can reach under her fat rolls or titties and get that hidden oreo she was saving for later.

But that checked bag has to fit the size and weight limits OR you pay more. Wife has long legs and has trouble in normal seats for any flight over 2 or 3 hours. But the gorditas get the deals. Right is wrong and up is down. Welcome to America 2024.

Basically yes. You have to incorporate guilt in some form. That is the catalyst.

For example: I have been banging my head into doorways that you've been walking under your whole life. You don't understand my pain!
That's how democrats do it.

Otherwise you've got nearly every ingredient you need, but you're missing the salt, so to speak.

Customers whose bodies "encroach" past the armrest are entitled to an extra seat, according to Southwest's inclusion policy.

Well maybe if these customers didn't feel entitled to 2nd and 3rd helpings at every meal they wouldn't need two seats to fit in.

Quote:

The flight team will then try to effort to make the seating arrangements, potentially moving other passengers around for the "unplanned accommodation."

So if on overweight customer shows up and demands a free seat I might have the stewardess tell me that I need to move to accomodate their belly?

**** that.

Herb Kelleher retired.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Haha, unplanned. There's no way you get to 500 pounds without some prior planning.

I'm curious how they enforce this policy on sold out flights. Does a person who requires additional seats for their size get told that the flight is sold out so they are unable to accommodate additional seats? Do they start removing people based on their size? Children? Families? Those traveling alone? I can only imagine the scene when they start trying to remove other people from a flight to accommodate one of these individuals.

Yet another reason to avoid SWA at all costs. Being 6'8" I identify as a person of size, but apparently it's only a certain person of size that is accommodated. Will SWA start reserving bulkhead and exit row seats for people of size? I won't hold my breath.

Maybe I'm 150lbs and identify as "super fat". Do I get my extra seat(s)?

I'd like to read the actual policy though. They may give extra seats* to fatty's

*on not full flights

The train of thought...I can't even...

"Super fat is how we identify," Chaney, business owner of Jae Bae Productions, said. "There's a spectrum of fatness. And as a super fat individual, you start needing different accommodations… I just felt really happy that there was something like this for people."

As I read it, unless they repurchased an extra seat, they won't get this policy on a full flight. All they are doing is giving unused seats to the obese which is good for those of us that would otherwise end up with only half a seat if they don't move that person. That said, those people tend to get the seat next to them left open on a SWA flight if it isn't full and they board relatively early.
