The Catholic Church is not a democracy. You cannot have a popular vote on matters of faith.

Most of my devout Catholic believe the Pope is a heretic and traitor to the Church. Many of them openly say they have hoped for his demise.

He actually did this himself by refusing to submit to the authority of the Pope and rejecting much of the teachings of Vatican II. It just finally caught up to him because as you will see, his view on both have influenced many of the faithful. He had his day in court.
This Pope has proved his fallibility. And there are laity who blindly follow this failed Pope. Sad bitter pompous marxist Jesuit he is. If anything he will be known as the modern equivalent of Pope Benedict IX with his blind eye to the true problems that continue to fester.

And Vatican II gutted the church.

Absolutely. And they should also point out the outright heresy emanating from the Vatican.

Why? Because of Frankie? Seems to be a stupid reason to abandon the Faith.

You cannot be fully aware of the history of evil or sinful Papal actions, the 37 "false" pope's, the several Saints who were martyred under Papal direction and honestly believe that it is your job as a "good catholic" to blindly follow someone who wears a funny hat.

The Catholic church or "Universal Church" since it doesn't even have Christ in its name was simply the successor to the Roman empire and an extension of it which was used throughout the Middle ages and Renaissance to direct and maintain political power across Europe.

All empires if they last long enough transition into a form where the Emperor is considered a deity or an extension of deific power.

China and Japan are great examples of this.

The only way for the Roman empire to survive was through deification of its political rule.

This is why they have to use an obscure and ambiguous Bible passage to establish a basis for their power and set Peter up as the rightful inheritors to all Church direction.

Toss in there a minimum of a few decades (probably longer) of child diddling and thwarting of secular responsibility for it....and well there you have it.

Bad popes like this are proof that you can trust no man as an "elevated" religious authority. No man is above you in any hierarchy between you and God. That anyone views a pope as some type of "holy" person blows my mind. Id bet 30-40% (maybe more) of celibate catholic clergy are closet homosexuals. Not saying their haven't been great popes. There certainly have been.

Catholic LITERALLY means universal or all embracing.

The Roman All Embracing Church tells you exactly what it is in its name.

It is a church that was designed to bring all the Christ believing peoples under one rule.....an extension of the Roman empire.

I am sorry that reality hurts you but go back and read some history.

The position of Pope was used for political purposes to direct European kings and queens and provide a political check against secular power via the pretense to divine authority.

The horror……….

History shows that those first Popes were such an extension of the Empire, and so loved by the Romans that they suffered horrible deaths at their hands.

Pope John XII- killed while sleeping with another man's wife

Pope Alexander VI had numerous children despite being the head of a church where the priests were supposed to be celibate and used his political influence to arrange powerful and politically advantageous marriages for them

Sixtus IV possibly homosexual, used his political power to give lordships to his nephew and other family members.

John X had affairs with Theodora AND HER 15 year old daughter.

Benedict IX Affairs with men and wen eventually abdicated to get married

Pope Leo X a Medici who rose to the Papacy via the political and monetary power of his father. Used Papal resources to wage a war and secure a dukedom for his nephew.

I could go on.

There seems to be alot of insistence among the most vociferous Catholics that the martyrdom of the early Christian church extended to the Catholic Church leaders who were oftentimes historically the oppressors and political influencers rather than martyrs.

I get it. In order to justify your faith you have to ignore alot of actual history and the passion with which you will justify the Catholic Church in spite of its atrocities mirrors the passion with which the most die Hard leftists defend their own religion of leftism.

It would come across as more reasonable to recognize these things, simply state that you have faith anyway and move on instead of making your position seem downright silly by either denying that these problematic things happened or trying to excuse them.

In 2000 years, there have been some doozies, alright. Now, find someone on this thread or otherwise, who will defend those. The clergy =/= the faith, and as humans they are certainly subject to human fault. Welcome to 2024 - it's not 1024.

Don't you have other higher theological things to worry about like whether musical instruments or recorded music should be allowed in church?

You're new here, so here's a hint: There is a hard core bunch of Catholic bashers on F16 that you're just wasting your time with. As a Catholic convert (raised a Southern Baptist) I get a chuckle out of some of it knowing I've heard it before.

So getting past all the pro and anti-Catholic stuff, what does this excommunication say about American Catholics and their political inclinations?
You have prominent RCs as conservatives on the Supreme Court and Catholics have joined other Christian conservatives in common cause.
Will they follow through and support Trump or vote Democrat?

This excommunication will have no bearing on the Catholic voter blocks. He's most "paid attention to" by traditionally-minded Catholics (whether there's agreement or not) and these people are pretty much anti-demoncrat at this point. Further, it won't sway them one bit regarding Trump vs 3rd party vs just not voting.
