His brisket job is unregulated, for sure.

This picture ruined my desire for brisket.
That is a European Jewish version of brisket. It is seared with pepper and flour, removed, then tons of onions are cooked down, the brisket is returned on top of the onions, smeared with tomato paste and kosher salt, and one carrot is added, yes one. It is then roasted for a few hours then sliced. Done well, it is excellent. Do I prefer a good Texas brisket, absolutely. I do that type, my wife does this version.

This picture though...wow, that looks pitiful. Not sure you could force me to try that at a Passover or Hanukkah dinner?

That would be fine if he was Senator from European Jew-land. He's supposedly from, and represents, Texas.

I mean you can still listen to it through Apple Play that even rental cars have today.
That means the programming is available as an internet stream. What's going to support the business decision to keep the AM transmission alive?

I believe AM radio is an important medium for times of crisis but if no one is listening, those transmitters will be shutdown. Keeping AM available in cars is vital to keeping those operating.

Feels like a staffer was tasked with posting something that would seem kind of Texan and this was the image they googled up with a "brisket" search. Nobody who has ever enjoyed a real smoked brisket would even allow that pictured crap to be placed on a surface where someone might eat.

Thanks for responses. I was unaware of this issue. I personally do not listen to AM but that's primarily because I don't drive much. Obviously hope it sticks around. One less channel to get counterculture information out (conservative thought) would be bad thing for where this country is right now.

New cars have Bluetooth and smart phones make it easy to play AM stations. Problem solved.

I wrote both TX Senators and my Congressman about why I thought AM radio should continue to be available in new cars. Here were the relative responses in a nutshell.

Cornyn, yes I understand but we must be mindful of not overegulating. Followed by a 2 paragraph rant about expanding internet infrastructure. What does one have to do with the other?

Cruz, thanks for your input and I will consider it if it comes up.

Latrell - I agree and I appreciate your continued input on this and other issues . It was actually a pretty well written and well considered response that actually addressed his/his camp's reasons why they agree.

I just thought the relative responses were somewhat interesting hence this post.

So this is the straw that breaks the camel's back on overregulating, huh?
Yes. People will fight back when they've had enough. They tried this once in the 70's and resulted in the Boston soft rock/news radio party. Didn't turn into a revolt though.

AM radio reminds me of...

Listening to Dave South and Aggie Football.

Listening to the Astros with my grandpa in the barn.

I listen to a considerable amount of AM radio, but mostly through my phone streaming to the radio using Bluetooth. Occasionally I might use the actual radio tuner, but if I have wireless data, the signal is so much cleaner. Technology is slowing making it truly obsolete but there are areas with poor data coverage where some sort of tuner is still useful.

It's needed for the apocalypse or war. Pretty cheap. I say keep them in the cars. Sometimes the AM radio station in town is the only thing still going after a disaster.

That would likely require Government subsidies to keep them operating

A M radios in cars are going away because A M stations are going away because they aren't profitable

Since Rush passed, I have not had any need for AM radio.

Even then, I usually got his show on my phone.
I drive from south of Houston to Asstin every week for work. Listen to AM stations on Iheart.

- Walton & Johnson
- Michael Berry
- Clay & Buck

If not them, I'm either streaming my music or listening to true crime podcasts. The last time I attempted to listen to a FM station, it was absolutely horrible.

Fed.gov should have zero say in any consumer automobile matter. Get outta the way, we can handle this on our own.
I agree in principle but unfortunately government pressure is brought to bare on companies that often is antithetical to individual freedom and used to promote ideological bull*****
We really need to rewrite our laws concerning libel and slander.

No, auto manufacturers are deciding it is too expensive to include an AM radio tuner in new cars. But in dash GPS maps with directions, syncing with your phone, heated steering wheels & seats along with black boxes tracking your travels are absolutely needed.
I'm on board with your sarcasm here.

I would imagine the AM tuner section of a 'radio' these days was long ago reduced to a single IC that probably sells for a buck or two, and maybe even less in high quantity.

Now, the manufacturers of EV's may want to get rid of it just because the interference from the car itself will render all but the strongest AM signals unlistenable, and they don't want to hear crap that 'this radio doesn't work.' You know, eliminate complaints about poor AM reception by eliminating even the possibility of AM reception.

Now, that's thinking outside the box. Or is that coloring outside the lines?

I think the arguement us that even with the tower transmitting, the internet or cellular signals are nit as reliable as the ota signal.

Just so I understand what you're describing, is your smartphone streaming the webcast of the AM station's programming, or is it acting as an AM radio receiver? My smartphone has an FM receiver built in (most cell phones do these days), but it does not have an AM receiver.

And then see tax preparer's comment above
