And just like that, the left has to pivot again. This is flawless execution by Trump.

DOGE - A Lawyer's Perspective on the
@elonmusk

@realDonaldTrump
Policy Centerpiece

I inherently do not trust the media so I decided to look into DOGE myself and see what is under the hood. Initially I was quite concerned about the legality of a "new agency" created by executive order but that - just like everything else - is a lie put out by the mainstream. The order is here and the thread is below:

To understand anything the government does it's usually best to start with the law or something else I might be able to sue over… in this case the executive order itself was the thing to see.

As you can see this document is barely 2 pages and certainly not written in legalise. While not a complicated read - the plan was brilliant. Trump did NOT actually create a new agency. Instead what he did was repurpose an existing agency - the USDS - into something more useful.

The USDS was an Obamacare office created to make government software better. They were essentially software development for the bureaucracy. Trump renamed the United States Digital Service (USDS) the United States DOGE Service which even kept the acronym the same. Not only did repurposing an appropriate existing department allow Trump to ensure there was funding for DOGE without having to fight with Congress - he also ensured its legality.

You see Trump has power to set priorities for Executive branch departments but there are limits. In the case of DOGE, Trump clearly had a team of lawyers looking at ways to accomplish this goal legally.

USDS was already there and funded for the specific purpose. 44 USCS Chapter 36 is the law that facilitates much of USDS. It is generally about developing tech for the government. This means that focusing on efficiency and evaluating the entire government through the lens of the IT that runs it is not really substantially altering the agency - just its focus.

At the same time Trump also wanted to bring in
@elonmusk
(and at the time
@VivekGRamaswamy
) and his team for an initial major audit/clean sweep. To do this Trump referenced another law 5 USC 3161. This law governs the creation of and staffing for what is known as a "temporary organization" in the government. This group will focus on pushing the DOGE agenda and will exist for 18 months (though their work will survive). By including this group as temporary, Trump dodged several potential lawsuits as he may not have been able to create his own new administrative entity on a permanent basis without Congressional approval.

Trump also ordered that DOGE teams be hired in every administrative branch agency. These teams are to include a team lead, a lawyer, an HR person, and an engineer. These teams work for USDS (DOGE) but work with and within various agencies. While all this is part of a "software modernization initiative," looking at the software and how things are managed is a great way to find out where there is waste - particularly when part of the mandate it to ensure efficiency.

The last part of the post is all important boilerplate. Trump orders all agencies to support the DOGE initiative, disclaims any other prior EOs that could interfere with this order, and makes a conflict of laws statement. This was further insulation to make this harder for political opponents to fight in court.

Last point. I don't like that this has to be done and think the executive branch has far more authority than they should. That said, this order was very well done and Trump and Musk have really done a good job strategically here. Here's to hoping these guys follow through on the MAGA/MAHA mandate that we the people have given and do everything possible to ensure the American people have the best future imaginable for our kids.

For those concerned that trump can't make the right hires…time to drop that narrative for good.
Why does it make it smile so much that Trump used an Obama weapon to destroy their own sandbox? This was incredibly gratifying to read, and what an absolute brilliant move.

will suddenly become "men" again to get a college scholarship!

The photo op at the end of the "no men in women's sports" signing was awesome. He invited all the athletes to surround him as he signed and all the young girls surrounded him making a great photo. Oh, and he did not sniff one head.

As a practicing Catholic I'm not thrilled about the IVF EO. Wish it was to make the adoption process more streamlined and affordable for married couples that wish to have a family.

But this was expected from Trump where he is more liberal on this topic.

Outside of hardcore Catholics and some other highly devout sects, I am not sure many people see supporting IVF is a liberal position.

I mean as a personal choice it is still perfectly acceptable to choose adoption over IVF if your religious beliefs are such that IVF is ungodly.

I just don't understand trying to outlaw IVF in the name of Catholicism.

I didn't say it had to be outlawed. I don't think it is something the federal government should be concerned about. I think it is a moral issue that each person has to consider. I dont think people have a right to conceive a child but rather it is a gift from God and part of His plan.

I don't want to derail this thread getting into a religious morality discussion. My views are this and I will leave it at that.

1) God intended for life to be created naturally from the love and man and woman. IVF skips that step

2) IFV is not just an option for married heterosexual couples but for single women, same-sex copules, surrogates, and can be used for research purposes. This is not how God intended for life to be created.

3) IVF usually involves transplanting multiple embryos which can all become viable. If the patient or doctor don't want multiple they can be selectively reduced (aborted).

4) many embryos are created at one time and then frozen. Many of which will never be used and at some point discarded or used for other purposes. If you believe life begins at conception (when the egg is fertilized) then you have human life that has been set aside with no respect for their rights.

To be clear, all Trump did is to mandate lower costs. Folks still have to pay some presumably as part of their insurance.

Our son was conceived by IVF. We went through multiple rounds, the first of which were paid by health insurance as I worked for a company in the UK. We paid cold hard cash for the successful round.

Hard to look at our 15yo and see anything other than the gift from God my wife and I and our family and friends paid for.

Two close friends ultimately adopted, an equally expensive exercise. They also have the gifts from Hod they parted for.

Trump is working to make both more affordable.

Saying children should only be conceived through vaginal intercourse is like saying people should refuse modern medicine because it's not how God intended.

I am most amazed people disregard that by Gods perfect design he has allowed medicine to treat the blind, have the crippled walk and have the otherwise childless have the miracle of children.

But I respect that you believe different.

My BIL loves him some Lincoln Project and is a sharp guy, but he keeps trying to convince everyone that they're crazy for voting for Trump.

He sent my brother and I this Tweet earlier and I've been buried and haven't had a chance to read anything about it.

I'm 100% sure this is a total perversion of the EO and I'm sure it's a completely insane framing of it, but can someone provide some context to this claim??

Healing the sick, injured, and lame isn't the same as creating life.

I see a greater need our federal government could be doing to help provide for the children waiting to be adopted then trying to lower the cost for electived medical procedures.
